I obeyed him and I decide to turn on my back and float. I try to ignore the coldness biting into my skin and making my skin feel numb. I simply try my hardest to relax, I was taught how to swim, I was taught how to float on my back as normal and keep my breathing fine. I stretch my arms out and I go into a star fish position. I feel absolutely fine now, I feel relaxed and I feel confident. It’s kind of ironic really. Before I was freaking out about drowning and dying but now I feel fine, relaxed, deep in thought. Of course this isn’t a laughing matter but at least I can relax for now.

Hmm I wonder what he’s thinking of doing to try and rescue me. Is he going to get a net or something? I hope he’s as good a swimmer as me, if not then we’re probably screwed... Those are the thoughts running through my mind. However they are surprisingly calm, they aren’t panicked or rushed. It’s as if I’m thinking in a test or something. I kick a few times with my legs to get closer to Genisis to make things a little easier for him. “So did you get any fish yet?!” I ask jokingly. Admittedly this isn’t the time to be joking around but what the hell right?

I wonder why he cares so much. Why does he care so much? If he wanted he could just swim back to his boat and paddle away. I was sort of an idiot for following him anyway. Maybe he’s saving me because he feels obliged? Maybe he’s saving me because he’s just a nice person? I’ll have to ask him if I eventually get on a boat and safely away from here. All I can do is wait. All I can do it pray to whoever is watching over me that Genisis manages to get the boat.[/size][/font]

The water is dark, and it's kind of scary, but I'm not afraid of the sea. I look down where the bottom of the sea should be, but I see nothing. It's dark, and I feel lost. I don't know what to do. I can feel my heart pounding under my chest. My stomach is suddenly full of butterflies, a feeling I've never had before. I might actually die here. I continue to look around, and I can't spot a single fish. I was so stupid to come fishing in this, but I had to prove I was the best fisher around, and look where this got me. I'm caught under the raging sea fighting for my life in the midst of a storm. I remember when I was younger my father would take me fishing. He showed me what I needed to do. He showed me how to thrust the trident into the sea and catch fish. He showed me how to cast the net into the sea. He showed me everything I needed to know about fishing; however, he never taught me what to do if my boat flipped, or if I was ever caught in a storm. I guess he wanted me to learn that for myself in case a situation like this ever happened. I've been in this situation before. I was with my mother. We got caught in the storm. The boat flipped causing her to almost drown. I have a scar that will last me forever. I lost part of my finger. Enough! I think to myself. Surface! I start kicking my feet and pushing myself towards the top. I will not let myself drown here defeated like a helpless child. I will not die here. I keep kicking my feet as hard as I can. My lungs start screaming begging me for oxygen. I can hold my breath for a while, but I've been under the water for quite a bit. My muscles are aching and not wanting to work. I can feel adrenaline starting to surge through my veins as the fear of death sinks to the front of my mind. I keep pushing myself more than I ever thought was possible. My mind races as the dark sea becomes slightly lighter. I know I'm close to the top. I keep going and finally I'm free. My head breaks through. I open my mouth coughing and gasping for air. The world around me starts spinning, but I force myself to calm down. I turn over and float on my back for a few minutes allowing myself to relax. I need all my senses to calm down. I close my eyes, and it becomes possible I could go to sleep when I remember Flint. He's still out here in the sea somewhere, and I have to find him. I open my eyes and look around realizing I'm right next to a boat. (I don't care if the boat is mine or not because I'm taking it.) I slowly swim towards the boat fighting the waves. I toss my trident inside and slowly climb in. It takes a miracle though because of the raging sea. "So did you catch any fish yet?" I don't know why, but this cuts straight through me causing anger to surge through my veins. I know he's trying to lighten the mood, but I'm cold. I'm chilled to the bone. My thin layer of clothes aren't doing much to keep me warm. I can't do much because I'm shivering. "I don't have anything to show for it." I call out over the deafening waves. "I'm coming. I'll be there as soon as I can!" I use my trident to steer the boat in the direction of flint. The waves make it near impossible to steer, but I won't let them defeat me. I will win. I will save Flint and myself. I will get back to the shore alive. You may think you have beaten me, but today I will destroy you. Bitterness. Coldness. That’s all I’m feeling now. The full effects of the coldness are starting to take effect on me. The water simply seeps over my face and through my clothes. Just when I think I’ve started to get used to the coldness, the bitterness, the cold water biting at my skin it suddenly gets worse. Why does it always get worse? Why does it hurt? Why do I feel so numb? Why do I feel like the sea wants to swallow me whole? I thought the sea was my home, I thought it was my sanctuary, I thought it was my friend. We were like allies, we were like best friends. I used to fish in the sea every day.

