I felt the water bob under us as Nick handled and sails. Every time a bigger wave came, my stomach dropped just like my body did at the dip of the wave. The man kept saying stuff I honestly didn't understand at all. Maybe it was because boats weren't really something that I ever fancied. Ah well. Here I am stuck on one. The girl across from me broke my daze once more, which must be a sign to stay with the program. "Hey, I'm Alexandria." She greeted me with a chipper voice. "I am Araminta Chaffee. You can call me Minty." I say, nicely because I didn't feel like making enemies.

Once I turned away for one quick moment I felt someone prodding my elbow gently. "Hey there." The short blonde haired boy said to me with a somewhat charming smile. Don't fall for the freaking charming smile, I tell myself because being emotionally wrapped up in someone slows you down. But of course I smile shyly back (don't ask me why) and reply with a small "Hi,"  I said a a started, fishing for my words. But all that cam to mind was me telling me to stop being a hopeless romantic. "Who are you?" I aak the boy, gaining my self confidence back. 

After I introduced myself, I prayed to God that they weren't Careers because if they would they would know my name. They wouldn't like me because I am aggressive and pretty much the girl to beat for any career. I groan in my head because that was the last thing I needed.

"I am Araminta Chaffee. You can call me Minty." she said happily. her name was pretty as well and suited her very nicely. I think I recognized her from some where now, at the training center I suppose, well I haven't heard much of her before, either she really wasn't that popular, or I was completely missing the target on her. Just as I was about to ask, the boy next to her cut into the conversation and nudged Araminta saying, "Hey there." I just shrugged off and turned facing the ocean.

I felt like it was practically my home, my only escape, so being on a boat and heading out was nice. I hadn't been out on a boat since the death of my brother and just the bouncing of the waves brought back the ill fated memories of my past. I closed my eyes and let the salty air sink into me. As I opened them, a wave hit the front sending a good amount of water drenching me. I couldn't help but laugh, I probably seemed like some idiot, but I didn't really care. I just let the waves carry us as I attempted drying myself from the cool ocean water.

The girl gives me a shy smile, something I'm quite used to. It's funny how well a smile can work if you know how to use it. I've manipulated girls as well as adults with my mouth alone - and I'm talking about my smile here, sicko - and I love it. "Hi. Who are you?" she says, clearly trying not to stutter over her words. I wonder what's got her so shy, unless maybe that's just her personality. She's beautiful, so I would expect her to be used to guys falling for her left and right.

"I'm Salem, Salem Lancove," I say, retaining my smile. I think I heard her say her name, but I wasn't really listening. So I ask, "I didn't catch your name, could you say it again?" Just then, a wave of water manages to splash into the boat, wetting most of us. The cold water makes my shirt cling to my back, forcing a small groan to come from the bottom of my throat. "Aaghh.." I attempt to pull my shirt back a little so it's not all clingy, but it's no use. You don't stay dry when you're out on the ocean.

Just by the expression on her face I can tell that the dark haired girl is starting to get sea sick already. If she doesn't know how to calm her stomach down she'll heave all over us so I shout over the wind. "Keep you eyes up, Minty. Focus on the islands and chew some of that ginger root. I toss her a piece of ginger, which I always keep on board because it works great against motion sickness.

Alexa and Salem seem much more at ease out here but I have the feeling that there's more to the boy than meets the eye. I know one of my kind when I see one and this bloke is not completely for real. The way he wears that smile is just not genuine. But I really don't care as long as he's paying his fare, which I will make damn sure off as I can easily take him. I've never had to take many beatings but was usually the one dishing them out. So I'm not worried about getting my money at the end of the trip.

As the first waves splashes my passengers and only Alexandria seems to enjoy it, I'm sure who's grown up on the water. Salems reaction puts a big smile on my face and I shake my head a little while I holler. "Just take your shirt off. You'll be drenched anyway."

The second and third wave follow suit. For about 20 minutes we head straight for the island when the wind quiets down a little but dark clouds are forming on the horizon. I watch the with respect and a little bit of worry. They are not travelling straight towards us but depending on how much bad weather is building up, we might catch the tail of it. I keep quiet about this because we could always stay on the island until the worst is over.

