Why here?!? Why now?!?

[/size] My face had grown pale after the reaping. The only good part of this, I would get to see my friends before I was sent off to the Capitol. From there, I was suppose to reside for a week and find myself stuck in an arena with a bunch of bloodthirsty kids! Taking a deep breathe a crowd of peacekeeps practicly push me off the stage. The person I want most is Hunter. He is my everything and anything. He helped me through a time in my life when no one else was there. Some stared and some smiled. He stood up and spoke to a peacekeeper like he was a small child. He wanted me safe and home. I'm afraid he thinks he has failed himself. I don't want him to die along with me. It would be putrid and cold. He deserves to live and if whoever decided my time has ended, i'm fine with that. I just don't want my demise to hurt the ones I love. No matter how hard it is to get it stuck in his stubborn head I will let him know how I feel. A kiss and hug is surely in order.[/size] Wait-What if he doesn't come?[/size] He will come and I just know it. He loves me way to much to just walk off and watch me die live on television.

It's so hard to please that little voice in my head. It tells me when something bad is going by making my stomach tear into flames. This time, it isn't. I believe it now because look at me. I'm in a justice building after getting reaped.I am kind of guessing I am right about Hunter because my stomach hasn't let hell break loose yet. I keep the word yet in my thoughts and store it in the most important place. I do this mainly because it makes me cautious about my environment and surroundings. It makes me observe things more closely. Like this couch, it's a beautiful velvet red, almost the color of my blood red dress. It's soft and cushy unlike my bed back in district 11, the ground. I had leaves sometimes but they do not comare to the fluffiness of this sofa. The floor is blood red carpet. I'm guess it's this color incase someone brings red wine into the room. I really have no idea why someone would but it could be a present to a tribute as if saying, make your final days enjoyable.

This is something I am going to try and do. I have no hope that I will come back and be a grand victor for my district. That I will live in fame and in history. I want to try for Hunter but what's the use? There are 24 of us and only 1 comes out. This isn't some romantic love story where my boyfriend is reaped and we both live. It is reality. I've even already considered the ways I could die. Maybe by a muttation that wants to give the audience a good show. Maybe another tribute who craves the fame or just getting out of here alive. Maybe even of thirst and starvation. I really like the muttation way of dying because I will be remembered. Dead tributes aren't buried the proper way and it just seems nice. What am I even saying? Many tributes are killed by muttations and people around my district don't even know their names. The only person to remember me will be Hunter. He will tell an exaggerated story of my death with tall strong tributes who could slice off your head 50 yards away. He probably won't even talk about me when his memory gets bad. It happens to almost everyone.

The Capitol talks shit about there being no place to go when your dead. There just has to be! I slam my fists across the the couch. They say your insides make you work and fit together but I just don't believe it. There has to be something more to connect all the puzzle pieces. I've heard small talk about something called a soul that floats through the air when your dead. They call them ghosts. The ones who die murderesly, like tributes, can turn into a nasty witch called banshees which can screech. This is where they say a panther's cry comes from. Then, when your dead your all alone. You get to walk around the streets and no one notices you there and never will. You see all your crushes, or in my case, boyfriend. The pain of him moving on hurts but yet it is something I want him to do. I cringe. The thought of watching him with a woman having what's suppose to be my children just hurts me emotionally. I creeking sound comes from the door and my imagination has switched off. I cross my fingers and try to smile.

What am I doing? I don't even know the girl. My hand is already turning the doorknob. Well I need someone to root for in the games at least. I open the door and walk in the room. The tribute, Taylor, is sitting on a red velvet couch. Red, everything's red in here. The color of blood. It reminds me of the games that she's about to go in to.

"I'm Matthew Rain." I say, introducing myself. I reach in my pocket. I feel the chain of the necklace. I wanted her to know I was rooting for her. That someone was. Even though we didn't know eachother. I look at her. "Here." I say, as I reach in my pocket and pull out the necklace. I unclasp it and put it around her neck. I had found it in the fields for some reason. I had cleaned it up and decided to give it to someone. I didn't give it to Laura because, well, anyways. I speak up. "You can use this as your token. To remind you of the district." I turn to walk out. "I'm rooting for you." I say.

