The Halfinger’s Horse Ranch spans across hundreds of acres in District Ten. Their ranch is unique as it holds equines of different shapes, sizes and uses. Many are rescued from unfortunate lives, while most are born and bred on the ranch. Right now, the ranch is about to go into overspill due to how many different mouths it is having to feed. So, the family pounced at the opportunity to hold an auction during The County Fair to free some stables and pasture space.

Do you want to add the perfect companion to your household? Or maybe even something that will pull a heavy load? Or even something to throw the kids on top of in hopes that they do not get catapulted into space? Then this is the perfect auction for you! Because who doesn’t want to own a bicycle that has a mind of its own!

Welcome to the horse auction! Today there will be six lots of horses, of all different shapes, sizes and uses. Each lot will come out one by one and the highest bidder takes it home! Simple as that.

The lots are as follows:
Lot One – Panem Quarter Horse Stallion
Lot Two – Thoroughbred Gelding
Lot Three –Shetland Pony Mare
Lot Four – Appaloosa Stallion
Lot Five - Shire Horse Mare
Lot Six – Donkey Jack

OOC Rules
- I will post each lot every 48 hours. Whoever has the highest bid at the 48th hour wins the animal.
- Each equine will have a reserved price. You will roll a dice that starts just above this reserved price and it will determine how high a bid your character makes. For timeliness, you will only be able to place one bid unlike the back and forth in real life.
- You can add the number that you roll to one other person’s dice roll and place that as your bid. This can be a family member or friend, but it can only be ONE other person.
- If you are adding your bid to someone else’s you MUST make it clear in your post (add their name etc).
- A minimum of a blitz length post must be included with your dice to make it valid.
- I will post an add of each lot and you will have 48 hours from that post to place your bid. With there being six lots, this will likely go on until the end of the county fair.
- The dice you must roll will be included in the lot post and will vary with each equine depending on their reserved price.
- This is just IC fun. Do what you wish with your animal. It may live for two decades and be a much beloved pet. Or it may be a menace to society that has claimed many children's lives.

The first lot is a frisky one, it is keeping Morgan on her toes as she leads it towards the auction’s ring. The Halfinger Ranch will be glad to see the back of this one. A chain attached to the piece of metal in the stallion’s mouth is all that is stopping the animal from dragging the poor petite woman across the count fair event’s field. As soon as they both enter the ring, the chestnut flicks its back end up into the air, performing a spectacular buck and acrobatic move.

Morgan tugs at its mouth, trying to lure the stallion’s attention to herself. She regrets not getting one of the guys to lead this one around, though he will be nothing compared to the third lot of the day. She will definitely be getting two handlers for that mini beast.

Leah loved the horse she already had, of course. How could she not? Apple had been with her for about half her life, after all. The thing is, Apple never really had any other horses around her aside from Cara's horse, Jesse. It was about time she gained a new friend.

So, that's why Leah was here today, at the horse auction. She wanted to get a friend for Apple. When the first horse was brought out, her face lit up with a shining joy. Leah had always loved horses, and every single one that she ever met, she loved. Now was time to try to bring another one home.

Hearing of a horse auction makes him wonder if he can even afford one. Of course, it's all up to chance. If he places a bid, Jed knows there's a chance he won't actually get one. A horse would make it easier to get around, plus it offers a wonderful companionship Jed desires. Not many people actually understand him, but animals are different. He stands in front of the stables hoping to find the right one. Truth be told, any horse is the right horse. Any horse that is willing to be his friend in the time of need will make all the difference. Jed looks at his feet then looks up. It doesn't hurt to try.

Harbinger Rhodes

I only came to District Ten because some of my children wanted to go, and they needed a guardian to look after them. Now that I'm here, I want a horse. I only want one because I see this auction going on. Not for myself, but for my kids. It'll give them something to look after, and I hope it'll prepare them for the future. It's my hope that having a companion will give them some sort of responsibility as they get older and prepare to enter the real world. At the same time, I don't know what to really expect. This one right now is very beautiful, and I think it would make a good addition to my home.

CONGRATULATIONS TO HARBINGER RHODES FOR WINNING LOT ONE - THE PANEM QUARTER HORSE STALLION!

It is a shame that the second lot is at the auction today, he is one of Morgan’s favourites. Sometimes he can be an eventful ride and loves a good spook, but he is generally such a sweetheart to be around which is why the reserve price is so high. Morgan would have donated him to the horse racing event with the speed and stamina the gelding has proven to have but it would have been such a waste with the value the horse has.

