Well, it's just a simple fact. When I want something, I don't want to pay for it.
It was rainin', again. I hate the rain. It's wet, but I can't really change that. It's not like I'm god or anythin'. Anyway, I looked out at the street as the rain drummed against the flat roofs of District 6. As nature played its song, I began to walk. Carefully, casually. Trying not to draw attention to myself.
I slipped through the men and woman hurrying round with shoppin' and umbrellas. Rich ones too. Their elegant clothes showed their status here in District 6, and it made me positivly sick. I wasn't planning to steal from any of them anyway, that'd be way too easy. I had my eyes on something else today. The shops that lined the market were screaming my name, beggin' me to steal from their shelves.
A smile grew slowly across my face as I reached the first shop. It was an Art shop. Empty, which made nickin' whatever I wanted harder but I could try. Sadly, as I reached the door to the shop I read the sign that had been posted there.
CLOSED DUE TO THE HUNGER GAMES
Shops did this alot round here when the games were on. Shut up shop they did, for the few weeks the kids of the arena fought to the death; but the Games were over. Shops closed after the Games meant one thing. The shop keepers were in mournin'. I grimaced slightly thinkin of this years tributes. Alikia Lombrary was this years girl tribute. She was a nice girl. I'd met her before, durin' class and what have you. She had been a pretty girl. It was a shame to watch her die in our other tributes arms.
Dicentra Gambler- Nice kid, theif and good friend to all who knew him. I'd seen him about, nickin' things from stalls and stuff. Us theives notice that sorta thing. Course' he didn't notice me. I hadn't understood why he'd cried when Alikia died. From what I knew- he didn't cry so why had he cried for her? Course, I'd never know now cause he was dead. Kid from District 4 took him out- severing his foot from his body. Nasty way to go if I do say myself.
However before he died I took word of what he said. I knew what it meant. It'd been goin' round the circut for some time now, course I didn't know what it exactly intailed but I had a rough idea. I took a step back from the shop and moved onto the next. Nice little shop, sold books and things. I needed a new book to read to the kids at home. Glancin round I stepped inside.
Smelt like wood- dead wood. Like most books do. It was a dim place, and dusty. Yuck, Spiders I thought as I ventured deeper into the bookstore. The shelves gave me great concealment as I snaked my way to the children section. There weren't many books there only about 12 different titles like; Jabber Jay goes shopping, The very hungery capitoly, Little Red Rebelion and Alice in the Arena. I hadn't read the kids the Alice book yet, so I tentivly reached out and slipped a copy into my jacket pocket.
