The Amazons // District Four

There is a secret off the coast of District Four.

Few know about it, and even fewer have seen it and lived to tell of its splendor. The secret, well-hidden, is an island with pristine waters and soaring cliffs. Those who get too close to shore without knowing the dangers of the tides are sure to perish, as the rocky waters surrounding the island are a maze in themselves. The currents are known for pulling unsuspecting fishermen to their deaths.

Though the island is difficult to reach, it is not empty. It is populated by a group of women who live secluded from the mainland of District Four. Though the Peacekeepers know their names, nobody knows enough about them to determine where they live. While some swear the women can occasionally be seen around the town square, seeking supplies, the only way to guarantee a sighting is to attend the Reaping.

They are warriors, you see, and so are their daughters. They do not shy away from the prospect of battle. They spend their time training, working, and living the bulk of their lives apart from the men in their District. They train to protect themselves against the folly of man and to protect their younger ranks from the threat of the Reaping.

They are practically born in battle, clad in armor and fiercely protective and loving of their own.

They are independent, proud, strong.

They call themselves the Amazons.

Welcome to the Amazons plot.

The Amazons originated from Greek mythology as a tribe of warrior women, and they also play a notable role in Wonder Woman.

Although I am still trying to navigate the mechanics of this plot, I know a few things:

• First, anyone can participate and have a warrior woman character (or several) of their own.
• Your character can either be an original one (preferably with a Greek name) or you can base your character off a story of an Amazon in Greek mythology. I’m open to anything, I just have to make sure that people’s ideas don’t clash too much (e.g. two people writing about the same Amazon from mythology.) This is why I’ll have a signup form (see below), and I will be PMing people if their ideas/characters are accepted. If you have a pre-existing character that you want to add to the plot – say, if they find the Amazons somehow – this is also acceptable.
• I want to encourage diversity in your face claims and characters. Although all characters in this plot won't be men, I strongly encourage you to create characters of varying age, race, gender expression, ability, sexual orientation, and so forth.
• These Amazons do have children with men from District Four, often to increase their ranks. They do have families among themselves, and they are a tight-knit community.
• The Amazon women live mostly autonomously from the rest of the District, finding their own food, creating most of their own supplies from the resources on their island, and taking part in various jobs.

She makes no excuses or apologies for wearing full makeup and platform combat boots to the Training Center, nine months pregnant. She gives no explanation for wearing a crop top and booty shorts three weeks after giving birth, stretch marks on thighs and belly proudly displayed. Make no mistake - Magnesia has opinions on the best weapon, the right time to wean a child, the quickest way to execute a man. She just doesn't have any judgment about her perfect self.

- hasn't fought for years, focuses more on the inner workings of the island, how to help it run on a day-to-day basis

Character Age: 14/15 (not sure yet, leaning towards 15)
Character Type (original, based on Greek mythology, or pre-existing character): Greek-mythology. Not much is said about Agave from what I can find, but she was most likely a 'high born' girl that was deemed unnecessary by her parents and left on a hillside to die or be found, with her clan markings obscured so the family couldn't be linked to infanticide. She was then found by the Amazons.
Character Idea:

- maybe not abandoned at birth, but early on? living in a really run down orphanage or something? I'm not sure yet.
- kinda quiet and keeps to herself a little more
- does a lot of sewing and knitting and weaving, so she makes a lot of clothes, blankets, nets, etc. for the island
- likes taking care of babies
- can often be found doing yoga on the beach, or dancing in the water, or climbing
- generally thought of as a little odd or flighty, but really endearing
- maybe she's not fab at fighting, but she's pretty nimble and uses that to her advantage, and is a little better with ranged things than close quarters
- (i'm toying with another idea but idk yet so we'll talk about that later)

Character Idea: Ok so I was thinking it might be fun to add some classic element characters into this plot. And not just your typical "fire - my character burns shit" "ice - icy cold personality YOLO" "earth - i luv plants y'all" "water - i swim for lyfe" stuff, but like, characters that embody elements in some unique way, and different elements. I.e. darkness, light, electricity, love, rocks/crystals, etc. I figured this might fit in here as it that is pretty amazonian in my humble opinion.

Obvs. I would make one or two of them which is why I'm suggesting this.

initial character idea - darkness/light hybrid - this character comes from one evil and one good parent, and therefore feels conflicting feelings towards whether she will be cruel or kind. As a result, she is often both cruel and kind, dishing out compliments in ways that end up being back-handed. She is disloyal as she is inconsistent, but she often plays the naivety card and can be very convincing. She's prone to emotional overload, going into violent fits of rage at times (think kylo ren from star wars rage), but can also be very loving when she feels drawn to it. Most of her characterization would be the fight between these two sides, with one side wanting to take care of people, and the other side wanting to destroy people. As a result, she spends time both training as a career and learning how to heal. People never know which side of her they're going to get.

Other people could add some element characters to? If you don't like the idea, just let me know, I thought it might be cool. ^^
