Shit! I just seen something happen that I didn't expect, ever. Dramatically, a gunshot opens the air and tears up our ears. Everything pauses except for me. Alex hasn't got his gun out, so it must be somebody else. Not Matthew, not Jins. I don't care to look. I need to save this girl. I need to focus. I don't care about anything else. After an effort of commendability, I place my head to her chest once more and I close my eyes. And for the first time, I really do pray. I pray to whatever god there is, whoever made this pathetic world, to bring this one person from the edge.
I wait. Nothing.
And nothing again.
I give up, mentally.
A breath.
My face lights up, but it has no chance to recover from the hardship of saving one life, because another needs saving. I see Matthew being pushed backward and I gasp, the shock causing me to disregard all sense of safety, even with Jins nearby. I rush to the edge but it is too late, I skid on the floor to try desperately to catch Matthew's hands. Nothing happens.
And nothing again.
I give up, physically.
I couldn't save him.
I glare down, seeing him fall in almost slow motion. It's like seeing my life collapse in front of me. Not because he is my life. Nothing at all as sentimental. But because I couldn't save him. I couldn't reach him in time.
"Help!" I hear. Fear fills me. "Matt!" I yell down, but he's too far for me to reach. He's too far for anybody to reach.
Up here, that is. "Matt, look down!" I yell. Because I see a familiar face beneath him, who I couldn't be more thankful for. If somebody was going to catch my friend from falling, it would be him.
Matthew doesn't like him, but I don't care. He won't care. None of them would care. It will save his life. "He'll catch you!" I yell, my voice carrying down to him heavily.
