An orphan's curse would drag to hell, a spirit from on high; but oh! more horrible than that, is a curse in a dead man's eye!
Samuel Taylor Coleridge
SYCAMORE HOUSE
[/font][/center][/color][/justify][/size]Right in the corner of District Five, nestled up near the electrified fence, there is a building. It is derelict and tumbling down, so much so that at first glance you would assume that the house hadn't been inhabited since the industry change. Certainly no changes or repairs have been made to the house since long before then - not since Miss Aggie lost her mind, anyhow. Despite the houses unkempt and battered appearance, there are signs of life if you look close enough. A precarious sandcastle built up in a small patch of sand on the grass. A rusty and broken bike left on the lawn. A pair of small pink wellington boots by the door. Words written in the dust on the windows. All signs that maybe somebody lives there after all. There is a carved board out the front of the house - as dismal and worn out as the place around it. If you run your finger over it, however, you can still make out the words engraved in the wood. Sycamore House. A house of misplaced and abandoned children. A home. An orphanage. A place where the unwanted citizens of District Five live. A place where they always have, ever since the uprisings.
Miss Aggie was appointed to care for the orphans sixty years ago. She's eighty now, and her mind went a while back. She stopped fixing things, she stopped tucking in the children and reading them stories. She stopped making sure that each of her charges where safe and well. For sure, she cared for them, but the poor old lady could no longer care for herself, never mind a troupe of young homeless orphans. The Capitol, however, aren't prepared to fund a second carer while Miss Aggie still lives. After all, nobody cares for the children - that is why they are orphans - so there is nobody left to insist upon the change. The unwanted minors of Five all live together, caring for each other as though they where truly family after all.
Thank you to Windy, Zoe and Wonder for their help with the plottage. Anybody who signs up must be prepared to participate in a lot of planned threads, scheduled events and sibling angst. These threads mayor may notinclude floods, fires, relationships, fights and other unfortunate events.
Disclaimer: This plot was not intended to eliminate or ignore the existence of any other characters or orphanages on the site. It is purely for the entertainment purposes to those who are involved. Sycamore house is not the only orphanage in Panem or District Five nor does it claim to take in every orphaned child in the District.
CHARACTERS

Edgar [17] [reserved for Che1sey]
A boy who figures that he 'has nothing to loose, so what the heck', Edgar was abandoned on the doorstep just hours after being born. He doesn't know whether his parents left him there for financial or other reasons, but he knows he never wants to see them again. He struggles a little with trust, and often comes across as a jerk to everyone except Laila, who he treats like a little sister. As the eldest of the children, he has been forced into a father-figure like role, although he is not the most responsible of sixteen year olds. Edgar gets himself into fights often, generally over the other residents of the home. Deep down he is kind hearted and brave, although that is incredibly deep indeed. To most he is seen as arrogant and defensive.

Biography:
Lilith [17] [reserved for Stare]
Lilith, although young, is the mother of the group. She is seen by each and every one of the children as the stability in their lives; she always knows what to do; she is always there for them when times get tough. She is strong and fierce - a warrior with a heart of gold. Inside, however, Lilith is falling apart piece by piece, going slowly crazy with the responsibility of the others and the weight of her unfortunate past on her shoulders. She is afraid to open up or talk about how she feels for she is sure that if she pushes down her turmoil for long enough, it will leave her alone. Of course, this is not the case. Lilith's parents where killed when she was ten years old while trying to sneak out of the District. She was spared, although she often wishes she was killed, too.
Lilith is barely ever seen without the baby, Ara, on her hip.

Biography:
Arwen [16] [reserved for Clover]
Arwen is ruthless and Arwen is tough. The way she has found of shutting out her problems is not only pretending they didn't happen - but making out that even if they did, she couldn't care less. She is snarky and sarcastic, and quick to defend herself. Prone to flying into fits of ruthless rage, Arwen is, deep down, glad that each member of the house is so accepting of her ways. The girl prefers to be alone, stating that she doesn't like people. The kids sometimes remind her of her smaller sisters and brothers, each of which died when a flu took hold of their household, killing each of them and their parents. Arwen was the unlucky survivor, orphaned at thirteen.

Biography:
Silas [15][reserved for Zoe]
Silas is the only person who is able to calm Arwen when she is in one of her rages - and in return she tolerates him. He is quiet and firm, and although he seems shy there is an undoubtable power behind his soft words. It is not that she is scared of him, but they have a kind of mutual respect and liking for each other that has slowly resulted in a friendship. He is dark and gloomy, however, and generally avoided by anyone other than his 'family'. Silas never speaks of his past, but if he where to he would tell of his mother dying when he was born, and living with his grandmother until she too died. He moved into the home at the age of thirteen.
Ruth [14] [reserved for Cait]
Ruth is a quiet girl with big dreams and a shy demeanour. Often overlooked by her peers, the younger twin resents her protective brother, although she loves him very much at the same time. The twins lived with an abusive father for many years until they where removed from his care. Ruth loves reading and drawing, and wishes to one day be seen as an individual rather than simply a twin. I would be interested to see the road that the twins relationship takes, and how she works through her shyness. She is interested in art and fashion.

Biography:
Blaire[14] [reserved for Arx]
Blaire is good willed, however he is overly protective of his twin, Ruth. He doesn't like her to have friends other than him - not because he is greedy or cruel but because he doesn't want her to be hurt. He has a general distrust for humans after abuse he suffered up until the age of nine when he came to the home. He spend most of his time with his sister, although he is more outgoing and sporty than she is. In a social setting he is the one of the two that you would notice.
Septimus [13] [reserved for Wonder]
Septimus is hyperactive and loud, with a fondness for explosives, although he only ever sees such things on the television he had at his mothers home. He enjoys setting pranks for the other members of the house, and is, on the outside, cheery and playful. His mother was often neglectful of him when he was younger, wishing that she had had a daughter rather than such a boisterous son. When he was eight, she fell pregnant with his baby sister and abandoned him, and he came into Miss Aggie's care. Other residents of the home suspect that underneath his loud exterior is some kind of sadness, however if there is Septimus hides it well.
Laila [12][reserved for Python]
Like Edgar, Laila was a doorstep baby and has been living at Sycamore House for all of her eleven years. She is a strange child who suffers from drastic mood swings and uncontrollable fits of rage. She is unstable and usually silent, however she goes through times when she is sweet and cheery. Utterly unpredictable, Edgar is the only one who can reason with her and connect with her properly, although even he is unable to calm her when she becomes worked up about something. It is unknown who her parents where or why they abandoned her.
Ara [NPC]
Ara, the baby, is a non-playable character. Anybody in the plot is welcome to speak of her actions, especially Lilith.
Miss Aggie [NPC]
For the moment I am leaving Miss Aggie as a NPC, so any of the characters are permitted to speak of her in passing.