For now we still have blue skies above us and are only 5 minutes away from our first stop.
"Almost there...here you can just hang out for a bit and take a swim."

""Keep you eyes up, Minty. Focus on the islands and chew some of that ginger root." Nick says, as he tosses me a really messed up looking plant. Catching it without ease, I reluctantly analyze it before tossing it into my mouth. That was the worst thing I have ever done.  It was absolutely horrifying. My face turned more pale then normal, could feel it. "Oh shit. This is disgusting!" The bitter flavor filling up my mouth. I started to get used to it, and after that it was, still disgusting, but my stomach wasn't dropping with the alarming rate of the waves. 

I smile at Alexandria when a wave comes crashing down on her. She seemed like a free spirited chick with a lot of issues that she just hides behind her smile. Kind of like me, except I take it out by being a Career people fear. Which sort of makes us different.  

"I'm Salem, Salem ," The moment he said his name, the charming smile didn't really work on me anymore. Not that the fact that his name was the name of a place that hung people for witchcraft but that I knew who he was. He didn't know me but I knew him. That kid is the manipulator that lures girls into his trap and then gives them one hell of a time. And I mean hell a in NOT FUN. "Pleasure." I say, the attraction in my voice completely gone. "I didn't catch your name, could you say it again?" I rolled my eyes, in my head of course. "Araminta." I say simply. Come on, even Nick knows my name. 

When a wave splashes on me, my face wasn't mirroring Alexandria's smile. I was sort of a yelp of surprise and annoyance. I groaned, wringing out my hair as well as my shirt. That wasn't exactly heartwarming. So here I was, 30 minutes out of the shore a storm brewing and soaking wet with a womanizer, wanderer, Alex, and a girl who doesn't talk much. 

"Well, this is fun." I say, with my chin resting on my hand. "That's going to be a big problem Nick." I point out the storm clouds

Instantly, the shy girl I saw at first faded into a stern, sharp-commenting girl. "Pleasure," she says without an ounce of truth to her voice. I raise my eyebrow slightly. I don't know what got her so annoyed, but I shrug it off. "I didn't catch your name, could you say it again?" I ask.

"Araminta," she replies. I had just heard Nick call her Minty. Araminta, Minty. That makes sense, I guess. The name sounds oddly familiar. I peer at her for a moment, taking in her profile. Defined muscles, yet beautiful and girlish looking. Young. A look of power to her. All these traits can only equal one thing. The realization hits me when we're hit by the stupid wave. "Minty" wrings out her hair and shirt as Nick advises me to take mine off. I guess he's right, it's not gonna get any dryer any time soon. I peel it off and toss it next to my feet, secure in a nook of the boat. Araminta points out a large realm of dark clouds out in the distance, and I frown. Well this can't turn out well.

I look at Minty with a sympathetic look on her face as she chews the plant. I used to always have it by my side when I was little on a boat, I got so sea sick, luckily, I grew out of it. The others don't seem to be enjoying the waves as much as me, I guess they didn't get out into the ocean too much. I look at Nick with an amused face as the waves cause annoyance out of the others. "They aren't that bad are they? The waves? I mean, were in District four. Your gonna get wet."

I say with a truthful face. I shrug and notice the wind has died down, then i see the dark clouds ahead. My father and brother always taught me about clouds and the ocean, they knew it was important. By the looks of it, those did not look good. Especially the storms at this time of the year. They were most likely lightning storms, with a good amount of wind waiting to break loose on an unsuspecting craft. I get p and walk over to Nick, my face a bit concerned. "We can't out run those, that's a storm, and a bad one." I say quietly, but enough for him to hear so the others don't worry. It's the last thing I, we need, a bunch of panicked people.

"They could be. Let's see which way they are heading. We might just get a few drops of rain...if at all." I assure my passengers as I direct the ship towards the smallest of three islands.
Soon the waves die down in the wind shadow of the island. It has a nice sandy beach and is covered with large , old trees. A few seaguls greet us as we approach the shore.

Just like before I hand Salem the paddle and pull down the sail. The last few meters we have to paddle before I jump into the shallow water and pull the boat the rest of the way until I can tie it to a small Iron hook, that somebody has put into one of the few rocks for this purpose.

