I had to admit, I really don't shop here. I was only in this certain boutique when I get my sisters gifts for their birthdays. It was a boutique with intersting clothes and smells probably from outside district or maybe even the capitol. It was a rare treat Marlie or I could get something from here. The smells of flowers and different herbs welcomed be as I stepped in after Marlie. Some of the girl perfumes together smelled sickening but all the colonges smelled relatively the same. I walkde over to the girls counterrr and took a wiff of one called 'forget me not'. I smiled to myself quickly as teh rush of flowers filled my senses. What a silly name for a perfume.

I was quickly brought back to realtiy when I got a cool scent spritzed in my face. Marlie giggled as she yelled surprise. I crunch my face up, laughing along with her. I spray her back with the one I was holding. Two could play this game. "Gotcha back Marlie!" I say. I turn to put the perfume back as Marlie motions for me to follow her.

She leads me to the shirt section and grabs a very eye catching shirt. She would look very good in it. "Of course you can." I say when she asks me if she can try on a couple things. I take a hat of a desply and put it on my head, modeling in the mirror. "I look absoultly terrible in this hat."

I couldn't help but blush when Marlie disagreed with me, saying I was adorable. Thats something I can expect for Marlie. Either way, she's going to think I am what she calls 'cute.' I accepted that as a good thing. As I was modeling in the mirror with the hat when it disappeared from my head and a more fashionable one appeared. After she modeled a fringed shirt she changed the hat on my head to more of a stylish one. It was a fedora style and it reminded me of the capitol more of less. When ever I shop for clothes I wonder what the Capitolites where because they were at the top of fine living. Their unnatural skin and hair dye were such an oddity here in the district.

Once Marlie went through everything, she finally decided she had enough to actually try on. She held a pile of clothes in her hands. I took some as she ask me a question but I shook my head. "Nahh, nothing really. Maybe I will get that Cool Waters cologne." I tease, following her to the dressing room and putting her clothes down. Just like Marlie I managed not to notice a familiar face peering into the door. I wasn't really focused on my surroundings, I was more focused on Marlie and how I couldn't believe I was standing here with Marlie in a relationship that we were in. I never knew I could admit that I loved her. It had just been too hard until now. Maybe it was because she had enough nerve to say it first.

"I hope you found enough stuff you like. I know you didn't bring in a lot of stuff." I call to her from outside the dressing room in a teasing manner. I saw a glimpse of a face before it slipped away out of my view. It left me confused but I chose to ignore it.

Marlie went into the dressing room a moment before she poke her head out of the door frame to comment to my remark. "Really, Rex? Because I'm pretty sure you took half my pile for a reason." I laughed, leaning against the door frame to look into her eyes. "Oh yes because I would look great in this!" I say holding up a floral print skirt to my waist before lightly throwing it in her face. I smile as she shuts the door to finish changing into an outfit.

As Marlie tried on her new clothes I took a seat outside her changing room and thought about how it took 11 years to realize she was the one for me. I remember us making old movies together in the back yard and playing in the scares trees in our neighborhood. All the times she spent dinner at our house because she didn't want to go back to her own house. It came to mind that Pandora didn't know about this yet. I wondered how she would take it because after all she was friends with her.

Before I could finish my thoughts Marlie busts out of the changing room with a funny outside because of her shoes and tights. Over all though, she looks fabulous because she always looked beautiful in my eyes. I laugh getting up from my seat and walking over to her and inspected her. "Yes, very sexy." I smile pulling her towards me and kissing her. Then I saw the face again.

Her vision blurred and her thoughts became hazy as she melted into the kiss. So this was love. Marlie's arms snaked around Rex's shoulders, and she slowly let her weight fall into his arms. Suddenly she forgot where she was, what she was doing and where she needed to be. A kiss. It was such a simple thing. Yet so complex. All you had to do was press your lips against someone else and basically it felt like your whole body did a jump start. I never felt so happy until I knew what it was like to kiss Marlie. Usually boys think of kissing movie stars or the prettiest girl in school but who knew that prettiest girl in school happened to be Marlie? I was happy that it turned out to be her. Because when I kissed her, my stomach turned and usually I would pull away. Except I wanted more. I felt like I forgot everything in the simple movement because when she let her body melt into mine I forgot where I was. It took her simple to wrap her arms around my shoulders and I forgot everything. Where we were didn't matter was long as I was with her.

