Can Everything Be Silent When You Can't Hear?
Bastet Flail
Bastet Flail squatted on the ground, cleaning Glass's hooves. Using the pick, she went around the edge's of her black mare's hooves, scraping the dirt clogged up in there ever since she went for a ride in the rain. The ride was fun, but terribly messy. Putting her beautiful mare's leg back in it's position, she sprung up and admired the beautiful hooves she had finished scraping. Finally, now I just need to brush her coat. Taking the hoof pick and putting it on the rack of small tools, she picked up the brush and approached the mare.
Almost as instantly as she touched the brush did the mare instantly shy away. Well, that's odd thought the deaf girl. Glass always loved being brushed, and never before in her entire life did Glass shy away. Putting the brush on a bale of hay, she signed to the horse "What's wrong, sweetie?" Patting the horse on it's dark back, it shied away again, making a whinny that Bastet couldn't hear. Widow, in the stall next to Glass, made a whinny that Bastet didn't detect.
Something was wrong. Something was direly wrong. Running outside of the stables, Bastet quickly aimed her oddly colored eyes around the field of grass, trying to see if a coyote was near. No coyote came. The wind picked up, and the clouds blotted out the sun, just like it does every day this time of year. With blond hair clouding her vision, Bastet couldn't see a thing. She couldn't see anything besides the faint shape of a person.
Long ago, the farm she lived on had been a secret rebel camp. These rebels left many weapons and food behind, forcing her family to hide them in a secret area buried in the field. Bastet realized she was near the secret area, and with a smile, ran to it. Ripping up the big piece of wood that covered the hole in the ground, she picked up a sword and looked out into the yonder for that mysterious person.
