[Day 3] Beach Volleyball: Round 2

BEACH VOLLEYBALL: ROUND 2

Welcome to the Beach Volleyball event of the second Panem Olympic Games! The court is located on the beach in District Four, with stands for spectators traveling from Districts One, Two, Four, and the Capitol to watch the competitors. Television cameras are set up around as well, to broadcast the event to anyone staying home as well as to the other districts who aren't as lucky and competent as you all! Please be sure you stretch and warm up with your coaches before you're called to the court, and remember, make your district proud!

Beach volleyball is a tournament, following a bracket. Each player has been assigned a team and a round one match. In THIS THREAD, everyone involved in this tournament should post the following dice code THREE TIMES after roleplaying their character's preparation and start of the match: [*roll range=1-7] without the asterisk. Once everyone involved in your match has done so (i.e., all four players) your points and your teammate's points will be added up for each set, and the team with the highest score wins that set. That score will be the number of points MORE you scored than your opponent in that set. Whoever wins the majority of the three sets wins the match Please remember, beach volleyball goes to 21 points. (We're pretending that the final set goes to 21 as well, and not 15)

Here's an example:

Teams: Doe/Sue vs. Stu/Smith

Set 1:
Doe rolls a 4
Sue rolls a 6
Stu rolls a 7
Smith rolls a 1

The team of Doe/Sue has a higher added score, so they win the set by their total, 10 points, meaning the score was 21-11. This process will repeat for the following two sets. If Doe/Sue win another set, then they have won the majority and the match. However, if Stu/Smith win the next two, they win the match.

All beach volleyball players should post their rolls in this thread; there will not be separate threads for each match. After it is determined who wins the match, then feel free to edit your post roleplaying out the match and winning/losing if you wish.

The ball was on our side for round one. We finished with an easy win, but that didn't mean our next game was going to be easy, it only meant that all the practice, all the time we spent training for this event was for something. I step out onto the court, a smile plastered to my face, my arms swinging around loosely in front of me as I stretched them, preparing them for the game ahead.

I turn my head slightly to catch the eye of my team mate, my smile turning from satisfied to encouraging as I give her a small nod and thumbs up. I was ready. I was ready to give it my all, to do my best with my friend by my side.

Victory was sweet upon her tongue. The third night had passed and she was refreshed, ready to go again. Having texted Rin, telling him that she was going into the Semi-Finals with Makoto, she could only hope that she'd see his face in the crowds. At least she could depend on Nagisa cheering in the crowds, as obnoxious as his constant mispronunciation of her name was. She'd slept like a queen and eaten like a king, the excitement of what the day had to offer consuming her like the ocean waves. The air smelt distinctly salty, roasting fish wafting in on the breeze. Haruka would have loved to be here, she thought, hoping that maybe next time he'd be able to make it into the Olympics like they had. Was he sad? She sincerely hoped not, Haru was such a calm person, imagining him going through any kind of strife made her frown. 

Today, her and Makoto were against winners. Perhaps they wouldn't smash the competition like the day prior, but there was no doubt in her mind they'd win. 

She had faith in herself and her teammate, she was so, so happy too.

District 2 didn't know what was coming for them.

But then, of course, neither did he. And while they'd managed to completely kick the asses of their former opponent's (It wasn't even a challenge, as if their opponents hadn't even been playing.), he never knew what might come after the ball met his palm and soared (hopefully) over the net. But nevertheless, the cocky smile that was the norm of his face was still plastered on it, and as he wiped the sweat off of his forehead with one hand he took an extra measure to spin the volleyball on the point of his finger, all the while staring down his, their opponents with a determined eye and a raised eyebrow.

He shrugged, letting the ball drop to his feet before balancing it on the too of his foot and popping it back up to himself. "Hmph, doesn't look like too much of a challenge."

He flashes a single cocky grin at Katrina, tossing the ball up in the air as he does so. "Fuck 'em up."

They had made it through the last round, scoring enough points to win the matches handily. She had thanked her partner - Magic or whatever, she still hadn't learned his name - and had smiled genuinely for the first time in a long time. She was back in her place, her home, and once again she didn't want to leave. She waited outside of the changing room for Mr. Magic and gave him a nod as he spoke to her. They were still trying to find a way to work around sharing a changing room, and so far it had been somewhat awkward but uneventful. She planned to keep it that way. They entered the court and got ready to play. Eyeing the ball, she waited for the call for service and threw herself wholeheartedly into the play.

This was where she belonged.

I step out of the dressing room to find my partner waiting. Its still very much awkward at least for me to share a room together, but it didn't appear to wreck any chemistry we had last round. I'm pleasantly surprise that we're here in round two ready to compete for a chance at the gold medal. I never would have expected this coming into the event. I give a warm smile to my partner before heading to the court. My partnership with Levana likely won't continue once beach volleyball is over. She's not as bad like I thought she'd be. Maybe competing for the gold medal match should we get there change both of our minds on continued friendship if that's what we have. "We're going to win Levana."

Bo was a good teammate. They had worked well together to take down their first set of opponents; though Katrina wondered if part of their success was owed to a district one and a district two career being unable to work together. Whatever the case, they had moved onto the next round and were up against a team from two. Last names Blackmore and Pine. She paced back and forth on the sand as she waited for the signal to begin, not sure what to do with herself. Bo was more into showmanship than she was, but she had to admit that spinning the ball on his finger was a nice touch. When the ball went up into the air with an expletive, Katrina jumped."Hell yeah I will!" she hooted to Bo as she smashed the ball over the net.

It was by the grace of Ripred that Blackmore and I had landed in the second round of beach volleyball. We managed to scrape by winning and then tied in the final match. Now we faced greater competitors, once again from the district of fishermen. It was becoming perfectly clear that we were the underdogs, being the only team from 2 to make it past the first round. But I was used to being an underdog, and I wanted to win at least one medal in any event. If we could just win this one round we would be in position to clinch a silver medal, potentially gold.

I stand on the damp sand, letting it cram itself into every nook and cranny on my feet, and hold the leathery ball. It was becoming more and more natural, as I had practiced the basic movements of volleyball. It was time to play, and I wanted nothing more then to win.
