Her feet pounded against the magmatic rock sending pebbles scattering off into the dull darkness. She was headed straight for chaos, she could feel it. The second law of thermodynamics stated that all things start out at a constant but eventually- like the universe itself- would fall into chaos. Time was the same, moving forward, never being able to go back, was all controlled by that law of thermodynamics; eventually time too would become chaotic. Hypatia just wondered how long until the chaos caught up with her but she quickly pushed the thought from her mind and focused on the task at hand. Her eyes scanned the ground ahead of her, desperate to find a weapon as her heart beat solidly against her chest. She could hear the footfall of other tributes but the darkness made it difficult to see anyone unless they were close enough to touch her, but at the moment, Hypatia felt alone. In this lonliness, her gaze spotted a knife, fashioned out of bone or some sort of pale material, in amongst the plethora of treasure before her but as she darted to grab it, she was suddenly not alone any more. She scowled, lashing out with her hands and fist before grabbing the knife.

The grip of the gem-studded hammer felt wrong - a lot in the same way the daggers felt wrong at his private training session. The weapon itself is too heavy, weighed down by its excessive embellishes and the promise of the lives it would take. He drags it in the dust behind him as he runs from whatever’s out here to get him. His breath becomes thick with fear and anticipation, and his palms sweating and threatening to let the weapon slip through his fingers.

When he bumps into the next body, he raises it without hesitance. He lets it fall without regard to consequence.

The air was intense, his body felt like it was in overdrive. Natalie, Daniel, and Hypatia were somewhere in there. Fighting just like he had done, but only he was weak. A weak corpse with nothing to go off of. His mind told him it was wrong to attack, but his body forced him to. His hands felt rough, especially his right one. He swung at someone who he couldn’t see. A corpse who swung. His adrenaline was telling him to flee. Run away before it was too late. Fight of flight. Fight or flight. He was a survivor. Even if it meant fleeing from the mayhem that was going to occur. A mask of kindness upon his face was getting harder and harder to take off, it was nice having memories with people he got to know. He couldn’t fight them, not there, and definitely not then.

His legs moved swiftly, carrying him away from the mayhem. All he wanted to do was cry, his trusty knife in hand as he made his escape. Fight or Flight, the latter was better. It’s what he had done before. His mother’s words on his mind. Leave me Minos, Leave. That’s what he was doing, leaving the death sentence to go die another way. He was a survivor, but survivors didn’t win, only fighters did. A sigh escape him as he continues his fleeing. His body tells him it’ll be okay, but his mind knows that nothing will ever be okay again. This was his life now. A hellish place where everyone is the prey.

I'm not sure if I made any contact or not, but I honestly don't care. It doesn't matter if it's a waste or not because I'm able to wrap my hands around the object I was after. I pick it up and examine it carefully. It's beautiful really. A snake wrapped carefully up the long spear. I let my fingers delicately trace the outline, I'm mesmerized. It takes me a minute before I realize I should actually do something with it. I take a deep breath, and swing at whatever is closest to me.

I don't want to fight. I don't want to kill. I don't want there to be pain and suffering and loss and tears and all things that make this world an inhuman place. There are people in this bloodbath who are like me. We volunteered to die. I'm sure there are other's in here like me who just wanted to help save a life, but I also know there are people here to kill and hurt and destroy until they are the last one standing which wi never happen because they are fighting an endless battle against those in the capitol.


And the capitol has a stronger thirst for blood than any tribute that they send into the hunger games.


I wish I didn't need to fight, but I do know it is not my time to die yet. "I'm sorry..." I whisper softly before lashing out yet again.

Without panic or sound, you bore down on her. Mach showed up as you went to attack again, also going for the girl. A moment of subtle rippling within you disquiets the stillness you had been trying to hold onto, but you settle yourself before raising the weapon. It was a good thing you had practiced with a number of weapons, since now you could at least hold the thing properly. You felt the iciness start to rise within you and welcomed it. Things were so much easier when you didn't feel. Instead of the girl, though, you changed your target at the last moment. The girl was running away, no point attacking the coward.

They trip, and I’m not one to fill with emotions due to causing pain to another. They should know that people will fight for their life just as bad as they will and if they feel betrayed or hurt by it- it must be pretty difficult for them if they get out of this centered home. It’s a fought life that they all preserve the best to their ability. Even if it means shoving away the possibility of another’s life, it’s all for themselves.

Survival of the fittest is a better quote that should be used for this life.

Backpacks scatter around and they all are of different colors, bright- almost colors that resemble the happiness of others. But they don’t belong in this place. There is no happiness in whatever is to remain of this hell, this life that they’ve been provided to. I wear shorts that seem awfully too short for my liking (luckily they aren’t short enough to where everyone in Panem can see what only those who are special can).

You see, if I were to be in the ‘let’s be all happy and positive’ mood, I’d probably comment on how good my legs look right now but they’re probably uglier than the blood that will pool on the ground before me. I quickly load an arrow and fire in the direction of someone who does not ring a bell in my mind.

Though, the only thing that rejoys through my mind is the passionate thought of keeping myself alive.
