GMs Fave Line from the 73rd Reaping Acceptances

Hello hello!
As I had promised, I will be taking over the tradition from Kay this time around.
In the post below this one I'll be serving you all the lines from each acceptance post that really stuck to me.

Will you let the words that batter your teeth as they force themselves out of your mouth escape? Will you take death by the hand and walk with it like a reunited lover towards the end?

The dark eyes, the pink lips, the hair, the hips—damn, maybe I'm still a little drunk. I point to her as discreetly as I can. (You.) Point to myself. (Me.) Point to my watch. (Tonight.)

And just as I'm making a nice sexual gesture complete with thrusting hips and scrunched eyes I hear my name echo through the square. ("Justice Fray!") A few people turn to look at me mid thrust, some with smirks and others with looks of disgust.

"I said, fucking STOP!" Her fingers dig into the hair of his skull, tightening at the cry of pain that garbles up from his throat. He's grappling at her wrist, trying to pry them from his hair. She doesn't let go. Instead, she digs her free thumb into his eye, throwing his body to the side of her before rolling on top of him.

Three weeks and they'd never tried this position.

Their names had not been read by the little strip of paper; their names had not been the ones to blow in the wind. They could rest easy knowing they would not be snuffed out. And yet here he was, thinking of how life was, how it was meant to be lived.

“I volunteer.” He said to himself, at first. Was he loud enough? “I volunteer.”

There was no such thing as an impossibility, like Schrödinger’s cat, a state of life or death was not impossible until someone opened the box to find the cat dead or alive. Hypatia had hoped for an impossibility but the laws of science had withheld that and someone had opened her box.

"What?!" A good question. What were all of you doing, standing around as children were sent to death? What kept anyone from acting? What kept you from acting? In that moment, nothing.

"I'll go."

A frown fades the last echoes of the tantrum from her face as she stoops to kiss the flower's feet. "I didn't mean it," Scout murmurs. (​Satanic human bitch must die!) "I don't mean any of it..."

She runs away from the slaughter of innocence because this is what she wants to do. Today her name is too much, Leon's crown too heavy, Nat's death too real. Any other day ​Krigel​ is glitter upon her skin, flecks of gold scattered amongst her freckles.

"What's your name?" they'll ask him onstage.

Jolly Roger. Jolly Roger is the biggest lie he's ever been asked to tell. The complicit silence that says everything's fine, that says nothing's wrong instead of we're just refusing to fix it.

He doesn't want to lie today.

I fall to my knees in front of my bed. Praying to a god I'm not sure exists. Praying to a god who has never done anything for me. Praying that somehow I'll make it through. Somehow to muster the strength to make it through the day. Twice in a row we have been reaped. Two of my sisters gone just like that. I pray again that somehow we all survive today, that somehow we get lucky.

But luck and Eckhart are not two words that you use together.

If drug addicts didn't exist I'd be selling pills to fucking rats but I just don't want to be them, I don't know, my head's pounding. Cute. I grab clothes, at this point in the morning they all look the same. Something blurred in early a.m. dew in my corneas, I never said I was a fashion artist. Shiit, that's something I could get behind.

Maybe I could actually be something.