When she pulled away, I sighed and just smiled to myself. I couldn't believe this was happening to me. She backed into the dressing room as my thoughts came back to me. School started soon and honestly I didn't have any desire to go today. Usually I did because I got to see my friends but I had Marlie and she was my best friend. The hallways were always so crowded and this shop wasn't. I could think of a million reasons why right now was better then school but I had to go. So did Marlie. When she told me to wait at the front ofthe store, I sighed because I would rather wait for her. But I said ok and walked up to the front of the store. Then the face came into mind. I looked out the window to see a figure running away and quickly turn their head around to look at me. I couldn't make out who it was but they were defiantly my age. And they were defiantly the face I saw in the window looking in on me.

Before I could think about it anymore Marlie came out struggling with the pile of clothes. I rushed over to her aid and payed for the ones that she wanted and threw the other clothes on the counter. The lady was smiling at us and thanked us for our buyings. She was nice enough to offer to put the rest of the clothes back so we could get to school on time. As we leave the shop, I was glad that I made Marlie's life a little easier. "Let's go." I say taking the bag in one hand and her hand in the other.

We walk and the school comes into view. I stop into my tracks. "I would be happier not there." I say as I see my sisters walk into the school. I smile as each of the little ones climb the steps until Pandora brings up the rear of the Vanderbilt girls. I catch Pandora's eye.

"Well then, it looks like the rumors are true. About time you figured out you were meant for each other." Marlie had to relay Pandora's words back in her mind several times before it sank in. "Wait," she said, slowly untangling her fingers from Rex's. "What do you mean, 'the rumors are true'? It's impossible for everyone to have found out already." Pandora shook her head. "Gossip Gianna has been awfully busy this morning. She saw you guys kissing in that boutique in the square. She made it her sole duty to spread the news everywhere. People were talking about you two blocks away!" she exclaimed. Marlie narrowed her eyes, crossing her arms. "Oh." Of course there would be a problem when she started dating Rex. It never failed. People were just so fascinated with her and felt like conjuring up stories about her for the sake of entertaining themselves, and making her skin crawl. Rex would flip out. And no matter how long she had dealt with the lies and the tall tales, she would always be bothered by her peers. Gianna was basically the queen of gossip. Time to settle the score. Marlie put her hand in Rex's, taking a deep breath. "I'm going to find Gianna. The rumors stop now. I'm sick of her trying to undermine me, and Rex, and even you, Pandora. I don't mind being the talk of the school, but being mocked? That's a totally different story." She squeezed Rex's hand tighter, looking into his eyes. Smiling slightly at Marlie's reply I wish I could get bribed with food right now. I was quite hungry. I remember how Marlie last year would refuse to go to school so I would bake and Pandora would lure her out of bed with their sweet smell. I watched Pandora tell something to Juniper before she hurried her way over to Marlie and I. She was right. She thought we would be perfect for each other along time ago. I can just look about on those days were I would cry when she told me we were in love. Mother would just laugh like she didn't have a side. BUt she probably was siding with Pandora half the time. I didn't have to say anything before she commented on us being together.

I have a twin named Pandora. She is basically my best friend I am hers even though we both don't want to admit it. She looks like me except her eyes are more silver like my mother while mine are a ice blue. I will admit one thing though, we are a interesting pair of twins. We are different and the same in many ways. Pandora is a greek name and mine is Spanish. Why on earth did I have to get stuck with the Spanish name? Pandora's is full of beauty, it's like a goddess or something. She really lives up to her names. I don't even look spanish. I am named after my grandfather who might be spanish I am not sure. I like the name Jacob thought. I wish it was my name. But I can't change my name so the next best thing was Rex. Which sounds a lot better then Reyes.

Pandora spoke and I had to laugh until I realized there were already rumors. Why did everything have to result in rumors? Something I hated about school was the rumors. It was just annoying and petty if you ask me. I groan. "Gianna will be the death of me." She was the queen bee of everything gossip. She will make things up and will be the first to hear about the new scoop of the school. That girl causes so many issues with people I was dreading the day she made something up about me. TOday was that day. "They must be flying fast considering you heard about them and you just got to school." I say to Pandora with a smile and an eye roll thrown in there.

