Arachnobat - (Throughout) - Despite the misleading name, Arachnobats contain no genetic material that is exclusive to bats; its creators had intended to call it a trapeze spider, which is much less misleading — if less creative — than the portmanteau of 'arachnid' and 'acrobat.' The trapeze spider was not originally designed for use in the Hunger Games, but instead for a less brutal form of entertainment: the circus. Arachnobats were designed to be much larger than your average house spider. They are similar in size to a golden retriever and just as trainable — provided, of course, that they were brought up around humans; those born in the wild are no more friendly than a feral dog or a wolf. Their creators had expected their striking patterns and wide color palette to endear them to Capitol audiences; however, not even their splendid appearance was enough to overcome the arachnid's reputation with mainstream crowds, and thus, the creature was relegated to the Hunger Games.

Arbor - (Rose Garden, Stilted Mansion) - A joke taken one step too far, this topiary-esque creature was created by a muttations expert much too fond of puns and nurturing a rather pathetic crush on a certain gamemaker. Most commonly found frolicking through the rose garden or patrolling the hallways of the mansion, this tiger is several times the size of his famous namesake. Utilizing the same bizarre seahorse DNA as the Needlenose Leafy Cobragon this massive, leafy feline gives the appearance of a shrubbery come to life. Although his thorny teeth and claws are no joke, he has a peculiar fondness for belly rubs if anyone is brave enough to dare.

Armordillos - (Stilted Mansion) - The natural armor of these armadillo-type mutts has been replaced not just by actual metal plating, but by digital screens. The imagery painted across their shells is not bound to them, rather they seem to move through it. They enjoy rolling up and down the mansion's grand staircases like children playing on slides. Perfectly sized to effortlessly move across the edges of the steps as if they were smooth ground, they don't like anyone who tries to stand between them and playtime. Similar to the Cornucopia, anyone with a high enough vantage point will be able to see the spheres of their backs transformed into an optical illusion as they roll. Although spread apart, they are connected by what is, more than what isn't. The true conundrum is whether seeking the answer to this puzzle will give you the secret to your safety or if it's design purely to distract you from it as the Armordillos suddenly uncurl and bear their teeth.

Bread & Butterflies - (Throughout) - Despite all of the Capitol's incredible technology, there are people who long for simpler times. Most of these people don't know anything about what simpler times were actually like. Case and point: the conception of the bread and butterfly. The idea was certainly there. After all, what could be simpler than bread and butter? How lovely a thought to sit in a meadow with a picnic, butterflies all around, snacking on bread and butter. Hmmm... bread and butter... butterflies... hmmm... bread and butterflies. It was certainly an idea, but somewhere along the way simplicity was lost and a butterfly with edible wings of deliciously buttered bread was created. All that fluttering even keeps it warm, as if it were freshly baked. Mmmm.

Clingray - (Cornucopia, Paper Plains, Rose Garden, Salt Flats) - Created to be exotic pets for Capitol residents, the Clingray is basically a miniature stingray, with a multitude of bright and exotic colors thrown in when it was made by the Capitol. However, almost immediately problems were found when the miniature creatures proved to breed a lot faster than expected. Initially ignoring the issue, the Capitol was forced to recall the creatures when reports of the mini stingrays attaching themselves to their owners and repeatedly stinging them came in in high numbers. With nothing to do with the animals, Capitol scientists instead chose to release them into the Arenas along with the tributes. Clingrays do not stay in packs or nests, but they do stay near the shore of the beach.

Coral Moose - (Paper Plains) - This massive moose has antlers made of coral that form a small reef. The older it is, the larger its antlers are and, in rare cases, the antlers have been known to outgrow the moose itself. Flying fish often make their homes in the coral, newborns nervously orbiting the moose's head or hiding in the anemones, not yet ready to leave the nest for the sky. Occasionally tide pools will form and an aquatic bird who got too enthusiastic about playing in the heavy rain will find itself stranded until the great moose lowers its head and a waterfall pours down.

