[Day 2] Round 1: Beach Vollyball

BEACH VOLLEYBALL: ROUND 1

Welcome to the Beach Volleyball event of the second Panem Olympic Games! The court is located on the beach in District Four, with stands for spectators traveling from Districts One, Two, Four, and the Capitol to watch the competitors. Television cameras are set up around as well, to broadcast the event to anyone staying home as well as to the other districts who aren't as lucky and competent as you all! Please be sure you stretch and warm up with your coaches before you're called to the court, and remember, make your district proud!

Beach volleyball is a tournament, following a bracket. Each player has been assigned a team and a round one match. In THIS THREAD, everyone involved in this tournament should post the following dice code THREE TIMES after roleplaying their character's preparation and start of the match: [*roll range=1-7] without the asterisk. Once everyone involved in your match has done so (i.e., all four players) your points and your teammate's points will be added up for each set, and the team with the highest score wins that set. That score will be the number of points MORE you scored than your opponent in that set. Whoever wins the majority of the three sets wins the match Please remember, beach volleyball goes to 21 points. (We're pretending that the final set goes to 21 as well, and not 15)

Here's an example:

Teams: Doe/Sue vs. Stu/Smith

Set 1:
Doe rolls a 4
Sue rolls a 6
Stu rolls a 7
Smith rolls a 1

The team of Doe/Sue has a higher added score, so they win the set by their total, 10 points, meaning the score was 21-11. This process will repeat for the following two sets. If Doe/Sue win another set, then they have won the majority and the match. However, if Stu/Smith win the next two, they win the match.

All beach volleyball players should post their rolls in this thread; there will not be separate threads for each match. After it is determined who wins the match, then feel free to edit your post roleplaying out the match and winning/losing if you wish.

I woke up really early on the second day of the Olympics and ran around the Village a couple of times. With the ocean breeze blowing in my face, jogging was marvellous. But I couldn't help feeling even more nervous than yesterday. Today I would have to face not only cheering crowds and cameras, but also other District's volleyball players. But I wasn't going to give up.

Before going out onto the field I did a few exercises to warm up and took a deep breath to calm down. Too many lights, too many people. But I shouldn't care about this stuff. All I have to do is watch the ball and play my game. Not only my family is at stake, my pride will be destroyed, too, if I fail to do well today. Time to show everybody that I'm not going to lose forever, the first day must not repeat itself. Time to prove I won't always place fourth or fifth. Time to become a winner.

Besides, I'm not alone, I've got a teammate. We are in this together, and together we are going to be the best, we must be. I turn to her and smile confidently. "You ready? Come on, we've got a match to win!" I feel much better now, I feel brave and strong, I am a tigress I tried so hard to be. And I enjoy people watching me and admiring my awesomeness.

Day two. Inhale, exhale. He had things later that day to do event-wise, but besides that, he kind of wanted to meet a couple people. Sure, Beach Volleyball was a way to do that, but he wasn't completely sure what to do during that. Talk to people. Ooh! Such a plan. He rolled his eyes internally at himself, he was stupid to think such a thing, but then again, he didn't really think much in the first place so that makes sense. Andrew spent most of his time in the village talking to himself because he was too lame to actually talk to someone else.

His partner was a Fray. From his district, obviously, but he wasn't sure if they were going to be some dick who had the ego the size of the pool of gold in the arena. Though, despite that the male was ready to fight, and ready to show strength. HA. That was a funny way to put it, he was scared shitless. He was paired with the most recent victor's relative- he's probably going to get a bunch of shit on him due to that itself. Surely, he was the one that made the mistake, not them.

He was unsure of the uniform at first, thinking it showed off him a bit too much - but he didn't care that much. Exercises, running around, stretching his legs and arms. He was jogging around and getting his blood pumping and ready. He hoped that his partner was as ready as he was, because hell, he was prepared to win. When you got your blood pumping and brain jogging, you feel like you're on top of the world.

Like you can conquer life itself and become king of everything.

And, he's ruled every day like he was the king of everything. Rule every day, because the next might not be your last. Somehow he's lived by that, kept training by that. A glance at the other two, he glanced back over to Fray.

Battle. Win.

Victor sibling status is a new kind of high and she rides it with pride, lioness mane, dancing in the summer sun and whispers of her last name. Fray, Fray, Fray. Spinning, she laughs through the Olympic Village and waves for the cameras, captions of her name spilling across screens and scrolling through the reflection in her eyes - good, her parents will be pleased.

"Bring it on, Aurelie" she whispers in her little sister's ears - but Rian isn't scared of her or what she can do. Aurelie, picked from the scraps of orphans littering their home. Rian, born first. Blood thicker than water, mother's smirk on her lips, father's drive in her bones, she high fives her team mate and skips onto the sand with ease. Pressure off, sinking feet into the sand and tiny little pills before breakfast, blue skies and blue eyes and built to conquer. Rian Fray, Rian Fray, Rian Fray. It's in her blood, it's in her very skin.

