I stick my fingers into the paint smeared across my uniform and hold it up to inspect it. Red like blood. I take my children's hands and boop their noses with the paint, marking them with little red noses.

I do the same to my own.


Now we match, like a family.

Louise looks annoyed and tired. I don't blame her, she's footless. It looks serious. I hope dad can fix it. It might take all the ice cream and all the eggos in the world, but that doesn't matter. She's my sister. We're friends, a family, a team.

There's a pretty girl shouting at everyone. Pretty, I think. And then all of a sudden, she strikes down the round-faced girl with brown hair. Bitchin'.

"Pretty bitchin'," I say aloud, not really sure if anyone is listening. 

And I'm feeling pretty bitchin' too.

When the blonde boy attacks Louise, I get angrier but - the ginger girl has her life cut short and I'm not going to stay here. There is ice cream to find. And eggos.

Her blade scrapes the arm of the man that used to be her son, but it is not he that falls.

She feels it, as acutely as she knows he does. She's gone. And for a moment,Ben - no, Kylo - is forgotten.

Her killer is a striking woman, intimidating with her war hammer and regalia alike.

But she killed Rey.

Revenge was not the Jedi way, of that she knew. And though she was no Jedi, those would be teachings she would hold to, at least for the time being.

Rey was gone. Fallen to the ground around them. She was strong in her magic and would have been a Ravenclaw. Or maybe a Gryffindor. The girl was brave. Braver than Hermione ever could be. But there was no time to mourn the dead. Sansa was dead too. Her alliance was crumbling and all Hermione had was a wooden weapon that was acting like it had been cursed.

There she goes, at peace. It’s almost like I can feel her still. How lovely. I wonder how I can put those feelings of quiet solemnity and grace into painted word. It will be tough to capture, surely, but I can try. We can all try, and we all should. Trying is the only way you get to succeeding. It’s all up to you, my friend.

So many fall, including Kaiden. I’ll have to paint for him too. Diana still stands. We can support each other. That’s what friends are for, everyone. They help pick you up when you’re low.

But I do not put my light saber away. It rattles loudly, wailing its own eulogy. I drop the face of my helmet to disguise my reddened eyes. And then I pick up the bodies of my fallen allies, one over each shoulder, and look to the blonde youth - a mirror of myself.

"Lead the way and I will watch your back."

Something went wrong. The general seemed off somehow, but Draco didn’t want to ask why. There were quite a few dead bodies nearby – maybe she knew one of them? The only person he recognized was Granger, and she didn’t look too pleased by the outcome of this battle either.

He held his wand tightly, scanning the area for more threats. He was pale and breathing heavily, body still in fight or flight. The masked one approached him with some of the bodies over his shoulder. “Lead the way and I will watch your back,” he said.

Draco looked to the General. The one muggle boy had died days ago, so they could always use a new group.

“Let’s just go.”

Draco didn’t protest anyone who followed.
