wanted character: Reina Robichaux
character expansion: Right now, Reina stands at a lot of crossroads in her life. Is she truly good, or just dulcet? Is she truly bad, or just burned? Does she hate her mother for leaving, or desperately wish to do the exact same thing some day when she's old enough? She seems to have grown hyper-aware of each decision she makes as it slowly chips away at her edges and further defines who she'll become one day. And when she closes her eyes and tries to imagine what that could look like, every time it's different. Sometimes she's a treasured victor in a lavish house, other times she's aged with grace and hears the laughter of her children, other times she's like her mother, right in this very room, staring at the tendrils of stagnant cigarette smoke and wondering why nothing ever worked.
potential development ideas:
- The Cycle: Obviously, there is a universe where Reina is destined to repeat her mother's mistakes and thus eventually become her. I think it would be really interesting to have Reina consciously trying to make different decisions than her mother and then through their different circumstances, ultimately often get very similar results. The whole "is there such a thing as free will or has this all been decided" theme
- The Ascension: It would be really cool to have Reina come into her own as she ages. She's among the youngest of the Robichaux family listed here, and thus is often overlooked comparatively. But she actually does hold a lot of potential as observed by Ma. It'd be really interesting to see her make moves to be more like her grandmother than her mother, hardening her exterior and becoming generally tougher, maybe even becoming a better career as a result.
- The Betrayal: Someone needs to break her heart so she can stop being so precious, honestly. I think at present, she's such a perfectionist and desperately craves a life where everything is always as it should be. When anything goes awry, she's liable to meltdown, and doesn't really know how to navigate moving forward so she sort of just flounders until someone helps her. I think that hindsight in a failed relationship would allow her to stop being so hyper critical of both herself and others.
potential plots with other characters/listed NPC's:
- Rusty: Growing up, there has always existed a healthy competitiveness between the two of them, as they both idolized their grandmother and furthermore are more like each other than any of the others their age. While they're generally close friends, it can be all too common for jealousy to rear its head one way or another, especially when matters of attention are at stake. Maybe one of them gets more birthday money than the other did and they get into an argument about it!
- Ramona: Her relationship with her mother has always been strained, to say the least. While on the surface, she resents being left and struggles very deeply with feeling unwanted now, Reina also idolizes Ramona in many ways she cannot help, and I think the idea of Ramona showing back up from another failed fling, going through the process of promising to stick around and be better, convincing Reina she means it this time, only to inevitably leave when she starts feeling stifled again will be a really good opportunity for Reina to make some big life decisions moving forward.
- Cooper: As only a year separates them, it is entirely possible that they would be in a similar age grouping in the career training academy. As such, I think it'd be a brilliant way to segue Cooper into the larger plot if he and Reina happened to already be familiar with each other and upon spending more time together, eventually discover the truth when his grandma starts being really insistent that he not spend any time around her or any Robichauxs.