Crayon Monstrosity - (Throughout) - Jarringly brought into existence with a malformed central nervous system, twisted limbs, and minimal consciousness, this poor creature knows only pain. It is capable of screaming and wailing in misery, and will immediately bite and claw at the first thing it perceives with its too-sharp fingers and too-big teeth.

Cuckloock - (Salt Flats) - These small aquatic birds swim in schools through shallow water, gliding so stealthily that the only time you see a ripple in their wake is after their head pops out of the water to snap at unsuspecting prey — every hour, on the hour. Their hunting cry sounds hilariously like a very loud clock chime... with just a hint of squawking. The sound is enough to spook anyone unprepared for it, but that sudden jolt of shock might just be enough to move you out of the way of a razor sharp beak. Maybe it's their lack of sleep due to constant hunger, but their waterlogged feathers look a little more frazzled than all of the other aquatic birds. At the very least, that's certainly the reason they're so irritable.

Diamondfowl - (Salt Flats) - It was, by far, the most expensive luxury Capitol pet ever invented. Not settling for the beauty of a normal peacock, Capitol scientists and designers took it one step further by weaving the feathers of the Pavo with traces of diamond. The result was a truly magnificent creature, with an equally as magnificent price tag. However, when it was released to the market, it bombed, the price tag that came along with it pushing away even the most obsessed Capitolite. So it was recalled, killed off except for a select few. That is, until the 68th Games rolled around. Due to a rather eccentric and zany scientist, the Pavo has made it's (quite literally) triumphant return, except this time it's not just a pretty pet. To increase it's lethality, the feather's in it's tail have been sharpened to the point of darts, which can be launched by the mutt at any threat by whipping it's tail, all while looking beautiful.

Eraserhead - (Stilted Mansion, Paper Plains) - Good help is so hard to find. No one knows this better than the most particular of the Capitol elite, dissatisfied with avoxes and seeking an alternative to serve their housekeeping needs. Introducing: The Magic Eraserhead™! Mixing pygmy gecko and teacup pomeranian DNA has produced an ultra quiet home helper with an incredibly fluffy, feather duster-like coat and patented scrubbing pad paws. So light footed that it can walk on water, no longer must you endure the nuisance of careless footsteps or the security risk of literacy! Specially engineered with antibacterial saliva and OCD, this mutt won't stop until everything in sight is spick and span!

Glass Belly Noot Noot - (Throughout) - Billed as the world's most indestructible sentient safe, the Glass Belly Noot Noot can withstand temperatures well over the boiling point of water and down to a single degree above absolute zero, and can survive in pressures 1,200 times the normal atmospheric pressure and in the vacuum of space. These transparent creatures are about the size of a large dog when fully grown, and crawl around in search of belongings to swallow whole. The current contents of the Noot Noot's stomach are fully visible and proudly displayed to those around them — but are entirely unretrievable unless the indestructible eight-legged creature gives them up willingly. Though its tubular snout is ringed with dagger-sharp teeth, Noots are pacifists first and foremost, and will only attack if provoked.

Little Dear - (Throughout) - A living trap, it's difficult for anyone humane to resist the urge to come to the aide of these innocent-seeming deer. Sent out with terrible injuries - arrows and axes lodged deeply into their flesh - and their keening cries genetically modified to sound childlike, from a distance they seem like escaped victims of a hunting encounter. However, advanced medical technology has made it possible to heal a spear through the heart to little more than an artificial wound, all while leaving the weapon in place. To the deer it is the equivalent of a scraped knee and anyone kindhearted enough to attempt to come to its aide will discover that the great antlers atop its head have been sharpened into a jutting mass of deadly blades. Also too late comes the realization that the deer is panicking not because of its wounds, but because their head has been encased in a mask that renders it blind, deaf, and unable to smell. Even if the person following their aching heartstrings thinks they know the wounded Little Dear, precious and worth saving, it does not know them. It knows the only way to be saved here is to save yourself.

Lobster Telephone - (Salt Flats) - A true novelty, the lobster telephone is exactly what its name advertises: a lobster that is also a telephone. One part delicious, one part wacky, and one part functional, so long as you don't let it wander off then you can keep your friends and family close, even if they're far. Trained to cutely clamp onto a leash for transport, lobster telephones have been recalled due to frequently latching onto their owners instead. The bright side is that you won't lose your precious ability to communicate... but you might lose a finger or an ear instead.

