INDIVIDUAL DIVING

Welcome to the Individual Diving tournament of the very first Panem Olympic Games! The diving pool is located in the aquatics center, with stands for spectators traveling from Districts One, Two, Four, and the Capitol to watch the competitors. Television cameras are set up around as well, to broadcast the event to anyone staying home as well as to the other districts who aren't as lucky and competent as you all! Please be sure you all warm up with your coaches before your turn comes to dive, and remember, make your district proud!

The execution of this event is simple. Feel free to roleplay your character getting ready for their dives, and then paste the code [*dice=10] without the asterisks THREE TIMES (you are taking three dives) into your post and roll, as you would with a Hunger Games die. You will roll a number 1-10 on each dice, and that represents your execution score out of ten. In addition to this, each dive will have a different difficulty score, which will be added to your execution scores to get your actual score for each dive. In the end, all these will be added up to determine your overall score.

The difficulty degrees of each dive are as follows:

Dive 1 - 5.0
Dive 2 - 5.8
Dive 3 - 6.5

Feel free to roleplay your character performing each dive/their reaction to each dive/etc after you roll.

There is NO POSTING ORDER; you may post your dives whenever you please. Keep in mind, though, that this is meant to move pretty fast, so we're not looking for exceedingly long posts.

The smell of water was something Jayson had grown accustomed to. The smell of pool water was different than the ocean, though. It smelled..cleaner? In comparison to the sea, Jayse would choose the sea. Every time. It was so untamed, so peaceful, whereas the water in the pool looked almost like a prison. It was contained, and had no life at all. Still this was where he was performing his next event, and he refused to mess up again like he had in archery. He couldn't afford to. If he messed this up, he only had one chance left, and he would rather pull himself ahead of the competition now so that he knew for a fact he'd done his job correctly. He looked at the diving board, and a smile crept across his face. He'd spent his entire life in water, regardless of f it was training or not. He'd gotten plenty of lessons on what to do if there was water, and diving had been one of his favorites.

It was time for him to prove himself, and hopefully this time he wouldn't make a complete fool of himself. No. This time he was going to be perfect, he wasn't going to make a simple mistake. Yes, people were watching him, but shouldn't that be a good thing? He was good enough for them to watch. He was one of the few that had been offered the chance to do this. Of course people were going to see him. People wanted to see him. That was enough promise for him as he made his way up the ladder. Just do what you know you can do. It was simple. It was easy. He'd done it a thousand times before, right? He was there, standing on top of the ladder. It was like a stage, and he was a dancer, a boxing ring, and he was a fighter. He began the first of three jumps.

He wasn't sure how he did, he just hoped it was good enough to get a decent score, and so he went on to finish the last two dives he had left, each on being more and more difficult. He knew i he executed them like he'd done in practice there was nothing to worry about, but what if he messed up again? What if he had to go to the last resort, and spend the entirety of the last event worrying about if he was going to be good enough? Maybe that was what he needed to do. Stop thinking so much.

Perfect. He'd done just what he told himself to do, and ended up making a pretty great score. Actually, his second jump felt better than any he'd ever done before. Maybe it was enough to get him what he'd came here for. Gold.

But hey now, you know, girl, we both know it's a cruel world.

There were two things Locust had grown accustomed to over the years: living in the shadows, and living beneath the eyes of those who failed to appreciate her as a human being. Now, with hundreds of eyes analyzing her as she stepped toward the edge of the platform and prepared for her first dive, there was an overwhelming sensation of anxiety and discomfort surging into her, threatening to throw her off balance into an abyss of humiliation. She had not agreed to participate in the Olympics just to prove herself unworthy of the sports she knew she excelled at; it was to spite her sister, the aspiring “career” who so quickly turned her nose away from the opportunity the moment it presented itself. Her mother, of course, had pleaded princess Priscilla to sign up and award the Lovelace family with pride and championship. For what reason she so stubbornly refused, Locust had no idea, but as soon as she realized her sister was too much of a coward to participate she had leapt at the chance.

