"]As I rise to another morning of my life, I wish I didn’t wake up anymore. I wish I was drown to my sleep and be stuck in my inner dreams far away from this reality. Life wouldn’t be this hard inside a dream, and in desperate times you would feel as if your dreams are real like a world with no bloodshed, a world far from being harmed, and a place where everything is safe and sound. I lift my head to look at the clock that is hanging in the wall. 7:30 am. Wow. Early it is. Suddenly I heard something, like a gnawing sound. Goodness… Our pet squirrel Pine-nut is gnawing off a few chunk of wood from the head bored of my bed again. “Pine!” I shouted. Oh that squirrel. “I’ll find you breakfast.” I tell her angrily.
It wasn’t a bright sunny morning that greeted me today but instead a cloudy sky and dim weather. I just hope it won’t rain today. I love dim weathers because it’s cold and moist, quite humid, not like dry and parched, scorching hot more like it.
“Selena?” My mom’s voice echoed from below. “Are you awake?”
I popped my head beside my door frame. “Yeah, why?”
“You can take a bath now while the water is warm.” She said.
“Okay.”
After taking a bath, I find my mom in my room. She placed a bright green dress on my bed. It was bright green but not that bright as it was 20 years ago, it has a ribbon for the waist and bubble sleeve.
“Mom…You know I hate dresses…” I say to her.
She looked at me with a straight facial expression. “You’re a lady.”
I sighed. “We are not in district 1, mom. I might as well as wear something that fits my job.” I hold on to the towel that is wrapped around me. “If you think wearing dresses would help me find a guy, then I’m telling you right now that I’m not planning on it.”
My mom gives me a glare. “Just wear it.” Then she walks out.
I blew my bangs and looked at Pine-nut. “What are you looking at?” I say to her. “You’re lucky you won’t get to wear a dress.”
An hour have passed and I heard the tick of the wall clock down stairs. It’s time for mom to go to work. I ran down stairs. I couldn’t help but my feet seems to bang every step I make. My mom raised her brow.
“Selena what have I told you about running down the stairs? And banging them? You’re a lady.” She would tell this to me every morning of my life. Instead of answering back I just let it go this time. She gives me another look and hugs me goodbye. She kisses my forehead and gives me another squeeze.
“I suppose you’ll behave alright?? I don’t want to come home and find you being taken by peacekeepers.” I giggled and nod my head. “I will behave.” I say to her. She smiled again. Her features resembles mine, she’s like an older version of me, except for my dimples and ears. As I watch her disappear to the door, I ran back to my room and change my clothes.
I grab a v-neck gray shirt that my sister used to own and wear it. I slip on a pair of jeans and running boots, and lastly my leather jacket. I grab my messenger bag. Its brown color starts to fade though, but what I like about it is, its leather and its water resistant. The bag is quite old and a bit ripped off at some parts but I keep on sewing to pull it together. It actually belongs to my dad.
I look at Pine. “I’ll be back by lunch and I’ll try my best to look for nuts.” Pine jumps toward me and circles on to my neck. “I love you too.” I say. Then I leave her on my bed, and I left to the factories.