Pandora nodded her brown hair bouncing in her pony tail. "I am going to take half credit for knowing this was going to happen sooner or later." She said punching me in the arm. I stuck my tongue out at her. Marlie begins to rant about Gianna and she was basically saying everything I was thinking. Pandora took a step back putting her palms up in a blocking motion. "I am not going to stop you. Finally the time she gets what she deserves."

I groan. My friends were going to be attacking me with questions. I hope I can survive the day. Because drama was something I hate. The school bell rung and I watched as Lily with her little 6 year old friends ran into the other younger children building. "Welcome to hell." I mutter.

Marlie smirked as some members of the crowd began to disperse, startled by Pandora's words. She wasn't the most powerful girl in school, but she was capable of ruining your day if she tried. "Thanks, Pan," she sighed. "Have you seen Halcyon or Hyacinth at all?" Pandora crinkled her nose. "Hya is with her boyfriend of the week. It's Friday, so she'll dump him after a makeout session or something. Hallie is at her locker. She wants to talk to you." Pandora then turned to Rex, calmly meeting his stormy eyes. "I hate to break up the lovefest, but we have to get to algebra. You know how Mr. Madsen gets when we're even a second late. Come on." She linked her arm through her brother's, pulling him away from Marlie, who reluctantly detached herself from his body. "Bye," she called weakly. It was a word she had said to him more times than she could count. Now, saying it again was like torture. She had kept all her feelings and secrets harbored inside of her for all these years. She had finally come to terms with herself and admitted she had loved him. And now, even if he would only be gone for an hour, it pained Marlie to say goodbye to Rex. "So, the dance is coming up." Marlie looked up at Halcyon, who held a flyer for the annual school formal in her hand. "Yeah, I guess it is," she said drily, eyeing the excessive punctuation and flashy colors in disgust. Hyacinth lazily leaned against her locker, smacking her gum loudly. "So, you're not going this year, Marlie? So tragic that you don't have a boyfriend." Marlie raised an eyebrow, preparing to give Hyacinth the same tired response she delivered every year. "Of course I'm going. I don't need a date. What's really tragic is someone that can't be alone. I don't have that problem." But now, it seemed, she did have that problem. It must've been that she had kept her feelings for Rex bottled up inside of her for the past eleven years, because though they'd only been officially together for two hours, it was safe to say that she craved his company right now. There were crushes, and then there was love, where you were afraid to part with the person because you didn't know if they would come back to you. These feelings were nagging at her as she walked down the hallway, where the last stragglers were gathering all their books and materials for class. Marlie tried to catch Gianna's attention, but to no avail. There was still one more girl she needed to talk to, though. Lockers slammed and the hallways emptied, until they were the only two left in the hallway. Blue eyes met gray, and both girls were a little less than welcoming. Though they both wore little smiles, it was clear that a temporary rift had appeared between them. Halcyon brushed her bangs out of her eyes, leaning against the wall casually and smirking like nothing was wrong. The last bell had rung, and only silence hung in the hallways. Finally, Halcyon spoke. "Care to explain, Mar?"

One thing I have learned about school is that everything goes noticed. You can't do anything without at least one person knowing about it. Because everyone is watching. Anyone in District 3 would agree that life isn't very interesting. So everyone is searching in weird places for something to entertain the crowd. Naturally, most people go to gossips which just makes things a lot more complicated, but interesting. I try to stay away from all that drama because District 3 is a small world. No one comes in no one comes out. So once a rumor sparks up it spreads to everyone like a wild fire. And no one forgets it, I mean people haven't forgotten the blue eyed lovers yet and that was from like 2nd grade.

Marlie noticed my tension when the bell rings to herd up in. She makes a joke it lighten up the mood. I smile and laugh in a silent way. I can count on her to trow in a joke if she feels the mood dropping. "It's a new feature to hell." I take her hand as we take on school for another day of our lives. To be honest there was a welcome committee for all the new students in high school and actual school. I remember when I was 14, the moment I walked into the big brick building that read 'District 13 High School' overly happy seniors were in my face. Pandora thought it was funny and laughed alone with some of the other kids but I found it kind of annoying. I made a pact to myself that I would never be on the welcoming committee but now I was.

