Okay, so this Fan fic is a CatoXOther character fan fic because I <3 Cato and I am willing to admit it anyways, here's chapter one[/blockquote]
Chapter one
Iris' hands shake as she walks up onstage. She hadn't volunteered but she knew she could win, she knew she could bring honor to district two, at least, she thought she could, until she heard Cato volunteer. The two of them had been dating for some time now and she felt her eyes water when he came up onstage. Not him, why did he volunteer? she thought, looking into his blue eyes, eyes that could make her heart race. The stared at her with sorrow and guilt, as if apologizing for volunteering. She turned away from him and looked at the district, who cheered for them before they were escorted into the justice building.
She didn't expect any visitors, she'd never been popular in the district, so she was surprised when two figures were escorted in; Clove Newbury and Daniel Ghost. She looked at them, eyes wide.
"Why did you come?" She asked
"Wishing you well, you know, I was gonna volunteer but I know how much this means to you" Clove said, Daniel remained silent.
"I'll do my best"
"We know you will" Daniel said. Iris looked at him, her green eyes looking him over.
"I know you and Cato will do great" She smiled, Clove had always had a thing for her boyfriend but she knew it would never turn into anything, at least not anymore.
"Make the district proud" Clove hugged her and after a moment's hesitation, she returned the hug.
"Next year it will be your turn Clove"
"Mine too" Daniel surprised Iris. "I'm volunteering next year"
"well, hopefully then, I'll get to mentor the two of you, that will be fun"
"times up" The peace keeper said from the door. Clove released Iris and the two of them left without another word. Iris was alone. If I come home she knew that there was a 1 in 24 chance of that happening but she didn't want to think about that.
Her thoughts returned to Cato as she sat there and twiddled her thumbs. She knew he'd have visitors, everyone in the district knew Cato, he was loved as much as he was feared while Iris was practically invisible. To everyone but Cato that is She smiled, listening to the grandfather clock tick.
