Her brothers are fools and she doesn’t mean it in a man-hating way—if anything, she loves men for how gullible and foolish they can be—but in a ‘sister that’d done everything in her own to keep the polish on the Le Roux name’ way.

Since ancient times, it’d always been the lionesses of their pride that kept the family fed and strong. In memoirs and photo albums, there were stories of Malachi’s sister leading the lions through the dark times of war after they were hounded by the capitol. Stories of rebirth and strength. Stories of resilience and leadership. Stories that Eurydice knows, dwells in her own bones.

If Eurydice had to count the times she had to nudge him to sweep his unnecessary burdens under the rug with her fingers, the ten she has aren’t enough. That book on rebels he secretly works on is a ticking time bomb that would explode in their faces if the peacekeepers ever catches a whiff of it.

Eurydice, however, is none of those things. On some days, she isn’t even gold, but cold silver. She’s silk-wrapped swords and ‘Aurora, you better put on some fuckin’ make-up if you're coming with me to this dinner.' She’s velvet dresses and ‘Tatton, baby, did you take my goddamn dresses again?’ She’s day-old wine on a sun-kissed countertop and ‘Have anyone seen Emmett in, like, ever? Emerson, where's your fucking twin?” She’s the scent of cherries and ‘Cathy, sweetie, drink more milk. You look like a corpse.’ She’s silver bracelets ringed by diamonds and ‘Harper, what the fuck are you wearing?’ She’s red stilettos and ‘Silk, thank god you came out first.’ She’s the head of the Le Roux career training academy, but also a sparring teacher.
