Chloë had expected him to wave it off, say it was nothing or something mundane like that. Instead, he went on a tirade where he more or less confessed everything to her. It was daunting, it was scary, and she had no idea what to do or how to respond. Was she upset with him? Yeah, she was. She had trusted him, provided him a safe place and food, and he had been lying to her about who he was? Not okay in her books. However, it made sense as Chloë thought about it a little more. He had been hiding from someone, someone who had been tormenting him, and it made sense that he would protect himself. It just made her upset that he would think of her like that.
Jor—Dezzy pulled out the word “love” and while he defined it as a caring love, it still kept Chloë frozen in her seat as she tried to figure out what was going on. So the boy in front of her was named Dezzy and he was seventeen; she still didn’t recognize the face and she didn’t recognize the name either. So what was he trying to hide from? He mentioned something about how everybody hates him, but Chloë didn’t hate him and it didn’t seem like Akis did either. So what was all this bulls--- about?
She couldn’t hold off responding any longer and as she felt her body relax a little bit, she just stared at him. She still felt bad for him, but he had also lied to her and that made her trust him a little less. “Well,” she started, her mind trying to think of something calm to respond with, “I appreciate the fact that you’re telling me the truth. I’m honestly a little upset that you lied in the first place, but I’m glad that you confessed.” There would be no smiles as she contemplated on what was the right thing to do next. It would have been rude of her to kick him out, especially when she had offered to help him out, but she wasn’t sure she was feeling as generous anymore. “It’s, um, nice to meet you, Dezzy.” How weird it was to say his actual name when she had been calling him and thinking that he was “Jordan”. “I can’t…really help with what other people think of you, but uh, I don’t hate you?” It was true; she might have been upset, but it really was no reason to hate him. All it meant was that she really had to consider her next step. This is just too awkward for me.
