Ugh, I've got to stop taking these shady ass gigs. 

These nails aren't gonna pay for themselves though, and ever since my sugar daddy cut me off I figured it was time to get back into the industry. My girl, Widow, told me about this photographer looking for models for this earring photoshoot so of course I got my earlobes bleached to prep for it. I'm like, such a professional, I had to wake up at the crack of dawn to make it to Isko's in time for him to do my hair. What a peach, I told him we'd have a girl's night out once I get paid and he said don't worry about it- can you believe it? 

Offering to pay already, ugh, love him. I keep telling Widow she needs to pull the plug and find a Haus already, but she's all about being independent and self made and blah, blah, blah. Look, my love language is gift giving and my presence is the present, I may be broke but I'm rich in virtue. With these guys around, I hardly have to pay a dime to look this good, and all I have to do to pay them back is walk a few runways, be a good clothes hanger and stay out of trouble. Done, done, and done! 

That's what I thought, at least, until I got ... here.

It's a three story building with broken windows and two front doors, I tried to go in through the right but it was locked and nobody answered, but the left one opened straight away. This ain't the first model shoot I've taken in an abandoned warehouse, but it's the first I've been in where I had to pretend not to notice the middle aged man snorting fenty behind the stair case. Weird, but I'm about that bag and I woke up at 4 a.m. for this, I might as well commit now. 

The photoshoot's taking place on the roof, and I make sure to open the door reaaaal slow so I can run away if anything's weird going on, but sure enough, there's my home girl! Oddly enough, it isn't creepy or anything, and Widow's talking to one of the crew mates when I run up and hug her from behind. "Guess who, bitch!" I'm shivering in my little cocktail dress, "I'm not late, huh?" Running up those stairs in these heels was a struggle enough. 

Are those jello shots? Say less!

modeling was not the first thing i thought of going into since i decided to make a living on my own. it was about the same time thread and come and died in the games. sometimes i visit the gabels when i get a chance. i dont try to bring up what they have lost, but i do try to give them some sort of comfort. a friendly face could do wonders, i know that much.

their mother is a completely different person then what they were before. losing stitch changed her a little bit, but losing thread? her life is not even remotely the same, and neither is mine. i dont have time to unpack that, and i dont know if i want too either to be quite honest. its scary, thinking that one day you are alive, and then the next, bam, mutt tendril right in your neck.

ill never forget watching thread struggling to breathe.

the mother has been nothing but sweet to me, introducing me to all of her connections while she still had them. thats how i got my start in the modeling industry in eight. funny enough, it wasnt even called that until recently. something about rebranding what each district was in charge of. the factories were slowly going away, in favor of smaller operations and designers getting all the love.

stitch would have thrived in that atmosphere.

i was on a job, at one of the aforementioned abandoned textile factories. i had told a couple friends about it, because if i was getting booked, i wanted to make sure they got booked as well. i would never leave anyone that i trusted behind after all. sure, i was left behind by stitch and thread, but a part of me knows that couldnt have been helped. it was not like i was going to volunteer with them. i knew that i would be dead meat in the arena, point blank, dead in the bloodbath. though i might have been a tragic loss? after all, my look apparent can evoke emotions like that? or whatever bullshit is fed into my ear for the moment.

they had me dressed up in one of four different outfits for the day, they let me pick two of the four i wanted to wear because i was the first girl to arrive. sure, i knew i was crazy for sacrificing sleep but this wasnt a chance i would get often. i could always sleep when i was dead.

i am talking to one of the crew members about what the shoot is going to entail, i am slightly entranced because i can tell that they have a lot of say in what is going to happen today. when people express their visions, i am able to buy into the idea more. the fantasy comes alive in my head after all.

then i feel a pair of hands wrap around me. i tense up for a second until i recognize the voice attached to the hands. "fashionably late are we venus?" i laugh before turning around and giving her a hug. its been a while since ive actually called someone a good friend, and even longer since i had been able to call someone a best friend.

venus was both of those.

sure, she might be a little crazy, but i can handle that. especially in the industry that we are in. "i think we are waiting on one more girl, so you are here just in time." i smirk before i look back to the crew member. "this is venus and shes quite the delight."

i step back to let her shine.