The moment Marlie and I stepped into school, students piercing eyes were staring at us. The presser of whispers and eyes made me blush a rosy pink color and cling onto Marlie a little tighter. I didn't really like it when people all stared at me giving me their attention in a bad way. My class mates made it seem like being with Marlie was a very bad idea. But I told myself to ignore them. Marlie and I were perfect for each other and everyone who did the blue eyed lover jokes now were right and knew it. Pat on the back for them. At first when I looked into her blue eyes I had to look away because all I did was blush. Now that I openly admitted it to myself and her I loved her, I could look into her eyes all the time.

There was a boy in the hallway that was looking at us with his jaw open like it was so fascinating that we were holding hands. I rolled my eyes and Marlie made a joke about it instead. She blew a fake kiss to the boy who I swear I saw blushing before I turned around with a laugh to listen to what she was saying. Marlie was right, everyone seemed to be obsessed with us. If my younger self ever wondered how to be popular and the center of attention now I know. Just date your best friend and the rest in taken care of. "To be honest I don't really like it." I was a natural leader but I covered it up with staying in the background. If I felt like I needed to be the leader in the situation, I would not hesitant to stand up and take charge. But that was very rare and even more rare at school. I usually staid in the back at school and at home I was more take charge. Pandora was a control freak so it's fun to irritate her.

We met up with Pandora and I tried to turn my attention away from the pairs of eyes that were watching us and the whispers all around. It made me feel small, like a bug under a microscope but it also made me feel powerful. It was such a weird feeling. Something I wasn't sure if I wanted to never experience it again or experience it forever. I had to start getting used to all the blabber because it was going to go on for quite awhile under things got into routine. If there is one thing I know about gossip nothing is top story for too long. Something new always pops up and takes the gossip on a different turn. But Marlie and I's relationship might take people awhile to get used to.

A laugh escapes my lips as Pandora makes a scene to our classmates. They begin to break and I shake my head. "Gianna defiantly belongs in the Capitol if you ask me!" I say seeing her out of the corner of my eye chatting with another girl and giggling. I turn my attention back to Marlie, grabbing her hand tighter as she asks about Hya and Hal. Hya and Hal were Marlie's other best friends. I didn't know them until about 5th grade when Marlie finally introduced me to them. Hal was nice and so was Hya. But I never could understand how she could jump from boy to boy. How were you supposedly in love with that many people? Except she wasn't like Madison, because Hya knew I was off limits from the start for some reason.

With all this commotion Algebra class slipped out of my mind. I liked math. It was the one subject that was clear and easy to understand. There were no if ands or buts about the answer it was only one thing at that thing only. I was a stellar student at math and with most kids being smart was a bad thing but here in District 3, being smart was the prime spot. Pan reminded me about class and I sighed. "See ya Marlie! Tell Hal hello for me." I peak her on the cheek before Pandora drags me away. I had a smile on my face and I waved by to Marlie. I comb my hair over with my fingers. It was ahabit I have had for many years. If my hair grows out long I feel obligated to comb it all the time.

Pan and I walk really fast to Algebra class. "I don't know how much longer this is going to last." I whispered grabbing my books quickly from my locker. Pandora leaned on the locker next to mine and shook her head. "Get used to it Rex, you and Marlie are the talk of the school and probably will be for awhile. At least until the dance." I stopped in my tracks. Damn, now I had to think of something cute to ask Marlie by. Usually I went with some girl that really wanted me to ask them or with a group of friends but this time I actually have a girl friend. Pandora laughed at me and pulled me away from my locker after I shut it. "You will be fine." She said. Hopefully.

Algebra was living hell. Usually I could relax and have fun but with the whispers and the eyes were really annoying. Pandora was doing her best to keep them away. I could hear her snapping from two seats behind me. The teacher even knew the talk of the school. I felt one of my guy friends staring at me the whole time with a silly smirk plastered across his face. I just mouthed 'what' over to him and tried to concentrate on the numbers in front of me. James, a kid I have hung out with since 1st grade passed me a note. I opened it. Nice choice. No one saw it coming. I read it and chucked it at his head with a fake smile. By the end of class I was jumping out of my seat to leave. I stopped by the teacher for extra problems. He gave them to me with a stupid smile on his face just like my friends. Yeah the guys I have been trying to ignore but as I was walking to history they stopped me. "Care to explain." I heard Erik say.

