There was an awful sort of monotony to Sylvania's life. Every morning it was the same. Get up, eat, go out. And when she was out, she walked. Just walked until she got hungry, and then she got something to eat. After finding a bench to sit on, she'd share he lunch with the pigeons. Then she'd walk until dinner, when she'd go home, eat, and sleep. And then it began all over again. The was some variation between the days. Sometimes she forgot who she was and had to ask people on the street. Or she got lost and couldn't remember where her home was. But none of that was very exciting.

This morning was just like all the others. After Sylvania woke, she made her bed and got dressed. after checking twice to make sure he clothes matched (she forget what matching was sometimes) she headed downstairs. And, as always, she tugged on the metal handle of the cabinet in the hallway. The medicine cabinet, where her parents kept all their medical supplies. Sometimes, before leaving for work, they'd unlock it and gather some supplies, but without fail, they locked it again before leaving. Locked, so Sylvania wouldn't get into the morphling.

She hadn't had morphling for a long time, but she still craved it. The first weeks without it had been the hardest. Her body and craved it, and so her mind. Her body craved it no longer, but Sylvania herself still ached for it. Even though she'd resolved to live a life where morphling couldn't touch her, she couldn't help but want it sometimes. She'd told herself she would stop wanting it, but telling yourself something isn't nearly as easy as actually doing it. While Sylvania wanted a life where she wasn't always thinking about morphling, she felt it wasn't possible. Maybe, if she could have morphling just one last time, she'd be okay.

Tugging at the handle, Sylvania found the cabinet locked as usual. She headed into the kitchen to find some breakfast. Her mother was there, hurriedly pulling her hair back into a tight bun. She noticed her daughter and explained her hurry. "I'm running late, sweetie. You'll have to make your own breakfast. There's cereal somewhere, I think." She started for the door, then turned around. "Don't use the stove." She stopped to kiss Sylvania's forehead, then bustled out to the hall to grab things for her medical kit. Sylvania heard the metal doors clanging as she poured cereal into a bowl. It didn't occur to her until after she'd added milk to it that she hadn't heard the key turning in the lock.

Heart thudding, Sylvania walked slowly back into the hall. Hesitantly, she curled her fingers around the cruel metal handle. Do I want to know? she asked herself. Yes, I do. And with that, she tugged the door open. Her mother had been in such a hurry, she'd forgotten to lock the door. Sylvania looked around, just to make sure no one was around. But who would be? Her parents had both already left for work. Sticking her head back into the cabinet, she started her search for the morphling. It wasn't hard; it was exactly where it had always been, wedged between heart pills and prenatal vitamins.

With shaking fingers, she reached out to grab a needle. She took a moment to fill it with morphling before slamming the door shut and running up to her room with it. Even though the house was empty, she still wanted to be in her room, as she always had before. Even as she closed the door behind her, she couldn't believe this was happening. After so long, she was being reunited with her lovely morphling. Take away the pain, she begged.

Minuted later, she headed back downstairs to eat her now-soggy cereal. She didn't feel the effects yet, but that was normal. She was happy anyways, because she'd done it. She'd gotten her morphling. After breakfast, she considered staying in the house instead of going out. But no, it was too nice a day. She didn't want to waste morphling-induced happiness in this house. After grabbing her bag, she headed out the door, laughing as she locked it behind her.

The world seemed a little brighter now. Sylvania laughed out loud at the blueness of the sky, at the feel of wind on her cheeks. She skipped down the street, unusually happy to be alive. Stopping in the middle of the street, she spun around, her right arm held out to the side. her left arm hadn't worked since an accident four years ago. An accident, she remembered now, that had started her use of the wonderful drug. When she stopped spinning, she stood staring up at he sky, watching the clouds. If people ran into her, she didn't notice. She was free now. Her craving for morphling didn't hold her back. No one could touch her or hurt her. Skipping down the street, Sylvania found she couldn't stop smiling no matter how hard she tried.

In the mind of any teenage boy, they'd like to wake up when they want to. In the mind of another teenage boy, they wouldn't mind having a parent wake them up. It all really depended on how they act and who they hand out with and when they fall asleep and if they like their parents or no and a whole lot of other factors. If you took how Nyklus Moalkis'; a seventeen year old boy living in District Two; factors lined up, you could tell he liked to wake up when he woke up. Having a parent wake him up was a-noy-ing. That right there is how could could tell he was pissed off this morning. He didn't even bother yelling at his mom at this morning - it would make things worse, he knew it. He mumbled something about life not being fair (and he knew his mom would say something about life not being fair); but his mom didn't reply back to him - which was strange.

He got out of bed, changed clothes, but on some deodorant, brushed his teeth and hair, and went to his kitchen - all taking under ten minutes. This was turning out to be a strange day. As he walked down his stairs, he smelt something... delicious. Bacon. Bacon - if you didn't know - was made from pigs and was Nyklus Moalkis' favorite food. Seriously, it could be the only food he ever ate (it kind of is) and he wouldn't mind. He looked at his dad and his dad knew what he meant - he wanted to know if he could eat it. His dad nodded his head and Nyklus snatched it in a jiffy. He chuckled a bit as he scarfed it down. It was funny how he could relate to his dad. Sure, they were related, but he hid so much from him, and they were so different.

Before leaving his house, Nyklus remembered that he needed something. He climbed up his stairs to his room. The piece of paper was hidden under his bookshelf. He lifted it up to find it. Nyklus' hand felt a thin, overused piece of paper. He pulled it out, and there was (and always was) a face one there. It was a stalker picture of Topaz Ross. See, Nyklus was always obsessed with Victors. When I say obsessed I don't mean he had like, three posters in his room of her. I mean that Nyklus had pictures of them hidden in his room, he knew their relatives (and how Topaz volunteered to take his sister's spot). He knew everything there was to know about them; favorite colors to worst fears.

As his parents went to work, Nyklus went to the basement. His dad kept beer in the basement. Truthfully, Nyklus never drank beer everyday. Actually, Nyklus was usually out the door before his parents were dressed for work. Today was different. He got held up finding his 'lucky paper'. He walked down the basement steps to see a six-pack of beer on the floor in front of him. Nyklus took a bottle out and opened it. Then, he took a sip. The bitterness that filled his mouth tasted... bitter. Nyklus was used to the taste - this wasn't his first time drinking beer. He chugged that bottle down quickly.

And then down went another bottle.
He drank up hard.

Eventually - after finishing three bottles and hiding the rest for later - he went back upstairs, and out the door. He knew he'd have to act normal, but in a few moments, he probably wouldn't even know what's going on. He walked down the street only to bump into some blond chick. "Hey, ya' might wanna' watch where ya' goin' girrllll. Yuuuh cood getttt hit byy a car." Honestly, Nyklus could have gotten hit by a car. The only problem?

He was too drunk to tell.