Unfortunately, she had failed to consider the consequences - that being the cameras broadcasting her on live television at every angle as if there was no area of her quivering body that she could possibly conceal. Swallowing a rather large, imaginary lump in her throat, she mentally chastised herself for allowing fear to cloud her confidence, and with a long exhale of breath she closed her eyes, narrowed her thoughts, and focused on the task at hand. Diving; one event, three shots, and more than enough chances to unveil her skills to Panem. That was, of course, if she didn’t let the anxiety consume her. Opening her eyes one more, she pursed her lips and stood on the very edge of the platform, tensing her muscles in preparation for the fist dive - a potential moment of glory if she played her cards correctly. The sapphire below her both beckoned and repelled her, its surface still disturbed by ripples from the previous diver making his moves. She had purposely distracted herself from the boy to keep her confidence balanced. Now, it was time to see just how strong the confidence would shimmer. Without another moment’s hesitation, she jumped.

After the first two dives she had desired so desperately to crawl into a small space and hide within the depths of darkness for eternity. She could sense the stiff reactions from the audience the moment her head resurfaced, and both times she knew that the quality of her dives had both disappointed spectators and failed to meet her expectations. With only one chance remaining the gate to hopelessness had opened its withering doors and welcomed her like kin. This was not a moment to surrender, however; she was not a fool. She was not a weak athlete despite her “mother’s” insults. She was not pathetic or dimwitted or incapable of achieving greatness. With those thoughts in mind, she had stormed her way back up to the platform with revived optimism that compelled her to channel her energy into one last performance. This time, when she grasped the edge of the pool and pulled herself up, she heard the audience’ cheers, and for the first time in awhile, she smiled.

Of course her parents entered her in the Olympics, its not like she had done anything in the games considering she still hadn't been reaped. Her first event was fast approaching and her coach from Career training had accompanied her to the pool. As they sat on the sidelines his hands dug into her back thrusting her closer to the ground "Stretch your back out, You've been pulling it tight lately when we've practiced...and don't forget to point your toes, your big feet make you look sloppy unless you do."

Giving a sigh Ran leaned forward letting her back stretch out and pushing the tension out through her finger tips. Diving was nothing she did it off the docks all the time, lately though, in preparation Coach had been having her dive off her parents boats, adding flips and twists and trying to find out a combination that was difficult and pleasant looking. "I got this coach. Don't worry." She smiled as her name was called. She had stood up to Julian Bryze, how difficult could this be?

Climbing up the platform and walking to the edge she pushed herself up on her toes before letting her body soar through the air.

The first dive felt perfect, the spins, the twists, it all came together and she actually felt she might get a 10. As she came to the surface and popped out of the pull she saw "9" flash across the board and the dissapointment on her face was visable. Stomping up the stairs again her next dive was in her mind a catastrophe. Nearly hitting her head on the edge of the platform and entering the water at a funky angle, if she scored more than a two she would think the judges were on mophling. She didn't even raise her eyes to see the score before going up for her final dive.

It felt good, not as good as the first but at least a 6. Her toes did come unpointed at the last minute giving a bit more splash than she would've liked. Ducking herself under the water in the rinse pool she let out a scream into the liquid. Anything less than perfection was a failure, and as she came to the top she saw that she had scored 9-4-8. Not perfect by any means.

Scarlet took her place at the bottom of the ladder leading up to the diving board. She was the 9th competitor to go. She knew there was no pressure....... that was a joke. since there was more district 4 competitors compared to district 2. she started to climb the ladder leading to the top of the diving board.

She slowly grabbed each run thinking to herself. What she had gotten herself into. Was she ready for this. She wondered if this competition had any reprocutions. All she could hope for was a decent score that would let her place decently high.

She grabbed the last rung and heaved herself up onto the board. She walked to the edge and put her toes over and looked down into the water. Only one thing was running through her mind. Was she skilled enough to beat the competitors. She took a few deep breaths and bounced once, twice, a third time and leaped off.

She got out of the pool and grabbed her towel. Each dive was a decent one. But nothing that could be good. She could only hope that it was good. But she was glad for one thing. She made it out to the Panem Olympics.

The Olympics had been the only thing so far in her life that Rowan Duncan willingly volunteered and competed in. She was capable of swimming, shouldn't she see if she was the best? Rowan was sure that it wouldn't hurt to try; the honor of winning a medal would be fun, wouldn't it? She had already changed into her diving suit and was mentally preparing for these dives. It had been a stressful day so far and it was all coming to one moment, it was nearly her time to dive. With mainly D4's in the competition it was highly unlikely that District Four wouldn't earn a medal in diving. Weren't they the only people who had ready access to pools and water?

"Rowan Duncan from District Four." She heard her name come across the speakers in the stadium. She stood there for a second taking in a sharp breath telling herself that she had no time for nerves.