Things happened, and next thing I know I was kissing him," she sighed, shrugging. "Didn't expect it to be that simple, did you?" Halcyon stood up, slowly walking up behind Marlie. "I know I came off as harsh. I'm sorry. I know that you dump friends as time goes on, either if they don't treat you right or you don't love and trust them as you love and trust us. I guess I should've seen this coming, since you held onto him for so long. You're perfect for each other." A ghost of a smile appeared on Halcyon's face as she wrapped her arm around Marlie's shoulder. "But don't get too caught up in your love life and forget about us, okay, Mar?" Marlie couldn't help but laugh, picking up her bag and slinging it over her shoulder. "Can we go to class now?" she asked. "I actually like language arts, believe it or not. I'd like to be there now." Halcyon raised an eyebrow, chuckling. "Never thought I'd see the day," she sighed. In all honesty, Marlie was offended that Halcyon appeared not to think that she cared about school. She loved learning, but it was just that school seemed more like drama central than a place to learn, and she would try at all means to avoid it. Secrets would be tossed around like basketballs in gym class, and rumors would fester everywhere. She couldn't help but wonder sometimes, maybe she could transfer schools someday, to a cleaner, nicer academy. But she had become far too attached to the people here to ever leave them; plus, why leave so late in her education? She might as well just finish off the year, graduate, and focus on later life. There wasn't that much time left before the year ended anyways. Language arts was not all Marlie was hoping it would be. The teacher was talking about the new class assignment, and he had written the word "Character" on the board in fat letters. He wanted them to invent a character that could be used in any situation, like in a novel or in a discussion. Marlie was copying notes down from the board, her writing getting smaller further down the page as an attempt to leave room for more bulletpoints and ideas. Whispers and giggles reverberated around the room, and the group of girls sitting next to her seemed especially interested in what she was doing now. "Hey Marlie, you writing a love letter to Rex now?" Gritting her teeth, Marlie set down her notebook and calmly turned around. "No, Shelley," she muttered. "I am not writing a love letter. What about you, though? We all know you've got the hots for Steve." Shelley opened her mouth as if she were going to shoot back a harsh remark, but stopped. Her face turned bright red, and she quickly turned away, fuming. Marlie smirked at her success, turning back towards the board and picking up her pencil. She was about to start writing again when she was lightly tapped on the shoulder. A certain blonde was leaning over her shoulder, gray eyes little magnifying glasses burning holes in her skin. "What, Hyacinth?" Hyacinth quickly sat back, startled by Marlie's harsh tone. "What's with the attitude? I just wanna talk," she whispered. Marlie sighed, signing later with her free hand. Hyacinth was silent for a moment, before sighing dramatically and giving a defeated "Fine." The teacher brought down his ruler sharply on the desk, causing everyone in the room to flinch. "Why do I hear talking?" he snapped. "If you have something to ask, raise your hand." Half the class' hands shot up in the air eagerly, and some people were about to jump out of their seats. The teacher seemed rather surprised, considering all of the people who wanted to speak usually didn't participate in class activities. "Yes, Brice?" Brice turned around, looking directly at Marlie and smirking. "I think we all want to know about what's going on between Marlie and Rex," he sneered. Marlie scowled at him, crossing her arms. "I don't have to tell you anything," she said monotonously. Hyacinth leaned forward again, resting her arm on Marlie's shoulder. "Come on guys, leave the poor girl alone. She doesn't wanna talk about it, she doesn't have to." A loud, obnoxious voice piped up from the back. "So, how long have you been together?" the owner jeered. "From the way you two were making out in that boutique, you've probably been badword buddies for years." Melodramatic "ohhs" came from every corner of the room. Marlie opened her mouth to make a witty remark, but instead held her tongue. Arguing with her classmates was futile. They'd always find another reason to bug her. She turned around in her seat, cheeks red with embarrassment and fury. Her face hadn't felt this hot since the day she first heard the "blue-eyed lovers" story circulating. So much for trying to put up with the rumors. --- "Care to explain?" Marlie looked up as she exited language arts, the redness in her cheeks fading to a rosy pink. She noticed a group of boys gathered before Rex, that pest Erik Palmer at the head. By the looks of it, they were going to harass Rex to death. This isn't good. If Marlie's suspicions were correct, they were going to taunt him about dating her. And Rex would flip his shit. Damn it.

I knew this was going to happen.

