When I was a young'en, my mother always told me to never back stab anyone. For with it comes a great deal of consequences. And in this case, that could result in someone else's, or even mine, being lost. This is why I take betrayal so seriously, this is why picking these things called alliances are so hard for me, because I know it's life or death. Someone trustworthy, someone strong, someone that needs the same thing as me. I believe that my newly found friend, if that's what you wish to call him, seemed to be not as bad as I thought he was, and I no longer wished him to be dead, in fact, the thought of it saddened me. Not to the point of crying, or tearing up, but just a small jolt of guilt in my stomach.
As I pulled the string back that held the arrow, I had just realized just how many people had arrived since I had. I was the third one here, and now, nearly everyone that would compete in the Games with me, was too, all 24 children. They all seemed to be younger than me, with me being 17, and that did nothing but make me feel even more guilty for wanting them to die. There were the two groups that had formed throughout the Training Center, two groups of Careers. It was the one that had the Female Tribute from District 12 in it that caught my eye first. Clearly the youngest of the group, and clearly didn't belong there. There was the Male Volunteer from District 4, the one that carried himself like a brat, the one that I didn't care if he died or not, because it wouldn't affect me one bit, and then there was Drusilla. The one that didn't like to be called Drusilla, Dru rather. The one that seemed to be hitting on, Shanks? That was his name, right? Shanks? I could care less, as I wished he were dead anyway. Then, there was him. The Tribute from District 6, the one with the munched up face and green eyes whom I didn't like. In fact, I liked none of the people in that group, none at all, even though I was more lenient towards the District 12 girl, as it was obvious that she had suffered before, just as I had. It could've been that, or it could've been the fact that she was 12, obviously.
It was then that I saw the new Tribute walk his way through double doors, and into the Training Center, where he sat and created a fire. Seems to be a popular station, I think to myself. After creating a near perfect fire, I see him traveling over to the Archery station, where I stand. And to not seem like I was staring at him, I pull my string back for the second time and aim at the target. Laura had always told me to aim the tip to where you want it to hit, and that's exactly what I did now. I aimed the tip straight towards the center of the target, towards the red dot, except I aimed a little high, just in case it happened to drop a little while flying. I let go, and it does exactly what it was meant to do. It lands right in the center, and I immediately find the eyes locked on me. I let out a small chuckle and let the bow hang loose at my sides. "Even I wasn't expecting that."
Maybe this will help me get those things I was needing. What were they called again? Oh yes.
Allies.
