May The Birds Sing Louder (Thomas)

[Serenity]

"Well, I don't exactly scan people for weapons so, that was a bit of a surprise. Anyways, I carry my knives in my bag. If I'm in danger, they might not be too easy to access but, at least I have some defense." I say, kind of enjoying explaining one of the many uses my bag gives me. "I can see how that benefits you. I haven't really got to whips and such, so I wouldn't be able to use something like that." I didn't think he would have been as brilliant to make something so well disguised as belt. Well, I swing my arms, this was Thomas, of course he was brilliant. I kind of felt like maybe he felt I expected him to do amazing things. To be honest 'just be yourself' was the only thing he needed to be around me.

I don't hold myself back when I blush when he says protecting you. He seems so sincere I just smile a soft, gentle smile that lightly plays on my lips. It was so easy to feel calm and secure around Thomas. "Don't worry. If I'm in a fight I can take more damage than what most people think girls can. I have no doubt in my mind, your probably physically stronger than me but, you don't have to worry about me." I go over what I just said, hoping it makes sense. He gave off the feeling he had more training experience than me and that he was physically stronger than me. But, due to my stupid birth disease, I might last longer, not knowing when to stop. But, that could also kill me. "So, you live around here?" I say as we turn and start walking down the sidewalk, next to a bunch of houses.

"Knives are a better choice to begin with," he commented. "That's what I keep with me in the winter when I actually have pockets." He nearly looked off to the side, but realized he no longer had to keep himself from looking at her. Entitling himself to a warm smile, he kept himself walking at a steady pace. "I could imagine, though. I've seen the Games- human beings can take a lot more punishment than most people give them credit for."

Her question took a minute to hit him for some reason- perhaps just a lapse in focus. "Ah, sorry- yes, I live right there." he pointed to a gated house that they were approaching quickly. "The gate should be opened- we keep the front door locked."

Approaching the house, it was fairly big. It had a beautiful gate, built perfectly welcoming. A few questions ran through my mind as of how to get this done. I say a few outloud. "So where do I wait for you? How long do you think you'll take...?" I say, not quite sure of anything anymore. I just enjoy looking over at Thomas. He's almost exactly my height so, it feels almost natural to look directly in his eyes. Were actually pretty close now... I was only able to really focus on one of his eyes at a time.

To be honest, his house amazed me. It was really well organized and I had to wonder if someone in Thomas' family was a neat freak. Now that I think about it... Who did Thomas live with?! His parents obviously... I vaguely, sort of, maybe remember something about a brother? I scratch the back of my hand, stopping right outside his gate. "Um, who do you live with...?"

Gently guiding her through the gate by the back, he motioned toward the side of the house. Passing through the front and cutting across a diagonal, he brought her to a wall to the left of the building. "You can wait right here," he reassured, running a hand through a knot he felt in his hair. "Now, I promised you that I would show you what I could do soon, right?" He bent an arm back, eyeing the side of the house. "Well, this is just about it." Scarcely half a breath after he finished his sentence, he jumped.

It wasn't particularly high, but what he did with it made its purpose clearer. He had enough height to reach a windowsill overhead, which he tried to get his feet on a moment later. The task was a bit of a struggle, but once he stood on the windowsill, he cleared the potentially-dangerous jump to the lower roof in seconds. Once he was comfortable, he swung open a new window over his head and climbed in, waving to Rosette to let her know he would be back soon enough.

I sit agaisn't the wall, watching him. He jumps up and I almost have a heart attack. He certainly wasn't a waste of a Career. I watch in shock as he seems to struggle up and inside. I wave back, hesitantly after he does. I'm careful not to shout out anything to him. There's people inside. I place my hand at the base of my throat. I had been talking for such a long time... My voice was almost all used up from sleep. I cough, trying to clear my throat. My body twitches and, I know if I could feel pain, I would be on the floor crying right now. I'm not sure what thomas is doing inside...

It's at that very moment I start shaking. I scramble to the inside of my bag, pulling out my medication. I open the blue holder, popping one into my mouth. Then, I shovel a red pill into my mouth. Tears for at the edges of my eyes and I can tell it was painful for my body. I let myself completely relax. Putting everything back inside my bag and zipping it up, I put it a little distance away from me then lean over, resting my head on it. I decided to rejuvenate my vocals by sleeping. Also, the nightmare woke both me and Thomas. We could both use maybe an hour more of sleep... I gently close my eyes, a strand of my blood red hair crossing infront of my eyes.

After he was cleaned and ready, he changed into a new set of clothes- a tighter, white ensemble that was better for daytime. Hanging a canteen at his side, he slipped his favorite knife into the container, making the handle look like the cap. Going down the stairs and going through the motions with his family, he mentioned going outside.

Smiling on an almost childish run out his door, seeing Rosette on the ground didn't phase him at first. Thinking she was trying to go back to sleep, he eased himself to the ground at her side, gently massaging her cheek with his hand. "Alright, I'm back," he started softly. "You can go back to sleep once we're inside if you like." He was a bit frightened that Rosette would get herself sick; they had already spent one night on the ground, and more time there wouldn't do her much good.

