Dayta Foster

District Three. It is easier to assume that you will be spat on rather than praised here. Work does not get you anywhere. And when it does, it is taken away from you and you are thrown back into the pen of lions. Much like the Hunger Games. Perhaps this is why they were one of the first to rebel before the Dark Days. Polluted and busy. Crowded and noisy. District Three is no place for lovers of tranquility and solitude. People here usually enjoy the electricity and the life it gives to their creations. Wires, lines and equations all formulate into one unforgiving weapon; Knowledge.

Physical Appearance

Dayta is relatively tall at around 5"9. His build is rather slim and it is clear he is not a physical fighter. His hair is cut short as not to interfere with his work. His jawline is deep and manly as is his nose in that it is longer than the average man. His ears point out a little and one eye has a slight turn. But other than that, Dayta is everything you would expect a teenager reaching his prime to appear as. His usual garb consists of thick jumpers and, if it is cold, a jacket that is made out of a material resembling leather. He likes the colour blue and portrays that with grey and black and everything in between. His trousers are regularly slim fit and black or grey, or even a navy shade of blue. And his footwear tends to include black boots or trainers in grey.

Social Appearance

He can appear quite unassuming. But when you begin to talk to him, maybe even about his work, he will always have a cover of pride over it. He doesn't like the fact the Capitol gets to keep his work since he works hard to produce it. He sometimes coverts his work with an arrogance however. If somebody doesn't know how to do something he can sometimes seem quite pretentious, or even condescending. This is his natural lifestyle because he has been brought up to endure the hardships of learning. Electronics is difficult if you aren't afraid of failure and that is something he has kept to. He would always be happy to teach, but when it comes to being compared to others, he most definitely acts with a ruthless competitive attitude that is usually seen in careers.

His friendship group at school was typically the cooler kids. In District Three, or at least the school he was in, those who were the smartest were seen as the cooler ones. The ones to look up to. He was definitely one of the more promising pupils in that he was usually up there in the top graders. This made others look up to him but his little clique was rather seclusive and they kept to themselves. He does this to an extent but he knows the benefits of having friends; Guardians. People to protect you, or guard your back.

Personality

Witty. Definitely witty. Snide and sarcastic remarks seem to flow off of Dayta's tongue. He likes making these gestures simply because of his humor. It is something he wishes everyone had that way the world would be a much funnier place. His humor isn't necessarily dark, but most definitely dry and a little cold. Much like his surroundings actually. If you were to pit him and a kid from District Twelve together, he would likely make an enemy.

His arrogance is nothing near to what he likes to assume is common. He believes that he is quite modest until somebody thinks they can do better. In any such event he would likely try to up his ante and beat them at it, if he cared. This makes his quite formidable in that he will always go the extra mile or even delve into the extreme or unethical to achieve his goals. His upbringing has definitely had this affect on him as his parents want nothing less than Panem's next genius. He knows he will never get that far, but he does think he has a chance at reaching some kind of fame or glory.

Technological glory that is. Few can really kill with wires.

Biography

I was born in Three, raised in Three. Hell, I'll probably die in Three. To two keen parents who would want nothing more than for me to become Panem's next big thing. Little do they know they created quite a wit-filled chap who would want nothing more than not to become anything belonging to Panem. Don't get me wrong, District Three gets better conditions than say ... Twelve. But I just can't help but find myself surrounded by limitations. Lack of choice. Barriers to progression. I'd much rather be able to just go out there and make a spark, see what it becomes. But the Capitol is afraid that I make something that could be used against them, probably.

When I was younger, around five, I was taught how to wire my first light mechanism. The flickers still stay with me even now. It was great, I felt as alive as the bulb. If only I was electricity, then I could be free. But then again, now that I think; Electricity is just as enclosed as we are. Locked in place, trying to get out. Those that get out cause serious damage. It makes so much sense.

Around twelve years old. In fact, not around. It was when I was twelve. The first Reaping. It wasn't as scary as I thought it was going to be. They just said a name, it wasn't mine, we moved on. I didn't feel vulnerable because I was so young. But the next one, I realized that every year I would get closer and closer to the average age of reaping. Around the middle really, fifteen. It was then that I began to fear for it a little bit. I hid it well, I'd say. I don't usually shake when nervous, I just end up working faster. Harder. But when you're just looking at the bowls full of names, it is hard not to be scared. It is hard not to shiver and be fearful. I was. I could feel the nerves in everyone around me. Those days changed me, if I'm honest. Every year I'd feel like I'd earned a scar, or evaded receiving one.

Though as I got older my mind started to adjust to my surroundings. I was finally socially competent, physically competent and mentally ... mental. I was able to stitch wires through most things. Dismantling computers and aligning computer chips. Putting together TV screens and filtering through the many technological complaints the Capitolites had. Not directly, obviously. They were given on lists by Peacekeepers. That meant they could be as harsh as they wanted. My parents are still around. Lingering. There isn't much that the elderly can do in Three. Their hands become too frail and their bodies too slow. Most end up sitting at home helping their children learn so they can earn more money for them. It's sort of sick really.

Now, I would probably say I'm doing fine. It is my last chance to avoid being reaped, and my last time to stay within the family home. It is definitely my kind of year, I hope anyway. I would describe myself as smart, but unassuming. Not particularly skilled with weapons, but I've seen a lot of holograms showing the Games. Which we all must watch anyway. I don't look forward to the next reaping. But what will be, will be. Electronics don't alter fate unless programmed to do so.
