Mountains of Metal {Nofo} -BLITZ-

Junk yards. The perfect place to find things that no one wants but could still be so useful. From a distance, the junk yard of District three looked like metal mountains rising up out of the fog from the factories that surrounded them- the amber sunlight glinting off the peaks. I often took trips to the junk yards to find objects that- while others found useless- I found extremely interesting. Mainly, I collected things like Radios and Memory drives from computers to take apart and have a look at. However, today I was in search for good quality copper wires to fix my fathers alarm clock. The gates of the particular junk yard were rusted with age- and creaked as my small hand pushed them open. Walking in, I craned my neck to peer up at one of the tall mounds that sat in front of me. the sight of the glittering metallic prizes piled on top of each other made my lips twitch in pure excitement. Slowly I drew my eyes away from the pile and looked round, wondering if anyone else was there.

Kegan Thornell

Tanned fingers scraped the dirt from a hunk of metal. Kegan laughed quietly as the dirt revealed metal pliable enough for one of his inventions if he liked. He smiled at nothing next to him and whispered at the air. “Isn’t it wonderful, ‘Nory?” He smiled awkwardly like a five year old smiled up at the clear sky above him. “Love said to tell you hi.” He ran his fingers over his jaw and looked back down at the pile with a look of determination. Just then he noticed a young girl nearby. “What should we make today, I wonder.”

As I looked around, something caught my eye. A man, around the age of 17 maybe 18, stood around 20 feet away sitting in the Junk Pile. He had bronze oily skin and long wavy brown hair.

"what should we make today, I wonder" the man spoke

Frowning confused, unsure of if he was directing that at me or himself, I walked closer slowly- afraid of the strange man in the junk pile. I always got told not to talk to strangers but I never did what I was told.

So, quite bravely, I stopped in front of him and said "where you just talking to yourself?"

Kegan Thornell

Kegan smiled absently as he heard a voice directed to him. “No, I’m talking to her.” He smiled at the space next to him. Aenor was his companion of choice the past few months. “She doesn’t say much, but she helps me with everything.” He looked up with vacant eyes. “Do you want me to make you something? I like the pretty things metal can become.” He especially liked the shine of the sunlight on the metal and the way it stung his eyes. He went back to scrambling for chunks of metal hidden in the pile right beneath him.

“No, I’m talking to her.” the boy smiled absently to the empty space beside him.

Weirdo. I thought to myself as he continued to speak to me.

“She doesn’t say much, but she helps me with everything.”

My mum had talked about people like this man. She said that they weren't crazy or weird- they were just very very sick and they couldn't be cured by Doctors. Mum said I shouldn't be rude to them, because they were people too.

“Do you want me to make you something? I like the pretty things metal can become.” he finished
"Make..something?" I asked curiously.

I wondered what the man could make out of the metal from the junk pile.