"You ready? Come on, we've got a match to win!"

"I was born ready."

Beach Volleyball. The event that surprised himself that he even made it. Everett had only just learned how to play the crazy game within the month. A ball, a net, and two players working together to destroy the other team. Enzo had made fun of him the moment he got into the event. Though, Everett knew that once he saw his teammate that he would be fine. Brooke Destin-Libertine, a girl with a few last names that struck a chord within his mind. Libertine had been the name that was attached with Mason's games. Destin was a name that had so much meaning according to the games, but he could care less about that. Brooke was Brooke, not the last names that she was given, just like Everett wasn't like the rest of the Krearns. He was Everett, a boy addicted to adrenaline, a boy who was running his home after his parents died. The night before he had been tying knots and drinking to keep his mind off of the tsunami that destroyed the order of his house.

As he did some stretches getting ready for the match, he looked across the field looking at the opponents, Fray and a name he didn't know. The Fray's were known for their skills and self righteous attitude about themselves. The best of the best according to their own words and many of the people who have faced them or seen them. Everett didn't care, he would try his best, win or lose, he'd live. He'd live a life that he would be proud of. The fact that he tried would make him proud of himself. Even with a bottle to his lips every other night, Everett was still alive. Alive and kicking. That's what mattered to him the most. Brooke and Everett had more in common than he could have thought. Parents both dead to something horrid and evil. The Hunger Games taking lives from both of their families. Everett felt for the girl, yet he could see that she was strong. His voice rang out softly to her, "If we win or lose, I want you to know that I'm glad I got to compete with you. Now let's go out there and try to kick some ass!" A smile pulls at his face with excitement and joy.

The field was as sandy as the beach that he grew up on. His eyes look over to Brooke, he smiled in confidence. Mentally preparing for the sweat and adrenaline of a game that would be pumping through his skin. Excitement sending him on the edge of moving. The world was watching him getting ready to play a game that he only recently learned. As the game begins, the only thought coming through his mind is how he's going to have so much fun no matter what happens.

    Another day brings forth a new gleaming chance at victory. The last day hangs heavy over Fox's mind as the ruins of her opportunities lay wasted upon deserted podiums. A life showered in spotlights ripped away from the deserving. Yet now more chances were being prevailed. More opportunities to take, yet this time it wasn't just Fox alone. Her partner Charlie too had to prove her mettle within the pageant upon the sandy shores. So as the whistle blows Fox gives Solo a swift nod before raising her head towards the battle before them. A chance at gold was dangling before their eyes. Fox knew they just had to take it from the claws of their opponents.

Right, this massive event wasn’t solely to visit another District. Competition, proving worth and self-value, appears to be of the upmost important within the Panem. Truthfully I can’t argue with their perspective. What’s more rewarding then illustrating your better then others?...perhaps an intoxicating night, with a nice screw and bang; but usually a successful battle leads to such. And with a Foxy partner within this sporting arena with me, maybe I’ll receive all the benefits of glory. Beaches may be foreign in my District, but rivalry and tournaments most certainly aren’t. Time to exemplify why Twos are so greatly feared.

Another event, another outfit, carefully composed in the changing room where other athletes stretch and chat to each other. I myself remain silent as I adjust the District Two uniform until it matches my personal idea of style. The chrome cast of my prosthetic leg is viciously polished, fitted at the bottom with a springy hook to give me extra jump in the tournament I am about to compete in. I assume that some other competitors might have already complained  about an unfair advantage I have over them, which is laughable. For a start, I know they're nothing but jealous, and will blame my athletic ability on my special condition (not a disability but a superability). The more important thing to remember, however, is that the figures who comprise the Olympic committee aren't looking for a fair game. They're just looking for a show.

Under my organic foot, the sandy layer covering the court is easy to assess. I can calculate the angles I should move at to gain the best footing and reach the highest jumps as easily as I can predict the motion of a pendulum, something I have practised obsessively since my accident. My teammate stands somewhere behind me; I don't know who they are but it matters little to me. I'm the showstealer here. They're simply my backup, my second-in-command. I glare at my rivals from across the net, shooting fire at them and baring my teeth. My senses are fine-tuned, I am a machine, designed and programmed to win. I wait for the ball to fly towards me, and ready myself to strike.

Getting a rude awakening never is a great way to start off a morning. My parents woke me up, half screaming, half not screaming at me to wake up. They said how I signed up for the Olympics here. I had no recollection of signing anything recently. No matter what I said, they didn't care. They pushed me out the door, telling me I'd be late for the volleyball I had. I didn't even realize I knew I played

It's whatever. I made it on time. It took me forever to find the courts, but I made it. I got teamed up with someone else from District 4 that I've never seen before. "I'm really sorry if I mess things up for us. I don't know why I'm here. I don't think I'm supposed to be here. DOn't remember signing up for this." I head over to the court I'm playing at, and get ready to play. Might as well try my best, even if I don't know what's going on.