"I'd say we stay here for an hour or two before we set over to the other island. Enjoy yourself."
While my passengers climb off board I secure all the little things, like my fins and water bottles, that could be washed over board in bad weather. Then I follow them onto the beach, where I start heading into the shallow water to spear for some cod for dinner.

Personally, deep down inside I felt a little guilty for being kind of cold to Salem all at once. And I could tell by the look on his face he was quite surprised about how my admiration turned to neglect  as quick as he said his name. As he analyzes me I give him a smile, except I didn't know if it was a nice smile or a 'What the he'll are you analyzing my for' sort of smile. All I know I is that it was a smile. 

Alexandria makes a comment about getting wet and how it's expected and I have to totally agree with that one. I mean, we were on a boat but the initial surprise of it all wasn't something I well, expected. "So, what does everyone like to do?" I ask, itching for a conversation starter. 

Nick docks the boat and starts to fish. I expect we are allowed to do any explore the little island so I do. Jumping out the side of the boat my already soaked shoes take a plunge once more in the shallow end of the water. I can't help but wonder if this was exactly legal or not but since when do I care. It wasn't exactly paradise, but as close as I was gonna get.

Minty starts up a conversation right when Nick hands me a paddle, so I shrug off her comment and go over to my area to help Nick. Before long, we're at the shore and Nick is letting us run off and play. That terms sounds a little bit too happy for the situation, actually. Who knows what we're gonna be doing on this island, and with that storm coming... I have a bad feeling in my gut. But, there's no going back now, and I did tell myself I wanted this, right?

Everyone's getting off the boat as Nick is prepping in the boat, so I jump out and kick some sand around casually. Then I look up, past my fellow passengers who are now walking up the beach, and inspect the island. Sand, for one thing. Several yards in front of me is a small cliff, about a ten or fifteen foot drop. The top extends several feet over the wall below it, like a small roof. I wonder how I can get up there. The rock face doesn't look fit for climbing, so maybe there's a way around it. On top are more rocks, several tall, skinny trees, and some dried up shrubbery. Not exactly peaceful and inviting, but I need something to do. Looking to my left and right, I see the cliff's face ends sooner on my left, so I head that way in hopes of finding something exciting.

As we travel along the increasingly rough waves, the island came more into my sight of vision. A bit scraggly with the vegetation, but the sand was almost pink, dotted with white spots of sand. That was breath taking. Before the water was shallow enough for me to walk up to the beach, I dove off the side and popped p to see the others wait for the boat to dock. I rolled my eyes and swam to shore admiring the bright corals underneath the waves. It was unlike anything I see along the coast of District four. I walk up the beach and start to wonder along the coast line of the island as the others explore. The water a turquoise, my favorite color. Luckily, the clouds hadn't caught up on us and the sun was shining strong.

I came to a cliff wall, one in which the boy, Salem was admiring and watch as he walks to the other side finding a way to climb. I think the opposite and walk out to the front of it, finding almost a stair case of rocks leading to the top. I snicker at the boy and start climbing them up the sheer wall of rock, careful not to slip on algae and fall. I wondered where that came from, the algae, I just assumed it was low tide and the water came up to the rocks during high tide. it was common. Hopefully, if were here long enough, and if it's deep enough, I could go cliff diving. Always wanted to do that, there will come a day I guess.

Every rock I grab or step upon, I watch closely making sure no animal was under it waiting to bite me. It took about ten minutes to get to the top, not too bad. I pull myself up the last bit with my arms onto the over hang. I take a deep breath and sit high above the crystal waters and breath in the salty air once more. It was so refreshing. i could see where the coral reefs were from up here. They formed a barrier around the island with the exception of a small opening where we paddled through. i turned my head and gazed upon nick, who was sitting lazily fishing, and Minty who just seemed to be exploring. I wondered how far the boy had gotten by now, or if he even found a way. Sometimes, you just have to think differently.

I kick some pink sand up with my feet, it sticking to my calves as I walk to no where really. Salem went into the woods somewhere and Alexandria was observing everyone from the cliff she just climbed. My wet hair trickled down my back and I almost shivered even though it was so hot out. It hadn't rained for a long time and that storm look promising yet very dangerous. 

