[Day 1] Wrestling: Round 1

WRESTLING: ROUND 1

Welcome to the Wrestling event of the second Panem Olympic Games! The wrestling mats are located within the Olympic Arena, with stands for spectators traveling from Districts One, Two, Four, and the Capitol to watch the competitors. Television cameras are set up around as well, to broadcast the event to anyone staying home as well as to the other districts who aren't as lucky and competent as you all! Please be sure you stretch and warm up with your coaches before you're called to the mat and remember, make your district proud!

The wrestling event is a tournament, which follows a bracket. Each match will occur on this thread. Feel free to roleplay your character grappling with their opponent and then paste the code [*roll=15] without the asterisk into your post and roll, as you would with a Hunger Games die. This number is used to determine the winner of each match.

The competitor who scores higher than their opponent moves on to the next round, which will be posted on a new thread. As the wrestlers post, the winners and scores will be recorded here; when all the first round matches have been completed, the bracket will be updated and the next round will start.

There is NO POSTING ORDER; you may post whenever you please. Keep in mind that this event must be wrapped up by the end of the Olympics Day.

Nothing has been the same since my name was called for the game, and the tiny no life, Heathcliff Travers, volunteered. I knew from far away that he stood no chance. But nevertheless, here I am trying to make sense of my life. Coming to the Olympics? Such an easy answer. I couldn't say no because this is a time for me to show that I am better than all the little peasants competing against me. None of the stand a chance. Of course, it's not over until it's over, but I am the king while all the other weaklings are nothing more than an ant crawling across the ground as I stomp them. A cocky grin spreads across my face as I take my place on the mat. For once I am in the spotlight, and I don't plan on ruining it.

The taste of freedom; gunpowder residue in back alleys, and salt in the air of District Four. Never in her wildest dreams had she imagined herself surrounded by the ocean in all its glistening glory. Diamonds reflected on its surface, prettier than the rings on her fingers and the jewelry around her neck. It was everything that opposed her lifestyle; bright, welcoming, and warm. She found it discomforting. Sand in her boots, eyes squinting in the sun, heat breaking against her skin. This was no place for leather pants and collared necks.

Freedom tasted like fish, and she spat it quickly. A new place was only as enjoyable as its people, and she found nothing appealing about fishermen and careers with salt in their hair. A field trip with her girls was the only purpose of this adventure – with an added bonus of the Olympic sports because participation was required for travelers. She had chosen wrestling for the sole purpose of tangling her limbs with another’s. Sweat and grime were her forte, and she wanted to pin another human being to the ground. It was raw, dirty fun and people were collecting medals for it.

She stretched her limbs and cracked her neck, stepping out into the ring. Sloane would be out here after her match. Belladonna was off watching or trying not to poison the next contestant’s drink. Nemesis smirked. My girls.

Her opponent was a dainty-looking fairy, short and scrawny. Anyone would expect an easy match.

Good thing I’m not stupid.

Aidan Reid

He'd always enjoyed wrestling.

In his mind, it was one of the few "pure" sports left in Panem, one of the few worth putting time and energy into. It was a form of structured combat between two people, using nothing but their own bodies as instruments to victory.

It was pure, raw fighting, without any weapons of metal or dirty tricks to sour it.

It was his turn to compete now, and he stepped out onto the mat, external sounds muted even moreso than normal and body warmed up, stretched, and ready to tangle with that of another.

His opponent stepped out onto the mat, and he took a moment to size her up.

She had an imposing look about her, one that radiated strength and confidence even from across the arena. The girl was most definitely no stranger to the sport, and the corners of his mouth curved into a grin in response.

Even back home, he had never faced a first round opponent that looked as formidable as she did. The thought only made him more eager for the match to start.

She might be a girl, but Aidan had tangled with - and lost to - some pretty formidable females back home. If anything, her gender just meant he'd have to try that much harder to win.

Besides, people back home constantly underestimated him for his inability to hear in one ear. It would be a refreshing change to face someone who didn't know, and therefore didn't mark him as weak because of it.

The whistle blew, and he lunged.

Panem's Third Olympic Games

    Nerves float like bubbles to front of Lightning's conscious. Around him legends walked with muscles rippling and eyes glinting. Upon the backs of some were names laced with legacies only an idiot wouldn't know. Hammerfell. By far that name sent shrills of surreal fear pulsing through Lightning's nervous system. However, Torka only deemed Lightning's worry legitimate as Lightning witnessed the hardy Hammerfell ring one of the Krearns to the floor in an instant. With every passing second Lightning could feel his body shuddering with worry. Chaos was here competing as well yet he had to prove to her the strength he had. Prove to her he wasn't just the same little boy she remembers and thinks she constantly has to protect. For years she has suffered for the family and now Lightning didn't want her to suffer a second longer. 

