One of the many values that my father drilled into to me was to always thank Ripred before taking a meal. And now here I sit, half way through a cut of meat without even sketching a word for the invisible and silent god. I always thought of my father as a leader, not a follower. His worship of Ripred is one of the many things that have always kept me wondering, why? A man ready to maim a soul yet he asks the god up there for peace in world. He told me Ripred always answers him and whenever I tell him the god hasn’t returned a single sign to me after a pray, he just says to listen harder.

If there is a god, they are definitely not listening to me.

I’ve met many followers of Ripred in Eight and I have met many followers of other gods. I’ve read books on creation and books on revolution, both giving me completely different answers. No wonder I have yet to find my destiny, the world is dishing out disordered information.

Looking up from my plate, I scan the room, taking in the faces that are likely to be the last I ever see. A male catches my eye immediately, he’s praying. I have not seen any other tribute refer to god or ripred, unless using his name when cussing. It’s odd how he believes Ripred still has his back, yet now he’s in this predicament. That guy must know something that I don’t.

Once I finish my plate of food, I am escorted back into the training centre for another round of trying to figure out what to do with myself. Every station is already occupied by at least one other tribute, the beastly careers being predictable and opting for the hostile stations.

The male I saw praying in the dinner hall is lodging at the knives…this gives me a chance to ask him questions. ”So uhmm,” I pick up one of the knives, my reflection in the blade shining right back at me as I inspect it. ”I saw you praying at the table earlier. Do you really believe Ripred still as your back? Even in here?”
