I kept my head tucked well into my chest, my eyes drawing mental images into the sooty tile below. But I froze, nothing moving but my eyes when the guy lifted my head with a strong but cold finger, his eyes drilling into mine. I stared back, completely taken aback by his words.
"I have not had the pleasure of obtaining your name so for now I'll call you Shadow. Onto this food situation, it doesn't appear as if your brother is here at this time. It would also seem that you have not eaten in a very long time by your emaciated figure. So do me a favor and eat some of the food, I don't think your brother would want you to starve."
My heart dropped into my stomach, his words nearly tearing me apart inside. What did he know about my brother? He was well fed, had rest at night, and was a healthy little bloke. And I swore to myself that that is the way it will always be. Have me starve, eat and sleep enough to survive for Rayth, and let him enjoy the rest of life, since I obviously had nothing to live for. I kept my gaze at the boy's face, never looking directly into his eyes. I wanted to cry, but I ran out of tears a long time ago. Since that one day, I haven't bene able to cry since. I was a dry well.
I had to tell him my name, but I was amused by the name Shadow. I had never had a nickname, and it was actually a happy time for me to accomidate one. I nearly grinned, but realized reality, and my cold, blocked face grew back into it's usual spot. I cleared my throat quietly.
"My name is Glass. And my brother means more to me than life, no thanks, but I will not be eating."
I whispered my words, they being only a resonate of the air. I hoped he had heard them, but when he got up and walked back to the others, I lost hope. I became still and quiet as I watched the others stuff their faces. I still didn't know their names, but they seemed as if they were having a good time.
Hm. Great, let them have fun. I think I'll stay right here.