    So when the fateful moment came that Lightning's name boomed through the speakers he walked as calmly as he could to the mats. Screams pierced the air as excitement exploded from the crowd. In front of him Lightning didn't see anyone other than his competition, his obstacle in the way of his dream. Then in an instant the bell rings and Lightning strikes just as he would from the sky. Swift and sudden, Lightning had to leave his opponent shocked and leave the matts on top of the pile. For Chaos, he would, he had to.

Brutus stands, flexing his muscles one at a time. He takes in his surroundings - a crowd, roaring in excitement, eager to take in the ensuing violence, and official, ready to oversee his bout, and an opponent, older than him and with a half-crazed look in his eye, ready to put Brutus on the ground. Not on his watch.

Brutus had entered the competition with his brother, Clouse. The two had refused to enter the same events, not wanting to bear the burden that would come with facing the other in a bout. Knowing he would never have to face his twin made fighting that much easier.

Brutus looks back at his opponent and decides then and there that he will not lose. This is District 4, his home, and no District 1 thug will take the opportunity to make his district proud away from the Greenfield boy. Brutus takes the image of his opponent, shapes it into the form of someone seeking to harm Clouse, then channels the ensuing hatred and anger into raw power, waiting to be released.

When he is given the signal to start the bout, Brutus lets loose, jumping onto his opponent with the power of a rampaging rhinoceros.

As soon as the whistle blew, the match started and Torka, the big lug of an idiot slammed him hard. Everett felt everything in him sling to a side. The big lug was putting up a violent front and Everett just wanted to give in. Brain felt like mush from the hangover he had from the night before, but that wasn't him. The adrenaline pulled and pulled at his muscles. Achingly, asking for them to move and fight back even a little. He wasn't going to go down without a fight, not like his parents did. Not like Nemo would if he were to be reaped. Everett Krearns was a man with so many weaknesses, but he couldn't be shown up by a Hammerfell. Not then. Not ever. Everett pushed as hard as he could back.

The room seemed to spiral into a twist of limbs and so many body parts that were well defined. Everett felt himself wanting to touch more of Torka, even though he was the enemy. If it had been any other situation he would have, but an olympics event was not the place or the time. Instead, he wraps around Torka and tries his best to do something more than flail around while Torka destroys him and everything Everett had considered himself to be good at. Wrestling would soon follow the bottom of that list, though, it could have been worse for him, could have been someone ugly.

The best part of the olympics? Watching these other nerds bomb the events. 

Silver hair unkempt and wild, she rocked back and forth on the bleachers, snorting and laughing -- "WHERE'S THE COME BACK AT LITTLE MAN" -- I haven't had this much fun since that one time Giselle and her got drink and went begging for bar fights; I love it. I always feel so much stronger and grittier with her I don't know; it's that shit Prisclla would ride my ass for. This behavior and being the lous and brash and I'm starting to think she just don't like ME -- everything she hates is the amalgamation of who I am and - "HOW'D THIS FUCKASS MAKE THE OLYMPICS-" 

Some coach shushes at me and I cackle; something about sportsman ship yada yada yada, that's not the point. 

I forgot what the point was. Uhhh. 

Y'know, I'm starting to feel like this whole things a waste of my time, jumping from the bleachers to the field in my blue spandex -- "hey little man."

I love smack talk. 

He was a silent type, cute and southern district two? I reckon; he's silent and I can play that game too. Big hair, big teeth I'm everything Priscilla says I can't be -- I'm everything she hates and more.

They'd told her that she couldn't kill anyone. In fact, they'd been very explicit in the point, repeating it over and over again -"Hisoka, you can't kill anyone." It wasn't fair, why did she have to justify her abilities to others? She already knew she was better than them, it wasn't worth her time. It was a bloody miracle in itself that she had turned up for her event. In all honestly the only reasn she was here was because she'd seen someone that had interested her. With her taste for blood she'd decided it would be better off not being found near the severed head of her former 'coach'.

She stood on the stage a hand resting on her hip. Oh how bored she was, this was going to be an awfully drab affair. Even before her so called opponent had even taken the stage she'd covered the entire room. No one was above a ten on skill level. Oh how she wished she could be back in district one, where only Illumi managed to even reach her level of skill. A fight was never worth anything if the person wasn't close to a 90.

The rising cheers had her finally dragging her gaze upwards, eyes lazily turning to land on her opponent. Suddenly she was more alive, a tingling sensation running through her blood.

Oh ho ho.

What did we have here? The girl was all fire. And suddenly her body ached with sudden and intoxicating wanting.

"Mmmmmm, how divine." She purred, strolling forwards. She was a child, little more than an infant in Hisoka's eyes, but there was a golden aura around her. "So much potential," she groaned. Oh this girl could be a star. A fruit not quite reading for the picking. Not yet. She couldn't kill her yet, but how her fingers itched to kill her, to fight her and feel her struggle. Not yet. She'd play with her for now, and come back for her after she had developed. Ripened.

