It's All Coming to an End [FO v. Midas]

Midas had to detour his trip to the west frozen jungle due to the obviously Gamemaker created snowstorm. He tightened his coat and continued down into the tundra instead. Maybe if he came across a tribute, he could kill them and burn their coat to start a fire instead. He would need to eat soon and while he had plenty of Game, it would do him no good unless he properly prepared it. On his way into the tundra however, he encountered another on of those thieving tumnases and this time the damned thing took his recently acquired jug. Midas cursed and kicked snow up at the mutt as it ran off with his source of getting water.

He fumed as he looked back to the north at the raging snowstorm. The odds were just not in his favor in these Games. What was Julian thinking as he watched this? If he did make it out alive, would his boyfriend even be proud of him? He was turning out to be such a wimp in the Arena, and no one in the Capitol wants a wimpy victor. It was time to step up his Game. The emotional torment of killing his ally, Elise was being overcome by his need to survive now. He couldn’t let his grief overcome him, especially in this frozen environment, and no one wants a weepy victor either.

Though he was relatively warm in his jacket, Midas rubbed his hands against his arms for warmth just for something to do; he was getting fidgety all alone in this arena. His ears perked though as he suddenly realized he wasn’t alone after all. He could hear the hushed sound of footsteps in the snow and small voices up ahead—tributes! Midas prowled silently through the snow, anxious to get his hands on his new prey. Despite his large size, years of training had aided him in being able to move quickly and quietly.

As he got closer, he somewhat recognized the tributes from interviews and training days. It was the girl from District 4 and the boy from District 8, though he wasn’t one hundred percent sure on their names.

Wow… Midas thought as he remembered those days prior to his entrance in the arena; they seemed so long ago. Even though it was now only five days, it seemed far longer to this boy who was nearly crazed with torment over killing his own ally. He had a promise to keep though, and he repeated it to himself over and over through sleep and wake. Julian, I will come home to you.

The stealth booth he had studied at during training was aiding him now, as he approached his targets with ease. They were oblivious to his arrival until he roared with fury from behind them and had his dagger already upon Naida. A pang of guilt swept over him as Elise's mangled frame flashed before his mind's eye. Suddenly Naida was Elise and he was betraying his ally all over again. This brief moment of craze caused Midas to falter with his blade.
