“You can’t take guard duty like that. Here,” Iris reaches into her pack to take out her t-shirt. “Put this on under your jacket to keep warm, and I’ll trade those socks for my gloves. There. Now you can keep watch in a semi-respectable fashion.” She says. I'm not so sure at first. I mean, they are her items, but then I finally give in and agree. Suddenly, out of the corner of my eye, I see something silvery. I turn a bit, and see a silver parachute descending from the sky. My mouth drops. We rush to the parachute and look to see what is in store for us today. It reminds me of opening gifts on Christmas, waiting to see what mystery is inside. The silver parachute contains four long birch boards, a throwing knife, and a blanket. I smile a huge smile and laugh with happiness. Iris spins me in a circle and we continue laughing. We both carry the items and bring them inside our shelter. I know we are going to use the birch boards as skiis, so I'm glad we have those, and I know the throwing knife will probably come in handy, and the blanket too, especially.
We both decide to get to work in the morning, and I agree to stay on guard. I insist that Iris uses the blanket. I promise her I'm fine with the t-shirt, gloves, and earmuffs and she needs to use it. Besides, her mentor sent it. Once she is asleep, I stay up, staring into the cold darkness of the night, listening to the noises. Time passes and I start to wonder where the other tributes are. I hadn't seen the faces in the sky on the first night. I had missed it. For a fact, I know Ralph is dead, and Senia. I'm also pretty sure Dalton is gone. I had saw him at the bloodbath, but never after that. I can only wonder, is Colton alive? I hope so. I quietly exit the shelter and sit underneath the stars for a bit. There's so many things I start to wonder, but I try to erase them from my mind. I do, and I reenter the shelter again.