"I'd hope you moan better than that in the bedroom," she said. And Hisoka laughed, the sound more menacing, lacking humour entirely. The bedroom? Why bother with that perverted act when she could satisfy all her desires by simply spilling someone's blood. She itched, everything was on fire as she watched the girl move, prowling around, watchful, careful. She knew what she wanted and oh how she was going to get it. Hisoka wanted to kill her, wanted to feel that desire beneath her fingers.

"Oooooh." She couldn't tame herself, she couldn't control her needs.

So when the girl came for her she let her.

The girl who faces her is admittedly pretty, but Luca decides that she doesn't like that almost menacing glint in the darkness of her eyes.

Her parents had warned her not to "wander into someone's bed" during the Olympic Games, but she was never one to listen to her parents. She had already gotten a head start at ignoring their warning, and she had to say, she was quite pleased with herself.

"Mmmmmm, how divine. So much potential," she purrs and groans, as if she's in a bedroom rather than a wrestling ring.

(Divine. Luca had been with a lot of women, but she'd never heard that one before.)

Rather than being revolted by the girl's misplaced attitude towards her, she finds it amusing, and throws her head back and laughs, sending her hair all tumbling down her back. She's used to all kinds of eccentric, off-putting, and just downright freaky Careers, and she decides, the moment the girl speaks, that she fits into one or most of those categories.

"I'd hope you moan better than that in the bedroom," Luca remarks.

"Go on," she taunts, a crooked grin twisting up the side of her face. "You're amusing."

Benit sat on a bench while he waited for his turn to fight. He couldn’t wait, practically jumping out of his seat every time a round ended, every time one got knocked out while the other stood over them victorious. That’s what he wanted for himself, except he wanted to stand over all of them victorious, and he wanted them to be dead beneath him. Finally being called up to fight, Benit started walking over while cracking all parts of his body. He had to be as flexible as possible to take down his opponent, a District 4 boy with only three fingers on one of his hands. “A weakness,” Benit thought, “Something I could use against him.” It was obvious, however, that the boy was overconfident, as he was flexing his muscles for everyone to see. As Benit readied his stance, he was suddenly on the ground, tackled by his opponent, but Benit wouldn’t give up so easily, as he started flipping his opponent over onto his back. He was ready to win.

Absalom Ottrell 

“They spelled my name wrong.” Absalom Ottrell had been chosen to represent District One in the Olympics, and was more than a little bit ecstatic. There were few things people thought the boy was capable of, but he had managed his best in the trials beforehand to make it to the glittering stadiums and in front of the adoring fans. This was enough that his parents took a dinner to acknowledge him and his success. Dare that they would’ve said they were proud—of course, his father struck a more somber tone, telling his son that he had better not embarrass himself in either of his events. 

Except it already seemed as though someone was laughing at him, the moon eyed boy that could only point and stare at his misspelled name on the screen. He may not have been the brightest bulb, but he knew that wasn’t how they were supposed to—except no one was watching him then, the other competitors already comparing themselves for the oncoming matches. Why would they have wanted to dawdle with the childish boy? His hulking frame belied the simpleton; his girth was more a shield against what others likely would’ve said about him if they knew (or already did). He began to stretch his arms, one across his chest and then the other, staring down his opponent. 

He didn’t put much thought into what was needed. Wrestling was about moving one’s body into position, lifting the other person, and pinning them. Some tried fancy holds or to kick up one’s legs; that was more show. Brute strength could win (and often did) over any kind of footwork. He’d made enough boys back in District One scream over it, not that he had wanted to hurt anyone. Rather, he had the compulsion to win, because winning was good, and Absalom was anything if not good. And so he was here now, in the last sixteen, competing for a chance to prove himself. And he would, because he believed it to be so. 

The buzzer sounded and Absalom stepped forward, body tucked in, hulking frame pacing forward. Time for him to crush his competition, and move on.

My opponent may think he has the face of a fighter, but all I see is the sneering, arrogant beakof another would-be hero. A fool, just like the rest of them. I may be only one year older than the boy at worst, but having exited the years of the Reaping with all the grace of a crash-landing space shuttle, I consider myself at least a whole lifetime wiser.

It's not wisdom that'll help me now, however, but strength. I plant my feet as I was taught so many years ago, open my arms, and prepare for the fight.

God I hate this.

I raise a hand over my eyes to stare up at the blinding sun in four. It beats down on the top of my head and makes sweat drip down my back in dismal streaks. I glance over at where Nemesis stands waiting to go and I narrow my eyes at her back.

I can't believe she talked me into coming here.

I look behind me at the crowd, wondering where Belladonna has scampered off to. I wonder if she's making friends. I made a few last night. Careers, despite my general annoyance with all of them are an excellent bang and give an excellent buck. My purse is already heavier since coming here and it's only been one day.

I'm called to the mat and it's to meet a boy. He looks intent on strangling me. "Save that for the bedroom," I mutter under my breath.

He lunges for me and I tense, muscles relaxing into place as I change my stance to meet him impact.

I hate how easy it is to remember.
