Floating in the river was an empty heart.
And it belonged to me.
Thirteen years is nothing to one hundred.
But it feels like forever.
I’ve lived in District 5 my whole life.
And I won’t be leaving.
I am Europa Kaitlyn Wie.
And I’m just me.
{NAME}
Europa-The name given by her parents, there is no substantial
reason for her first name other than the fact that they liked it.
Europa is the smallest of the largest moons of Jupiter, possibly an
indication that her parents did not know that she was not the
youngest of the family. When they had their fourth child, it was only
then that they realised that there might have been a slight problem
with the naming.
Kaitlyn-Her parents seemed to have a thing for middle names having
more meaning than first names as Europa’s middle name seems
more characteristic of what her parents wanted from her. As the
meaning of her middle name is “pure”, it could only be assumed that
they want their daughter to remain as “pure” as possible. Thankfully
for them, Europa is perhaps one of the “purest” girls in the whole
district in her age group.
Wie-The family name of which Europa acknowledges. There is no
pride but there is no resentment either.
{APPEARANCE}
As a young thirteen year old and one of the younger two in the
family of four children, Europa is seen as “cute” or “adorable”. Of
course, Io takes all the pinching of cheeks, but Europa has her
share of compliments. Because of genetics, she looks younger than
she actually is. She is often told that she looks like a younger
version of Sundra but with a rounder face; other times, she is told
she looks like Storm but with wider eyes.
Her facial structure is much like Sundra’s, but it is indeed rounder.
Her parents like to say that she also has a bit of Storm in her with
the chin and the filling up in the cheeks. She wishes she could be
more like Storm except a tad feminine, mainly because she idolizes
the boy. Other than that, she is starting to accept the fact that she
looks more like Sundra. She does argue that Sundra is the prettiest
one of them all, something her parents frequently disagree with but
only weakly.
Her hair is kept long, also similar to her sister. Sometimes, she
believes that the only reason why people think she looks so alike
her sister is because they have similar hair. They both have thin
strands, making their hair look lighter than most of the family’s dark
hair. She even has the same style with the straight but sometimes
lightly curled look. The only difference is that Europa’s hair is
originally straight but as she continues to hit puberty, her hair starts
to curl on its own terms.
Another reason she is compared to Sundra so much is due to her
light skin. While Storm and their parents have tan skin, Europa and
Sundra and Io have pale skin. During the summer, her skin tends to
darken a little more but nowhere close to Storm’s. Even if she tries
to tan, she tends to burn more easily. As a result, her childhood
years often was painful as she tried to be more like her older
brother and would run around in the sun despite protests from her
siblings and parents.
The small eyes that are characteristic of the family are true for
Europa though everyone convinces her that her eyes are not so
bad. In fact, when compared to Storm, her eyes are considered
rather large. She does have the largest eyes of the family, save
Io, but she believes that she will grow into them just like her older
sister did. They are a dark brown colour, similar to everyone in the
family and something Europa does not like when she sees the
various other colours that her classmates have. The eyebrows
above her eyes are not expertly tweezed but her hairs are thin so
they appear lighter than her natural hair color.
One physical aspect that bothers her is her nose. While her siblings
have very defined noses, her nose appears rather flat, the upper
part blending in with her face. Her nostrils look like little dot, even
when her face stretches out. The curved structure lacks the gentle
slope that both of her older siblings have, causing her some dismay.
She tries to convince her parents that it must be a defect since no
one else in the family has it, but her parents wave it off like it’s not a
big deal.
For a girl who likes to chat like her brother, she has a relatively small
mouth. The little pink circle that sits in the center of the slope where
her face ends in a soft chin widens when she smiles, stretching from
side to side. She likes doesn’t have a problem with her mouth but
after being told that she looks better with a smile, she tries to smile
as much as possible.
Her clothing is meant for comfort, something she adopted from her
older brother. After seeing her brother wear clothes that might not
be very tasteful, she decided that she needed to be more like him.
Of course, her initial attempts led her to some uncomfortable
material, but after Storm found out what she was trying to do, she
learned that the key point was being comfortable, not being
different. As a result, she dresses whatever is comfortable for the
situation, even if it might not be the right style.
{PERSONALITY}
As her main goal in life is to be just like her older brother,
Europa has the easy, out-going personality that Storm oozes. Of
course, Storm was never fully aware that Europa was just trying to
be him, but as that personality became Europa’s default, the two
became closer and closer. She likes to talk a lot, especially to her
siblings. The only times when she shies away from a conversation is
when she is told to not say anything, when the conversation
becomes awkward, or when the conversation is too serious for the
young teen.
There are times when she can be reserved as well. Those moments
are rare and usually involve embarrassment or orders, but they do
occur. As Europa struggles to understand what she really believes,
she sometimes keeps her trap shut so she doesn’t say the wrong
thing. There is also the fact that she has become much more
self-conscious as a teenager, not understanding what is considered
acceptable. She knows enough, though, to keep quiet when her
parents are around, not willing to be the one who causes them to
become angry.