I decided to do the exact same thing Alexandria did and climb the rock wall. One by one I quickly climbed the wall. Once I reach the top I smile, pulling myself up. "Mind if I join you?" I ask. "I kind of got bored down there." I state, pointing to the beach and water below us.

I turn the corner and come upon a large expanse of rocks. Big, small, tan, all shades of gray. They run along the left side of the big cliff thing, which, now that I look at it, is more of a plateau. I'm determined to find a way up. I climb over the rocks, keeping my eye out for some way to climb the wall. It's not possible to climb the side of it without slipping and cracking my head open on the rocks below. As I travel along the side, I notice a thin layer of sand covering all the rocks. I feel my brow furrow as I ponder over this. Low tide. That would make sense. The water probably rises at night and covers everything. These rocks, the beach, and rises up the sides of the plateau. Which would mean we'd have to get there or leave to avoid being stuck in the water during a storm.

Forgetting about it for now, I continue along the side of the cliff's face. I allow my mind to wander as to avoid overthinking and stressing myself. I'd like to at least enjoy this trip a little bit. I know I didn't come here for nothing. I'm thinking about ways to improve my nets when I notice something. Large, almost square boulders lining the side of the cliff. The rocks lying on the sand have diminished now, with just a few smaller ones here and there. I observe the rocks, and realize they're perfect for getting to the top of the island. Almost like steps. I hurriedly climb up, longing for something else to do. But, really I don't know why I was so excited. It's boring up here. More rocks, some scraggly trees, a small cave-looking structure. I continue to my right, heading in the direction of the boat. Quickly, I come to the area that I had seen when we first arrived. Only, there's people up on top looking down at the beach. Minty. And the other girl, whose name I think is Alexandria or something. I consider leaving them alone, since I'm not really sure how great of terms Minty and I are on since the boat ride. I'm just turning to walk away when my foot accidentally kicks a cluster of small rocks off the side of the cliff. Great, now they've heard you.

I switch my wait back and forth from each leg once I stood up, trying to settle my jelly legs from just climbing up all the rocks so fast.  I should really steady myself into things instead of being so aggressive and doing. Before I could say anything else, something made a noise and I whipped around being the paranoid career I am.

I turn around to face the noise. Salem. Of course, the little sneak. "Were you spying on us?" I ask, raising my eye brows. "If you wanted to hang out with us you could of just said something." I said, grabbing a pebble and chucking it as far as I could. Watching it was it soared over the beach and the tiniest plunk I smiled. I did have a pretty good arm if I do say so myself.

For a while I wade through knee high turquois water with my spear in my hand. Occasionally I see fish worth going after. I freeze with the spear in my raised fist and throw it as soon as the cod stays in one spot long enough. After 15 minutes I have one larger and one smaller fish in a bucket on the beach.

At first I take off my short to start snorkeling for some more but then I stop for a moment because I feel a cooler breeze on my skin. My blue eyes search the horizon to see how the weather is developing. The clouds have become darker and are traveling straight towards our island. "Shit." I mutter under my breath. If the maintain their speed they'll reach us fairly soon and there is little to no shelter on this island with it's few trees and no caves or houses.

With my bucket in hand I quickly make my way up the beach to summon up my passengers, who have spread out over the beach and rock face.
"Come on down!" I yell up at the two, who have made their way up to the top of the cliff.
Then I wave at the girlw who are sitting on the beach.

Because the weather has not made it's way away from us, as expected, but is coming closer fast I know that we need some shelter soon but sailing back to the main land is not an option because it would take us too long.
With my hand above my eyes I look over to the next island. From experience I know that it has a denser forest and a few hunting huts made of logs, that would make for a great shelter.
So i decide to hop over to that island with my guests before the weather hits us.

"Everybody, pack it up real fast. There's a storm heading straight towards us. We need to get over to the bigger island for shelter. Hurry up!"
While I trust that everybody has heard me and is following my orders I make my way back to the boat in a hurry, which is rocking back and forth in the waves. Clinking noises give away the that the sail is not safely secured.

I hop on board and throw my shirt in a corner because I'm in a hurry to untie the rope and pull it in. With my paddles in hand I wait for everybody and wonder whether they have seen the kind of bad weather that is approaching us.
Nervously I step on the top of the cabin and yell. "C'mon, pick up your feet!" and shoot another glance towards the dark clouds.