What happened Sea? Why did you turn on me today? Why had the sea seemed to turn on me today? Had he done something bad? Was the sea just in a bad mood? Was it because he fished in it too often? I had never believed the saying ’The sea is a dangerous mistress...’ Throughout my whole life he simply ignored that saying. In my experience the sea had been nice to him. It had never tipped my boat, never tried to drown me, it always gave me the fish he needed. So why now? What had I done wrong?

All I could do is wait, watch. Simply look at the sky. If there was some sort of divine entity out there then why wouldn’t they help me? There had to be a way for me to be saved. Genisis was taking long. I was shivering. I had a feeling I would get hypothermia after this. I could only worry about that considering I didn’t drown first. I kick forward a little bit, Genisis needed to hurry up. If he didn’t I could surely die and my family would be devastated. I had to survive. I had to survive.

I'm attached to strings and the sea is my master controlling the strings. It's controlling my every movement. It throws me to the left, and I go flying to the left. It throws me to the right, and I go flying to the right. I can't control myself. I don't know what to do. The sea is about to consume me, and I'm stuck to a string unable to move. I stare at the raging sea frozen trying to master the movements my master wants me to. The ropes are wrapped around me so tight I'm under the sole control of the sea. Just let me go. I'll be good I promise. I reach the trident into the sea against it's wishes, and I steer the small boat in the direction of Flint. It's my fault he's out here. It's my fault he decided to go fishing, and I'm not going to let this kid die today. I can feel the strings pull against my arms, but I fight them. I can't let these strings control me. I know what I have to do, and there's nothing that will stop me. (Ok, well maybe the boat flipping would stop me, but it would only be temporary.) I keep willing my strength to steer through the sea, but it's near impossible as the waves crash down upon me. The sea is fighting me, and I won't let it win. I can't let it win. Today is mine to win. "Flint, I'm coming just hang on!" I almost laugh at myself. What's he supposed to hang on to? I move the trident through the sea as fast as my arms will allow. I can slowly feel myself tiring out. Sweat, or water, I'm not sure which, drips off my brow. I try to focus my mind on my mission, but it's not doing well. This tiny boat is filling quickly with water becoming heavier. I can hear the sea laughing at me as I try to pull against the hold it has on me. The sea is laughing, begging me to fail, but I have something to do. "Sea, you need to depart from me. You can't win today." I look around trying to spot him, and I find him. I quickly turn the trident in his direction. I can feel myself shivering under the thin layer of clothing I have on. My teeth are chattering uncontrollably. My whole body is going numb. I can barely hold on to the trident, but I must not give up. I fight with the remaining strength to hold on. The tiny boat rocks back and forth trying to change directions. The little control I have isn't working well. (You should try steering a boat with a trident.) I fight against the sea as the waves crash hard upon me. My eyes are burning from all the water splashing into them causing everything to seem blurry. This could easily be the end of me. Finally, after paddling through the raging sea with a trident, I reach the spot where Flint is. I don't know how I'm going to get him. I haven't actually planned that out. I search through the boat hoping a net will be inside of it, but I knew there wouldn't be, so I have no idea why I even looked. I search through my brain thinking of ideas trying to figure out a way to fish Flint out of the sea as I fight against the strings the master has on me. You are smarter than this. Think Genesis think! I slowly paddle the boat closer to him. I grab the prog end of the trident and toss it out into the sea and hold on as tight as I can to the handle part. "Flint, grab hold of the trident, and I'll try to pull you into the boat!" I yell over the waves hoping this will work. This is it. The final stand, the final chance to save myself. I’m trying to fight the water from seeping into my mouth, into my lungs. I’m keeping my body afloat pretty well, it’s pretty easy when you think about it. All you have to do is just lay there. I’m not the best swimmer in my class but I’m certainly really good! Everyone from district 4 is excellent at swimming after all but this sea is just too much. It’s trying to swallow me whole, it’s trying to sweep me away and drown me into a bliss, eternal silence. Simply drowning in the raging storm, just like that, that seems pretty peaceful doesn’t it?

No...

Not yet. I don’t want to. I don’t want to die. I have a mother and stepfather who loves me with all their hearts. I have a brother who needs me. I can’t leave them now! That would simply be selfish of me. I can’t allow that to happen. I wont allow that to happen! Suddenly I hear his voice. Finally he came to save me! Flint, grab hold of the trident, and I'll try to pull you into the boat!I hear him scream, I can tell he’s desperate for this to work, so he will stop running out of ideas. I simply sigh as I turn on my front and grab the trident. He then puls me in over the boat, I gasp as he cough a few times.

Oh and I feel great. The feeling when I hit the wood of the boat, free from the icy clutches of the sea. I almost cry out loud when I try to desperately stop my shaking. I need to stop shivering, it’s just such a relief, I feel great. I feel freedom again, I feel like I’m going to actually live. It was a shame I lost my fish however. I only manage to mutter two words and two words only to the boy who just saved my life.