Turns out I saw them a couple of days ago,

I can’t believe this is happening. I vowed to myself that this would not happen. I will NOT be a bloodthirsty killer! The Capitol is going to pick pieces of flesh off of me, containing them in glass jars until I’m not my own person anymore. What a monster they will make of me. I never thought I would miss District Eleven as much as I do right now, and I’m still in it. My fists are as red as a tomato from banging it against the wall numerous times. HA! I should try and commit suicide with myself before I go into the arena, and then my family won’t have to watch me suffer. They would make my family suffer, though. I’d rather have myself killed and tore apart then poor Rue, or even my mother or father. Imagine what they’re going through right now. Cling, clang, the dog chained necklace goes as my fingers play around the chain, caressing the encrusted ’Live Like You’re Dying’, a motto I’ve been following my whole entire life. My token.

I’m still playing with my necklace when my abnormally large attention span is turned to Taylor Muncie, my district partner. It was just a coincidence that we happened to be friends. The Capitol did not reap that on purpose. No, just a pure coincidence. I cannot imagine how poor Hunter is taking it right now. We’re friends, if I can say so. I will try and win, although I can’t say if I will. If I don’t win, I hope Taylor wins. She deserves it. Many other people have had practice with skills you’d need in the arena, while lil’ old me. Picking out flaws of myself is something I often enjoy to do a lot. Strengths: Strong, can handle a knife semi-well. Weaknesses: Pretty much everything else. Yeah, I won’t make it out.

I press my ear to the door, faintly hearing the deep voice of a peacekeeper ordering some sort of instructions to another person. Not sure who the person is, or what the instructions were, I press my ear harder the door then before, but eventually the door opens and slams my head into the wall. A crying girl almost slams her body into mine, hugging so tightly I may not be able to breathe. Reluctantly, I pull my arms around the emotional girl as well. I’m not so sure what I am doing, until I recognize the wailing girl as my sister. “Rue!” I shout loudly, and because she’s crying, I feel a couple of tears coming down my face, too. I’m not crying as hard as she is, though. I stroke her bright red hair with my hands, missing her more then ever, although she is right in front of me. It’s hard to think, that I will be sent away from the family I grew with my whole life. I look up to see my teary faced parents as well, smiling, trying to hide their emotions. But, I knew, deep down inside, that they were bawling, their oldest child, on his last reaping in his entire life, got reaped.

I let go of Rue, but I know she is trailing shortly behind me. I look down at my father’s shoes, a bit afraid to see his course face. “I’m sorry.” Slips out of my mouth, and I don’t exactly know what I’m saying. I’m too shocked right now, to see my family right in front of me, in the place I’d never thought I’d see them in. The Justice building, the only place where you can find elegant velvet rugs and love seats, chandeliers hanging high above your head, glowing as bright as the night sky. Ripred knows how much money was spent on this place, and how they could afford it. “Listen to me.” He says, grabbing me by the shoulders. I look him straight into his hazel eyes, trying to search for something. “Try to win. I’m not naïve, I won’t get mad if you don’t win. I’ll be sad, depressed, perhaps.” He takes a breath, and continues. “Just try to win. If you can’t, then I’ll know you tried.” He lets go of the tight grip on my shoulders, and I nod, to let him know that I’ll try my best. I won’t pick up a sword and learn how to swing one around, first. I’ll learn skills that will actually help me in the arena. Like medicinal plants.

When it comes time for my mother, she just hugs me and tells me good luck. She’s always been a simple person. A Peacekeeper peaks in and tells us time is up. Almost in unison, my family takes 1 finger on their left hand, 1 finger on their right, and cross them together. A sign in District 11 to say good luck. I nod my head multiple times, wiping a few tears which are sprouting in my eyes, and the peacekeeper escorts them out.

I sit down on the soft, red velvet couch, and wait for anymore surprises that may effect my life.

"3 minutes Hunter!" the people yell at me as I open the door to the room that Taylor is in. "Shut up!" I yell back. I pull the doorknob and open the door, the room is blood red, EVERYWHERE. I close the door shut and sit next to Taylor. I just can't believe she was reaped, this kills me. I clutch her hand hard and slip a ring onto her finger. " If you dont already have a token, you can have this" I say as I pull my hand away. I then see the necklace around her neck. "Oh, I'am sorry. I didnt know." I quietly wonder if shes alright, and if she will even be ok in the games. I tightly hug her and just sit there for a minute. Suddenly a peacekeeper comes in. "Hunter its time to go." he says harshly. "But can I ju-" he interuppts me by grabbing me by the shoulder and pulling me away. Taylor! win for me! Ill try and get you sponsers!" I yell as I am being tugged away, the door is about to close when I say my last words " I love you". The door slams shut and the peacekeepers keep me outside. "Damn" I mutter...