I had actually been awake with my eyes closed, day dreaming. The gentle hand that brushed my cheek didn't startle me at all, infact, it was more soothing than anyhing else. I slowly open my eyes, eyelashes weighing my eyelids down. "Welcome back." I say, seeing a new shine to his hair. I reach up and gently, wih one finger, twist a small curl of his hair around my finger. There was a new smoothness about it... It felt really nice... I'm confused by what he means. "Inside? Where are we going?"

I don't exactly remember talking about going anywhere but that restaurant/bar last night. I really was looking forwards to that with Thomas. I let my hand slide down his temple before bringing it back to myself and sitting up. I look Thomas over. He looked really well dressed. I mean, he looked amazing. I couldn't say it right. Something about him... I give up on explanation. "You didn't take too long. Pretty good timing... And, you look really good!" I manage, almost shocked by his looks. The sun glittering his eyes a beautiful color. He was one of those people that when he walked into a room, all eyes were on him.

Something clicked in his subconscious. I didn't mention going in, did I? He couldn't dwell on the thought for long, though. Rosette's finger in his hair lifted his spirits high enough to forget his troubles for a moment, but his answer came out quickly. "Oh, sorry- I meant the house," he explained. "I didn't want to keep dragging you around out here for too long." He scratched the back of his head, contemplating whether or not to get up.

Her compliment struck a chord with him; anything remotely positive could put Thomas in a better mood, but Rosette was a different case altogether. He stopped himself from blushing, but he almost felt a need to. "...Thanks," he managed, after a humble pause. "Maybe I'll look half as good as you one day." His eyes brightened. Looking to the side of the house, and then back to Rosette, he locked eyes with her. "I'm not going to want to move on my own- you get up first."

"I'm fine. I'm perfectly okay wih being outsside, I mean, I do it everyday..." I pause for a moment, letting my mind wander. Was he asking me to meet his family or something? The though brought a bit of heat rising into my cheeks. "So, does that mean were going inside...?" I don't know what to think about it really. I was fine with anything. Thomas should know me well enough by now that he can tell I'm fine.

"What are you saying?" I say, laughing. As good looking as me? I was still trying to live up to him and his perfect everything. His perfect hair, his perfect figure, his perfect eyes-- speaking of his eyes, they looked magnificent. I wasn't planning on complimenting him anymore but, his expression was priceless. It was so cute how he blushed over a simple compliment. Of course, I shouldn't be talking, seeing as I was almost embarressed at my blushing. I put my hand on his knee for a moment. "You do look good. More than me. You have what other people would die for. An amazing personality, looks, modesty..." I let my sentance drop off. I wasn't saying this right at all.

Well now, he refused to get up? I gently find his hand then get up onto my knees. It doesn't take much to move from there. I adjust myself up. I give him a soft smile, loosening my grip on his hand. I wasn't sure if he wanted me to let go or not. "Um... So what now?"

She seemed a bit confused for his tastes. Even though he thought he was being clear, he did have a habit of talking in circles sometimes. "Only if you're still tired," he reassured. "Otherwise, we have all day to go wherever."

"An amazing personality, looks, modesty..." He repeated. "That sounds a lot more like you than me," he mused. Resisting the temptation to close his eyes, he locked them with Rosette's.

Taking a deep breath, his smiled weakly. "Sorry if I'm acting a bit strange, by the way. It's just..." he couldn't feel himself finishing his sentence, so he dropped off.

Peeking at his face, I can see he feels a little awkward, seeing me cknfused. To be honest, that was just me, I get confused over anything and everything. Trying on an encouraging smile for once, I lean forwards, trying to see where he was looking. "I'm totally talking about you. See? Your being modest, a gentleman and sweet." I sigh, why focus on me when you have such a beautiful personality! "And, we can go where ever you want. I don't think I've been around here much, you can introduce me to whatever cool things are around here."

Keeping my eyes locked on his, I straighten up. My arm brushes his and I realize how close were walking. Of course, I keep my ground, it was sweet and I was completely aware of it. His sudden leaving the sentance makes me curious. "Your just...? You can tell me, please do." I murmur, hoping he will tell me.

He picked up on something in her expression. Whether it was confidence or bravado, there was definitely a degree of... sureness involved. Either way, he couldn't help but let his face redden. "...Thank you. I still mean every word I said, but thank you." He contemplated forcing himself to move again, but couldn't bring himself to.

"Wherever I want, hm?" he repeated. He tried to run thoughts of parks and restaurants through his head, sifting through for something more original. The only thought that struck him was... odd, to say the least; probably dangerous. Until that point, he had only done it alone or in a group of four boys, but if Rosette was up to the task... "I guess we can just get walking until we figure something out," he started. "I only have one idea, but..." he chuckled lightly. "If we decide on it, we'd need to wait until at least tomorrow."

On the last note, his boldness dissipated again. "Well..." He sighed happily. "I feel like this isn't necessarily new to me, but it is- having someone like you around, I mean." His words were beginning to fall out wrong. "It's still the best I've ever felt, it's just hard for me to keep from getting too excited or off-track... am I making sense?"
