They were so different in so many ways, yet both so fundamentally necessary. Daylight and dark: Carly's brilliance radiated from her, made her sure step and steady stare mean something. Tune's brilliance twinkled along her skin like the angel kisses he'd spent so many times drawing lines between in his head: she was quiet constellations. They were a sun and a moon- his sun and his moon- and it was so unbelievably selfish of him, he knew, but he detested even the mere thought that he should be expected to choose which he wanted to live without. He didn't care what it meant, or what it made him. He was probably going to die sometime in the next several days anyway, right? The gamemakers weren't exactly being subtle about it thus far- both District Three's: gone, both District Eight's: finished. Now that they'd killed off Cain, there was really only one logical option for who would be going next, right? So, naturally, Andrew was putting himself in the most danger he could have by offering to push ahead of the other two to scout for danger.
You go looking for it, you're sure to find it, His mother always said.
He made it to the crest of a hill and peered down the other side of it with careful eyes. In the near distance behind him, he could hear the nothingness of his allies approaching. Not yet in sight, not making any noise, per se, just that sense. Pushing ahead, it looked like the forest went on for several hundred more yards, at least, reaching the base of this hill and then flattening out at the bottom. He could hear the rushing of the water ahead, though only barely. No signs of danger as far as he could tell, so he trudged forward just as he saw his allies come into view from the way he came. He offered them a thumbs up as he slowly descended to the other side of the hill.