The moment I walked into this school I knew. I knew the moment Pandora came up to me and told me everything she had just heard walking into the building. It took me this long to realize that it would actually come true. In this school, nothing was unknown. If one person knows, the whole schools knows. Especially if it's gossip Gianna. That girl has caused everyone some trouble. At first I thought she couldn't help it, she was just a bad secret keeper. But soon I realized that she just enjoyed watching people react to what she said. True or not, no one can believe Gianna without having to talk to their buddies to make sure.

I don't understand how this came as a surprise to people. It was bound to happen sometimes. Pandora has been predicting this relationship since the 2nd grade. I was 99.9 percent sure she indirectly started the blue eyed lovers rumor in the first place. Now that it was technically true, people were going to be telling us left and right they knew it but really it was Pandora that thought of it in the first place. I just didn't need this to get out of hand. The last thing I needed was some ex of Marlie's to lash out on me. Because that's would be hell. She has dated some big guys.

The guys surrounded me at locker time, asking me questions. Sometimes I wonder why I even hang out with some of them. Especially Erik, boy he can be annoying as all get out. His super white teeth freak me out sometimes. I just look at them and constantly smile and shake my head up and down or side to side. They started harassing me when I answered her question. My smile slowly faded as they taunted blue eye lover shit and all that great stuff. "Have you had sex yet?" Erik asked. I looked at him in awe. "We just started dating today." I was offeendeed her even thought about asking me that. My cheeks flushed red. "I had to ask. She seems like a slut." I widened my eyes. "Shut up Erik." "Well her clothes are so small I would think she was." My anger raged. He didn't know Marlie.

I turn to face Erik, a little hot headed. Just kidding, I was so upset. "You know what Erik. She's a better girl friend then you will ever have. I love her so get over it." I see him smirk. "Prove it." I hate this guy. I look at him and find Marlie looking my way. I run over to her and grab her hands. I look at her as it say I was sorry. "EVERYONE LISTEN TO ME!" I scream and everyone has their eye on me and Marlie. "The rumors are true. Marlie and I are dating. So everyone can shut up because I have something to tell you all. I love her and that's it." I look at her and whisper I had too before pressing my lips on hers in front of the whole school.

The scene unfolding before her seemed like something fresh out of one of the crappy plays put on by the drama club. They were mocking him, mocking her. Her peers had struggled to hold her down for years, and she would always get up and brush the dust off of her shoulders as if nothing happened. Marlie had always known that the clothes she wore gave off sort of a negative aura; the skinny jeans she had cut down to shorts, the t-shirts that were a lot less than form-fitting, and the same floppy, worn leather boots. The outfit she was wearing today didn't cut off her circulation like her other clothes did, but she could still feel the old fabric squeezing her body. Another shirt she was growing out of.

"I had to ask, she seems like a slut."

She could feel the heat rising in her cheeks and hear her heart pounding in her ears. Whether Erik Palmer or Gianna Magna was more infuriating, she couldn't decide. They didn't know her. They didn't fucking know her. Typical teenagers, always making assumptions. How half the students in her class got promoted to the next level, she didn't know. None of them were on the honor roll, none of them were in school half the time (though it wasn't like she was either), and none of them knew shit. Marlie unconsciously balled her hands into fists, her knuckles ghost white and her knees trembling. What was this pumping in her veins? Certainly not adrenaline. She could feel the hot tears welling up in her eyes again, and a lump forming in the back of her throat. It felt like, any second, she would empty the contents of her stomach onto the floor. (And since her stomach was empty, it would be nothing but bile.)

Erik and his cronies could see her. Marlie knew they could. His eyes were drifting past Rex, drinking in as much of Marlie as he could. He was running his tongue along his chapped lips, like a lion staring down his prey. Rex was nothing but a tree in his path. Trying to steady her breathing, she slowly walked up behind Rex and placed a hand on his shoulder. "It's okay," she wanted to tell him, "It doesn't bother me." But that would be going against her number one rule; Never tell a lie, Mar."

"The rumors are true. Marlie and I are dating. So everyone can shut up because I have something to tell you all. I love her and that's it."

Rex's eyes were sorrowful, almost apologetic. "I have to," he croaked. Marlie tried to shake her head, to force the jumbled words out of his mouth, but her entire body was numb and all she could do was embrace him as his lips pressed against hers.
