Name: Delilah Margaret Dewberry
Age: 17, born on April 19th
Gender: Female
District/Area: District 12
Appearance:
As a daughter of a sweets shop owner in the wealthier area of Twelve, Delilah is one of the few citizens of the district with a relatively healthy glow about her. As is typical for her location within the district, Delilah has long, but rather thin blonde hair - one could almost describe it as the reflection of sunlight on a field of daisies. Aside from that, there really is nothing remarkable about her. She is pale, partially from genetics, and partially because she spends long hours in the shop's kitchen, frosting cookies and cakes, or wrapping up rich chocolate in colorful wrappers and ribbons. Her lips are full, her cheeks are relatively plump, and her nose is a little too big. Everything about her is subtle, calm even compared to the fiery locks of the Capitol and the sooty, worn bodies of the Seam.
There is an undeniable, yet shy, kindness in her simple, sky blue eyes. It carries into her hands - frosting hands, as her father would say - long fingered, scarred from various baking fiascos. They carry a history of hard but careful work, as do her lean arms and strong knees. She's not overweight, per say, but she does have a few pounds to spare compared to most of her neighbors. It doesn't really bother her, how people perceive her - looks don't matter when there are things to do.
Personality: To her merchant neighbors, Delilah appears kind, yet softspoken. She doesn't tend to carry conversations, but rather prefers to listen to a friend ramble, even if it's about nothing. She can tolerate just about anyone's company, and usually thinks the best of people, but has problems opening up herself. Oftentimes, her relationships are one sided - always giving, never taking. If her feelings are ignored for too long (and this would have to be a very long time), she may explode - but only in the presence of her most trusted family members, and never in public.
Residents living in the Seam would hardly know her. She doesn't frequent the more crowded areas closer to the mines. In fact, she would very likely appear distant, snobby almost. Of course, if someone from the Seam were to get to know her, they would find she isn't the proud, bragging type - but her lack of words could easily come off as disinterest. She can easily keep secrets - after all, who would she tell them to? But this often leads to people taking advantage of non-reactionary nature. A shred of gossip here, a whispered deed there, Delilah doesn't tell simply because she doesn't want anyone to get hurt.
Most of the time, she will be in the shop, working (she's a bit of a perfectionist) - there isn't always time for her friends. It can appear harsh when she turns down a particularly over-eager friend for the twelfth time that week. The only people she really feels comfortable with are her siblings, an older brother and a twin sister. With them, she can laugh and dance, sing or tell stories, or just rant about whoever is taking advantage of her this week. They are the only people who truly knows who she is - everyone else just passes her off as just another merchant kid.
History: Note: Parts of Delilah's history involve other characters, and is still being finalized. I would like to roleplay her before then, so I will just outline the basics, if that's alright with you.
At the beginning of life, the order of events are rather typical. Delilah was no exception to this rule. She was born on April 19th, along with her twin sister in tow. Her mother died in childbirth, which really isn't surprising, given the lack of doctors among District 12 residents. It affected her father horribly, but he still managed to take care of them and the shop at the same time. Delilah grew up in what she considered a rather happy home.
Just like every other kid in District 12, she attended the public school. She wasn't the top student, but she never failed a class, either. There wasn't any reason to over-exert herself in her studies, she knew she would work in her parent's sweet shop the rest of her life. This never bothered her, she liked the work, despite it's long hours. Wrapping chocolate boxes never lost its romance, and frosting cookies guaranteed hours upon hours of fun with her siblings. She never gave much thought about what life would be like without the shop, nor did she ever worry about the Capitol.
Any reality different than hers seemed worlds upon worlds away. Her lack of knowledge about the Seam, the Capitol, and the Hunger Games made her seem somewhat ignorant to her more-grounded classmates, and her head could be described as 'up-in-the-clouds'. Although her classmates were reaped every year for The Hunger Games, she never gave it much thought. It just didn't seem important in the grand scheme of things. Of course, this outlook could always change. But growing up in the more protected areas of her district, Delilah never understood the bitter reality the town faced.
At a relatively young age, Delilah's father remarried - a women named Ceska, who was once married to her father's cousin. Delilah happily accepted the women to her family, although this may not have been the wisest of decisions. She was a bit too trusting to a women whose history she barely understood, but there wasn't much to it. Her father's name is Ceder, he is a nice man, and she trusts his judgement (thank you very much).
The family of five lives above their shop, in a home designed for merchants.