She walked to the pool and climbed to the diving board. Giving a few quick glances at her coach, she had several seconds before it was expected she would dive. Rowan took these seconds to look out at the crowds expecting her to do well but those from One and Two and maybe some from the Capitol hoping she'll fail. Her diving would earn her applause she was sure. It was time to dive. One last look at her coach and she was ready.

Her feet left the board and she eagerly anticipated the moment she first hit the familiar coolness of water. In a three minute time frame, the water pooled around her in an embrace three times, every fear left her body and she knew she had won. On the last dive she climbed out of the pool and eagerly anticipated the flashing of scores. 13, 8.8, and finally 14.5. That added up to 36.3, she had beaten at least one D4. That would be enough for now. There were more events for her.

Nollamara stared at all the other girls who were diving and spinning and doing all that fancy stuff, they were twisting and turning like pretty little perfect girls. God she hated them all. None of them had any style; they just flipped this way and that way like a fish out of water gasping for breath. She knew she was so much better, I mean just look at her, perfect in every way. Confidently she struts over to the diving platform, her feet slapping the ground with each of her steps.

She hadn’t known why she had agreed to do this, why she had signed up to dive ten meters that was pretty high. But with a smile on her face she climbed up, right to the very top where the sturdy platform looked out over the water. She took a deep breathe, before peeping over the edge, it was high, very high, ten meters. Nolla stared out over the crowd and all the people that were there, she looked at all the faces, watching her expectantly, wanting her to jump. How could she refuse?

Taking a step backwards, she paused, she walked delicately to the tip of the platform, rising her arms up she looked around herself. Then she jumped.

"No! No! No! That is not good enough." She screeched. She stormed off and away from the pool, fuming. Those pathetic judges, they had been bitches to her, she was so much better then that. Sure on her third dive it had become more of a belly flop, but her technique had been right. She glares with eyes filled with hate at the judging panel.

Diving is a lot like juggling, if you think about. And I'm oh-so good at thinking.

Because they bounce around like juggling balls or fruit or whatever I can find around my house and they go up up up and down down down except it's a bit more elegant, but my body could be the twisting that my hands make when I do what I love most. Some people might think that there's no way in hell that these two could be related, but they can be. Everything can be related, if you think about it. We're all connected, like the dots on the puzzles I used to do at school maybe that's the reason I was so good at those and I always finished first in the class when we did them because my pencil just went dot dot dot join join join like my mind does all the time.

And I'm probably rubbish at diving, let's face it, I've never really done it before except bomb off the side of the pools at training that once time I got into loads and loads of trouble but it's not my fault I didn't know, besides I was new so there's no use shouting at me, mister, but if I believe that diving is like juggling, then there must be some part of it that I'm good at, right?

[School is the bane of my life]

Diving her next event, one that would not be one of her best. But she had to try, she gave a quick glance to her dad who seemed to be not so interested. He knew that it was not her best event, from when she was younger and she would dive off the cliffs. He would shake his head if when she came above water, it was just not a special talent like others had.A basic dive, okay. But twists and flips and everything else, well. But her last event had been amazing, even getting a shock from her brother who was use to the attention set on him. Sweeping across the water like a mermaid and beating everyone their was, now that got an holler from the audience and a good job from her dad. Now that was the thing she was aiming for, but it was not over yet. She still had three events to go and right now she was on her third.

As she positioned herself, she let her toes grip the sides of the board and squeeze tightly. Serena would of loved to stay up there all day and not make a fool of herself like she knew she would and the pressure from the last event was so overbearing that it was still tingling up her spines. But now she jumped, and that is what she did as her name echoed across the area. ]Making sure that all eyes focused on her as she soared into the air.

That was fine. Seven is good right? The first thought that came to her mind as she emerged from the crystal pool water. Serena did not know much about the rules of diving but saw it as average as a mere shrug came from her dad when she glanced back to him.

And another seven came last. The outcome of Serena, she was happy. But her dad was not, she could tell with a gander at the board and saw she was around in the middle. At least I am not last, she merely shrugged and climbed out of the pool. Reaching her towel and giving each of the competition a thumbs up.

In order to break the tie between the three first placers we're going to have a dive off. I'm going to ask Lieutenant, Ran, and Gage to each post a roll out of 10 for a dive with difficulty 7.0. the highest roll will get first, then next highest second, and so on. In addition to that, the same dive-off will be held between Scarlet and Jayson for 4th place.
