It was obvious now, that he liked her.As he laughed, she laughed along with him in that joyous, exuberant way of hers that was so beautiful. It would make even the coldest of people..like him,for example, want to jump around the trees in pure joy.Even with the short time he'd been with her,had it only been a few hours? He had felt himself changing from a cold-hearted,hard-working person who felt a billion years old inside,to the happy, curious teenager, who had a whole life ahead of him, that he should have been all along. There was no other reason, either.
He could blame Lunaria, then.Everything about her had drawn him out of his shell and actually made him happy. The way she laughed was contagious, the way she smiled was stunning, and the way her face lit up when he smiled was enough to make him laugh. It didn't sound like much, but as she probably knew, when he laughed,it was a serious event.
Few times had he laughed in his entire life, and most of them had actually been today.Maybe, when he was younger and naive,he might have been happy and excited. That was so long ago, though, that he could hardly remember.Had he been happy? His parents couldn't have possibly been sick that long ago,so maybe he had been.
Turning his attention back to Lunaria,he waits to see what she was to say about his slightly embarassing words.Would she not like him?Was she just some girl that he talked to,one day while he was working? Was it going to be that way?
He looked over at her with a hopeful, curious expression, glancing at her face with a hope that he could detect a hint of satisfaction there, just something to calm his worried mind. There were many thoughts that seemed to pass over her face, and he could tell them easily enough, from the way her pretty eyes sparkled with the feelings that she had.
At first, she seemed surprised, then her expression turned to an extreme happiness that made his own face light up.The color of her cheeks changed from a light pink to the deepest of reds.Although he didn't think that she was embarassed. He doubted that she could even be embarassed. It was as if the embarassment just flowed off of her, away from her,and into his own mind. His own face was contorted into a warm half-smile,and his cheeks matched the color of her own, although his eyes were so bright with happiness that it seemed they could shine brighter then the sun,for a moment.
He kept his steadfast gaze on her as she sat there, speechless for a second, until she finally said a simple."Thanks."It seemed, now, that as she looked straight at his face, and then looked away, that she was overwhelmed. He doubted, though, that she that much.
She then continued in her voice that was so soft and sincere, any hint of hurt or worry immediately left his mind."That's such a sweet thing to say."The statement itself was imperfect, but spoken with the gentle, warm tones of her voice and mixed with the feelings that she had written across her face,he accepted it.
With that, she reached over and grabbed his hand, but he didn't move his hand away now.He twisted his fingers around hers and his crooked smile grew wider as he replied.
"Are you as surprised as I am?"
