Sometimes it's easy to fall into the same traps of the past and let the demons hold a person down. It's easy to listen to every single lies spewed from the lips of the one someone loves. Zsófia had that choice, she could've laid down and died while her parents mocked and laughed at her, while her friends told her she would never succeed, but all this did was light a fire under her to prove everyone wrong, and to show the world that even though someone has a learning disability, they're capable of succeeding.

What is the purpose of trying?

As a child, Zsófia tried her hardest to succeed like the other kids, but in school she was always left behind. Reading never came easy, and spelling was the worst, yet every single day she sat in class like she was supposed to trying to learn like a normal human being. Words didn't make sense, and the spelling didn't match the way the words were pronounced. People laughed and teased her every time she was asked to read something in class. The way they thought they were better than her because they read at a higher level.

"You'll never succeed, so I don't even know why you try."

What is the point of trying when nobody cares?

Even her own family put her down every chance they had. Father would yell at her for messing up the simplest word. Mother would lecture her own the proper way of spelling, but it just never made sense. She understood how spelling and reading worked, but what others didn't understand was why it was so difficult for her to grasp.

She tried different techniques. Flash cards, visual aids, puzzles, anything she could to force her brain to understand the words that was placed before her.

Teachers told her she would never amount to anything because she didn't understand the simplest of tasks, and so many times she asked someone for help.

She wasn't the gifted child her parents wanted her to be, and she'd never live up to dreams her family had for her. Her older brother succeed so well, he almost made everything look easy, but how? How did he understand it all?

She didn't know the answer, but by the time she was thirteen years old, she decided to ask him.

"How do you do it?"

Tears poured from her eyes as she asked her brother for help, and she cried even harder when he simply turned away without looking at her. He was her only chance at succeeding in life, and he turned away laughing as he walked away.

He's smarter than her, and he'll always be smarter than her, and it's something she's accepted, but it always brings her down.

How do they do it?

How?

Why can't I?

Laughter echoes through her ears as she sits silently in her room listening to her family chatting happily together, and they stop talking when they hear her door open only to begin when she shuts it again.

I'll never amount to anything. I'll never live up to them.

She's not good enough, not smart enough. Her peers constantly find ways to put her down to the point of where she doesn't want to leave her room. It's easier being alone. It's easier to hide under the covers and pretend life doesn't exist, and that everything is okay.

Yet every single day she forces herself out of bed to face those who mock her because she wants to learn. She wants to overcome what's holding her back, but she doesn't know how.

All seems hopeless, but one day when she's trying to spell, a classmate pulls her aside once everyone is gone. She offered a hand and Zsófia took it. Rowe taught her a way to help focus. She taught Zsófia ways to learn by tapping her finger on her pants and hearing the rhythm of each sound, and soon studies became easy for her.

And as she started doing well in school, her family asked her to share the secret because they all wanted to know.

Zsófia cannot thank Rowe enough for all the lessons, for the help she needed in learning and proving everyone wrong. Her family constantly asks how she's succeeded, and how she's fought to get to where she is. Nothing will ever change, and it's time to leave them behind and face the world knowing exactly what she's capable of.

A passion for computer programming became developed through life, and being able to sit through class after class and learn the techniques required, and proving that she's more than anyone ever made her out to be. So many times people wonder the secret to success, but the truth is, it came from never giving up. It came from someone offering her a hand when nobody else would. Teachers stare at her in awe wondering where the success came from because so many had completely wrote her off as someone who would never amount to anything.

Her dreams are becoming a reality before her very eyes.

Getting a job as a computer programmer at a successful business was the start of her dreams, but she always wanted more. She wanted a way to prove to everyone that just because someone might learn differently that they're capable for success, yet she's never had the chance to prove it.

She's slowly worked her way through the ranks. Starting out on the bottom of the totem pole, Zsófia has worked hard doing the best she could. Starting out as an assistant, and then taking over once the person she worked for retired. She learned even more until she opened her own business.

Many times her parents came back to her begging for forgiveness because they were in the wrong, and they wanted a second chance. She thought about it. She wanted them to see what they've done to her, and why come back into her life when she's just now becoming successful? Why should she help them when they never helped her?

They taught her a lot though. They taught her how to never be a parent if she ever had a child of her own. They taught her how to love, how to care for others, how to bring people up when they're always feeling like they don't belong.

Now she has the chance to prove to everyone exactly what she's capable of. So many times she wouldn't speak her mind out of fear of someone walking over her and telling her she's wrong.

Becoming a gamemaker seemed like a scary thing at first, but this is the chance to prove herself to everyone in Panem. This is her chance to show off what all she's learned.

She might not have had the greatest childhood with everyone leaving her behind. She didn't have friends. She didn't have any friends. She had nobody to turn to until Rowe stepped into her life. It's been years since she's heard from her friend, but right now she has a chance to show gratitude for the help she was given. Who knows where she would be now if it wasn't for a single person caring.

Of course, being a gamemaker can come with some risks, but it's something she accepts, and for the first time in her life, Zsófia is proud of who she is.

Maybe she can use this chance to show everyone who struggles with a learning disability that it's not a bad thing at all, and that they can succeed. It's time for her to tell her story as it may inspire someone. Maybe some kid in the Capitol right now is struggling with the same thing she went through, she's sure of it. This is her chance to shine, and it's her chance to show everyone that nobody is ever left behind.

Beaten and broken, from the ashes she rose.

Zsófia is ready for this new life, and a chance to show her family that they messed up for never helping her. She rises to fame as they're left behind to rot.