Moonrise Jellyfish - (Cornucopia, Paper Plains, Rose Garden, Salt Flats) - Mimicking the phases of the moon, this subtly glowing jellyfish expands and contracts its body from fully round to crescent shaped as it moves. Almost completely transparent in daylight, anyone stung by one will have a difficult time locating their attacker. At night they float like paper lanterns through the sky, lost stars adrift in the dark.

Nakom - (Throughout) - As beautiful and brutal as the jungles they inhabit, Nakoms travel in colorful swarms that move as one mind. Small animals stream out in front of the hand-sized butterflies, almost comical in their desperate escape from army ant jaws. Years ago Nakoms cleared out dangerous predators so Capitol armies could travel safely, but the swarms were gassed and the project discontinued when they lived up to their name — conquerors — a little too well, leaving the land devoid of all food and then turning on their creators and charges. They are hard to frighten and even harder to escape, which is what makes them such exciting opponents for tributes — along with the fact that they have little regard for whether they kill something before eating it.

Needlenose Hummingbird - (Salt Flats) - An accidental creation, this mutt was a failed prototype of the needlenose leafy cobragon. The hummingbird DNA was too dominant to achieve the intended oceanic aesthetic, but did conveniently result in a miniature aquatic bird possessing both incredible speed and the same dangerous ability to inject enemies with venom. Its feathers are smooth to the point of being scale-like in order to increase agility and are as brightly colored as the hallucinogenic effects of its toxins.

Needlenose Leafy Cobragon - (Cornucopia, Paper Plains, Rose Garden, Salt Flats) - These tiny sea horses travel in packs and look as if they're more plant than animal. With dramatic leaf-like fins and wide, almost hooded heads, these mutts have been adapted for flight via hummingbird DNA. Stranger still is the way their snouts have been thinned to the width of a needle — or a snake fang, as the case may be — to give them both a precision weapon and the ability to inject hallucinogenic poison directly into the bloodstream of anyone foolish enough to antagonize them.

Origami Ditto - (Paper Plains) - A creative reinterpretation of the Ditto's astounding chameleon skills, its cousin has been modified to maintain a paper-like appearance to blend in with the 75th Games arena surroundings. Re-folding itself into each new form, it can transform to mimic any muttation and its attacks in a surreal flutter of origami.

Pocket whales - (Throughout) - Originally created for the sake of curiosity, the pocket whale has recently caught on as the hottest new trend in Capitolite pets. So-named for their size and for their affinity for warm enclosed spaces, pocket whales are docile and affectionate. These pack animals are adept at reading their owner's emotional state, and are quick to cuddle and cheep at their companions when their mood is low. They form strong bonds with their owners and have trouble adjusting to new company.

Rocking Horseflies - (Throughout) - Traditionally bred as delightful children's toys, these (extremely) miniature ponies have been cross-bred with dragonflies. Candy-colored with glittering, opalescent wings, these particular rocking horseflies have had their rocking bars sharpened into a pair of deadly blades. The only thing aggressive about them is just how much they want to play with you, but it's probably best to resist the lure of their ickle itty bitty oh so adorably preciousqueeeeeEEEEE!!!!!!! TINY! CHUBBY! PONIES! THAT WANT TO BE BFFS FOREVER AND EVER AND EVER AND ...ahem. Yeah. Good luck with that.

Shark-Shark - (Cornucopia, Paper Plains, Rose Garden, Salt Flats) - Confiscated from a rogue muttations expert breeding an unlicensed sideshow, these conjoined sharks might make you do a double-take. Be it two heads or twice the tails, each shark-shark is a pair of twins born connected together. Some struggle to get along a little more than others and wind up turning in circles if one half is feeling uncooperative. Others are even more efficient at hunting due to an extra set of jaws and double the stomach space.

