Isn’t this what I wanted? Then why do I feel like crap? She just had to use the “I’ll fight for my life, while you do nothing about it” card! Great! Now Mia felt obligated to help, she honestly wanted to support Brooke, but she was smart enough to know when to back out of a situation. And this was definitely a situation that was leading to mayhem. “Brooke, I’m here for you, I’m not going anywhere. Somehow I got into the middle of this, and I never start something I can’t finish, if I like it or not.” She shot a Brooke a smile, but Brooke was too busy rummaging through the unlocked medicine cabinet, to even notice her. “What are you doing?” Mia’s question was answered as soon as Brooke picked up the syringe filled with Zioxidine. Even though Brooke was at the opposite corner of the room, Mia could tell it was Zioxidine. It was death in liquid form, something you could never really forget. It was so distinct. Unlike most medication, Zioxidine was more of a creamy pearl than just clear, and the needle was thicker, and longer than most. She didn’t need Brooke to explain, she was capable of putting two and two together. “Put down the lethal medicine. When I said you need to handle this, I didn’t mean killing the b@st@rd!” But before Mia could reason with her, the locked door burst’s open. Eric ran in swinging his club at Brooke. Mia stood in the corner of surgery room, ducking behind the surgery bed, paralyzed from fear. How was he managing to keep finding them? Mia watched the fight, Brooke was about to stab Eric, sending him to his death. “STOP!! DON’T KILL HIM! It’s not worth it!” For once, Brooke actually listened to her. After injecting a quarter of the syringe into his neck she pulled out. It was just enough to make him pass out for a few hours. After making sure he was really passed out, Brooke called the police. Mia was still unable to move, she just witnessed a murder attempt. Brooke jumped onto Mia, pulling her into an unbreakable embrace. Blood was slowing rushing back to her head, she was beginning to remember how to think.
Cops were rushing in turning the little surgery room into a crime scene. They arrested Eric bringing him to the west wing, were as soon as he woke up would be rushed to jail. The cops were babbling to themselves and asking idiotic and pointless question to Mia when she heard a thud. Brooke was passed out on the floor. Something went off in Mia, instincts she never knew she had before. Maybe there was hope of becoming a doctor one day....
Mia dropped to her knees searching for a pulse. 60...57...43...32... Her heart rate was dropping fast. Mia ripped off her clothes trying to find the cause. And there it was, dug into the back of left leg. The deadly syringe. It was empty. Somehow, during the fight she must have somehow injected herself with the rest of the Zioxidine. If Mia didn’t fix this now, Brooke would be dead in less than 15 minutes. In an assertive voice she didn’t know she possessed till now, she got the room full of noisy cops to shut up and pay all their attention on her. “Listen, you can ask the rest of you question later, right now if we don’t take Brooke to the ER she’ll die. Okay, you guys are all trained with basic EMT, right?” She pointed to cop closest to her. “ Take her to the ER, fast! Get her all ready for me, okay? I need to get some medication. I’ll be there in a minute“ The cop did what he was told, and start sprinting towards the ER.
Mia threw open the medicine cabinet, not caring what she messed up, or broke in the process. Helping Brooke was the only thing she cared about. She found the syringe she needed, Zanamivir. This would slow down the spread of the Zioxidine, hopefully in time to let, Lovaza, the second drug, do its job. If she did this correctly, it would cleanse the body of all the drugs in her system. If she could found it... “Shit! Where the hell is it?!?” Mia screamed out loud. Time was running out, she started looking through the third cabinet. Were they out? That was impossible, they couldn’t be. Mia was about to lose hope when she found it. She would have to remember to complain to the hospital administrator on how disorganized everything was, but not now. She only had one thing on her mind. She ran as fast as her legs would go, ignoring all the scowls people were giving her. She need reach Brooke. Hopefully it wasn’t too late.
Mia reached Brooke, she looked at the heart monitor. 28. It was slowing down every second. Mia stabbed both needles into Brooke. Praying it would work. After the medication was probably injected, she sat down in the chair beside Brooke and took her hand, praying that it would work. Books could never teach you this. You had to rely on instinct, and hopefully her instinct did the right thing.