Curiosity seems like an innate thing with the girl, something she has
always been since she was little. From the moment she began to
play with the wood cube, she had always used her eyes for
examination. Most of the time, they were bright as she searched
with a child’s brain for something amazing. As a little girl, her
curiosity led her to be intrigued by animals, always finding them to
be the world’s greatest puzzle. In the end though, she just hugs
them. She would constantly ask questions about animals when her
older siblings are around, believing that they knew everything there
was to know about animals.
Her relationship with her parents is close to non-existent as she
was pretty much raised by Sundra and Storm. She knows that they
are her parents, but she does not go to them if she has questions
or needs. Her dependency on her older siblings has grown to the
point that if at all possible, she will only communicate with them. She
thinks her parents love her, but as they do not show much affection
for her (most of it seems to be directed at Io), she is continuously
unsure. She does treasure the moments when her parents
bring her along so they can teach her something new.
There are times when Europa comes off a bit oblivious, especially
when it comes to her animals. She ignores the fact that they are
being bred for a reason, that they are not part of the family, and
takes care of them to the best of her knowledge…which includes
bringing them into the house if it’s cold outside or wrapping blankets
around them when they’re too big to get inside. In that same way,
she can be viewed as gullible with her older brother constantly
tricking her into doing tasks. However, as she has matured, she
becomes less oblivious to her surroundings.
During her stage of following Storm around, she also followed his
example of persuading Sundra to speak up as much as possible.
She never understood how her sister could be so quiet, especially
when everyone around her loved to talk, but she would be kind and
bouncy around Sundra, hoping that the positive energy would get
her to be more open. She loves Sundra with all her heart, but from
what Storm has told her, she too believes that Sundra needs to be
more outspoken.
{HISTORY}
Europa Kaitlyn Wie was born as a surprise to the family…relatively.
They had been hoping for a boy to help out on the family ranch, but
when she was born, they were surprised to see a girl. A mixture of
reactions came from the parents as they saw that their boy was not
a boy, one prominent one being disappointment, but rather than
give her away, they decided to keep her and love her as best they
could. After all, the next child could be a boy.
As a toddler, Europa believed that Sundra and Storm were her
parents as they were the ones who took care of her. They made
sure that she was fed, that she was well-behaved; she even called
Storm “daddy” once. And just like any child would do with normal
parents, Europa had favourites between the two of them. If Europa
wanted something to be done, she would plead with Sundra. But if
she wanted to have fun, she knew to look to Storm. In that way,
she began to develop the mentality that Storm was the fun sibling
and that was how they became close.
When Io was born, Europa looked into the crib and stared at the
little child. At that time, she was aware that Storm and Sundra were
not her parents, but she was still amazed that there was a little girl
younger than her. After several hours of just staring, Europa began
to hop around the crib, shouting with happiness. No one understood
why she seemed so giddy but as she was five, they decided not to
worry. It would just be something that she would eventually
outgrow.
Europa finally understood the concept that her older siblings were
siblings and not parents soon after Io was born. Her curious eyes
picked up on the fact that they looked too similar and even if they
did argue, there was some kind of connection. Also, she had seen
her parents enough to know what parents actually looked like. Once
she made that realization, she decided that she would help the two
with Io, even if she was a little young to be taking care of a baby.
But as Storm had also been five when told to care for a baby,
Europa decided that she needed to repay her two older siblings.
It was during the younger years that Europa was set on being just
like Storm. In her eyes, he was the outgoing one who wasn’t afraid
to speak up, something she would later adopt, much to her parents’
chagrin. She was still cautious like Sundra was, but she saw Storm
as the superior one and decided that he was the model older
sibling. Of course, her parents were very against that idea and told
her that she needed to be more like the quiet Sundra but her
stubborn attitude refused to conform to what her parents wanted.
The day she was introduced to animals was the happiest day of her
life (as she likes to say it). It was from that moment that she felt like
she could definitely be a part of the family, always hanging out on
the ranch. Her parents did not give her many responsibilities, but
she still tagged along so she could be with the horses. She has an
extreme fondness for cows, always worrying about them if they are
left outside. When she was 7, she led a cow into the house, arguing
with Storm that the cow was going to be cold if they left her outside.
Storm managed to soothe Europa by saying that the cow would be
just fine and that he would keep an eye out for her, but Europa was
still sad that she could not bring the cow inside.
Europa started school with knowledge on ranching, but once the
industry changed, she found herself struggling in school. She would
complain to her parents, but they told her that she needed to be a
good girl and do well in school. It was one of these moments that
she was glad that Sundra was around as Sundra could comfort her.
She never enjoyed admitting it, but she always saw Sundra as the
protective mother and she loved her unconditionally. When Europa
started going through puberty, it was Sundra she talked to about
the changes going on, certain that Storm could offer her no
information on her changing body without the conversation being
too awkward.

So it turns out the cow got stuck. Interesting convo from what
Shrimp had to say about it. I'll see if I can find a reference thread.
Muahaha, so I have found it! Post
