Just hear those sleigh bells jingling!
Tributes will find themselves atop the large hill of the Cornuncopia, but upon looking down it seems much further down then it did during the Bloodbath. There is new sign that says ”No violence. Or else.” underlined in a dripping red liquid that looks eerily similar to blood. An invisible barrier splits the tributes into two halves on the mountain. The sound of bells echoes loudly throughout the arena. They can only mean one thing.
GO!
Welcome to the sled race, tributes! The top of this mountain will determine who are winners and who will be left to eat the others’ snowy dust. Before discussing the mechanics of the race there are a few ground rules that must be mentioned.
- Posting is mandatory!
- There will be no attacking. This thread is simply for fun and for character development
- Those who have tamed wolves will not have an advantage during the race. They will simply meet you at the bottom of the hill.
- Those who do not have a sled from the Opening Ceremonies gift will be required to join an ally’s sled. If they are a solo tribute or their ally does not have a sled one will be provided at the top of the mountain. However, the minimum amount of sleds will be given to an alliance. For example, if there are four people in alliance and none of them have a sled, only two sleds will be given to that alliance and they will be required to partner up. These sleds will break at the end of the race. Tributes who’s sleds were received from the Opening Ceremonies gift will remain intact.
- A maximum of two people per sled.
- The first three tributes to make it to the finish line will receive a prize. There are three neatly wrapped packages each with an unknown gift inside. The winner will choose first. Second place will pick from the remaining two presents and third will receive whichever one is not chosen. Note: If there are two tributes on a sled only one will be allowed to choose and keep an item. Both will not receive a prize. A dice will be rolled by the GMs to determine which tribute will receive the prize.
How do I win?
Great question! The first tribute to reach space 20 wins! Initiative will be treated as normal to determine posting order, but instead of attacking in each post a tribute will take two actions.
Action One: Movement
A tribute will roll a 1-25 sided die. Each number has a corresponding distance.
1-5: +1
6-10: +2
11-15: +3
16-20: +4
21-25: +5
The second action a tribute can take is to throw a snowball at an opponent. This snowball will not deal any damage, but it will knock the target back a few spaces according to the results of a 1-12 dice roll.
1-3: Miss
4-8: -1
9-12: -2
In order to successfully throw a snowball at your target they must be within five spaces of your own sled. A single sled (whether it be two tributes or one) can only be hit two times with a snowball during a round as per the two-attack rule. Hitting a tribute after they have already crossed the finish line will not send them backwards.
If there are two tributes on a single sled, the writers must determine which will be the driver and which will throw snowballs. You may not switch roles at any point in the thread. Also, dice will be altered for duo sledders as follows:
Movement roll:
1-5: +1
6-10: +2
11-15: +3
16-20: +4
Snowball roll:
1-4: Miss
5-8: -1
9-12: -2
Reminder! Posting in the sled race is mandatory and please try to do so in a timely manner since these are larger threads! And of course, if you have any questions about the mechanics do not hesitate to ask any of the GMs.
Good luck and remember:
You’re riding in a wonderland of snow!