Sphinxlet - (Stilted Mansion, Phosphorescent Orchard) - These fluffy kittens are not the aggressive eagle-winged riddlemasters of Games past, but instead were bred with domestication in mind. Larger than your average house cat but just as devious, the sphinxlet was intended to guard small treasures around the home. They wield an array of sharp teeth in mouths too large for their faces, and as such always appear to be grinning. These highly social creatures do best with companions.

Spider Elephant - (Paper Plains) - Tall enough to lose their heads in the clouds, the legs of these elephants are too thin for logic. Teetering in the air upon the scrawniest of bones, they seem disassociated from the ground below, as if they are birds rather than enormous dream-beasts of the earth. Gazing at them as they walk a single-file line across the horizon, there is nothing aggressive about their elegant strides. Self-assured kings and queens of this land, they take little notice of any creatures below.

Spiked Croquedgehog - (Phosphorescent Orchard, Rose Garden) - Bred for illegal sport, these hedgehogs have much thicker skin than their cousins. Intended for use in a game that is half croquet and half animal fighting, not only can they withstand repeated thwacks from a mallet, but their natural spikes have been tipped with metal and individually sharpened to a point. Turns out, it's much easier to defeat your opponent when their ball is dead and no longer able to move...

Sunburst Jellyfish - (Cornucopia, Paper Plains, Rose Garden, Salt Flats) - Glowing brightly in a full array of colors, these creatures make no secret of the threat they pose. These jellyfish have been surgically implanted with two pockets of combustible liquid that will cause a small explosion if combined. While their stings are mild and rarely cause much harm, surviving the self- detonation that occurs by attacking one is another matter entirely.

Balumbus - (Paper Plains) - The Capitol do enjoy their fun and the Balumbus very much reflects that. One eccentric mutt designer decided to enter a "balloon contest" for one of the many parades in the Capitol. So what did they decide to do? Blow up a variety of normal animals. Birds were too boring, lions too nasty but the elephant, the elephant very much took off. If only the mutated elephant didn't suffocate the creator with its trunk, they were really onto a winning design. But the design was not scrapped, the team of mutt creators adapted it for the use in the games. A Balumbus is the size of any average elephant, but it contains much more air and floats around in the sky. Its trunk still drags along the ground, swiping at prey and sometimes wrapping around their bodies, suffocating the life out of them. Unlike an elephant, a Balumbus is a carnivore and anything that contains meat is on its meal plan.

Crowned Cassoture - (Salt Flats) - The Crowned Cassotures created by the capitol during a time of overwhelming trash, pollution seemed at an all time high. A scientist decided to tackle the problem with a mutt instead of trying to get the people to work together. This is how the Crowned Cassotures were created. A vulture base mixed with Cassowary to give it claws that could shred through metal cans and other sorts of waste. The project had been a success as the Crowned Cassoture got rid of trash all over Panem, helping to rid the problems of waste. The capitol realizing later how hard it had been to keep track of the brown birds amongst everything, added DNA of a colorful bird known as Violet Crowned Woodnymph, added to the beauty of it. Bright greens and blues appeared on it's feathers making it a wonderful sight to onlookers. As time passed, more of the Cassowary DNA seemed to come forth. The creation became territorial and began attacking anything that was living, tired of it's dead and disgusting diet. The capitol pulled them back from the public and locked them away for years, until someone decided to take a second chance on the bird.

Orizuru - (Throughout) - The orizuru birds were created for the benefit of the Capitol's meteorologists, who could utilize their practical weightlessness for airborne weather vanes, and the crisp texture of their paper-like wings as indicators of moisture in the air. They were hypnotic to watch when swarms were released from the tops of cliffs or weather centers, and it was often hard to believe that they really were living creatures, and not just folded origami cranes swirling in the wind. But aside from the undeniable fact that they were flapping their wings and riding the air currents, look closely enough at their wings and you can see the thin capillaries that run through them; hold their thicker folded core up to the light, and you can almost track the vibrating heartbeats that cause a faint shadow to pulse there. Swarming their prey, they dive in with their wings and beaks, the sharp clean edges of their paper thin skeletons slashing across any flesh they can see.