Lot Two is a much easier one for Morgan to lead around the auction ring, his ears a pricked forward and there is a slight prance in every stride the small horse takes. He is certainly small in stature but packs a big heart. It is just a shame that he scared of literally everything and anything new so good luck to the winning bidder of this one.

Colonus Mica

Mr. Mica's son Boves had ridden horses his whole life, yet never had one of his own. Therefore, Colonus decided that now was his opportunity to change that- by getting Boves a horse. Rather than having to keep riding other people's horses, Boves could have his own to ride and care for. It would teach him a sense of responsibility, too. It was the perfect idea.

Boves wasn't here with him, but when Colonus heard about the horse auction, he asked his wife to watch their son so that he could go and try to get one of the horses. He was given a firm budget, and although he would try to stick to it, he was going to do his damndest to try to get his son a horse.

The first horse they brought out, Col didn't bid on. He was going to, but as soon as he saw that a victor was betting on it, he decided he'd best not. Victors had a lot of money: far more money than the Mica family.

The next horse came out and was apparently a racing and riding horse meant for the experienced, which, Colonus felt, fit the category that Boves fell into.

Rhys

His eyes light up as he looks at every single horse on the ranch wondering how people can even afford them. Rhys wants one. He wants to bring one home. Not that it offers much, but it's a means of transportation. The horse can become his friend. It can help him in need. It can give him something to do when he's bored. He doesn't have much, and maybe his brother will appreciate the horse just as much as he does. He waits for a horse he wants, of course any would do, but this one in particular has caught his attention. A huge smile spreads across his face, and he isn't even sure if he'll be able to bring it home, but Rhys wants to try.

CONGRATULATIONS TO COLONUS MICA FOR WINNING LOT TWO - THE THOROUGHBRED GELDING!

Lot three is a contrast to the first two for Morgan to lead around. The rope dangles below her waist but the devil in disguise cannot be compared to walking a dog. Despite being so small, the mare pulls hard against the halter that the rope is attached too. Morgan is not sure how this one ended up at the ranch, it is probably the smallest animal she has and that is saying something because there are dogs on the ranch too!

The reserve price is low on this one, the mare is stock that needs to go. The ad says that it will be a perfect kid’s pony, with a lot of patience and persuasion she may well be. A victor walked away with the first lot of the day, maybe a victor spawn will be lucky enough to learn to ride on this beast.

Sawyer

The horses fascinate him in a way Sawyer can't explain. Maybe it's because he's never seen anything like them before, but he doesn't really know why. For the last several hours he's stood at the ranch listening to the auction, and watching the horses go to different people. He wants one, yet getting it back to district nine and giving it a chance to live and survive doesn't seem too feasible. Sawyer would figure something out if it comes down to it. He's been in tough situations before, and he's made the best of it. This is no different. Having a companion to help him get through those difficult situations is something he desires. Of course, he might just do this for fun since it's easier that way.

Quinn has wanted a lot of things in her life, but never up until this moment has she wanted anything more than she wants that silly little shetland pony.

Until she finds the BBQ ribs stand in half an hour's time, of course.

"Not good with children - well, good thing I'm a teenager!"

"Barely," Kiara mutters and Quinn scoffs, elbowing her cousin in the side.

"Keeks," she frowns, turning her head to look up at Kiara as she throws her hand in the air, "has anyone ever told you that you're kind of a down-buzz?"

"Many a time," Kiara replies, craning her neck to look for Enzo and be dismissed from babysitting duties.

"I'M BIDDING!" Quinn announces, fist full of her remaining week's money flung about above her head and not a care in the world for the consequences if she brings home a pony after the sun goes down. Her Dad loves horses, after all. He won't be mad. A little one ain't gonna take up much more space in the field with her Pa's stallion in the back.

"I'M BIDDING-" oh no.

That can't be good.

It's like a 6th sense, maybe because I'm a babysitter raised by a babysitter but I got this intuition for whenever the district kids are gonna cause some trouble - Quinn, specifically. Man, I swear I wasn't this much of a handful! Even when Rogue & I were at our worse in the Pound we never had this many adults circlin' around us; hell, I don't think we even had one. Even Piper, Marley & I would go missin' for hours, we never raised this much concern. 

And so I'm over here right, trading spots with Keeks so I can buy a corndog, next thing I know my sis's got cash out for a pony I didn't even know she'd be interested in. First of all, who gave this lil girl cash? Second of all, "hey! Hey, hey, Quinn-!" The corndog bit is hot in my mouth but I'm bouncin' over trying to save this girl's afternoon, I wave to the boy she's betting against as I get over. 

Woof, maybe I should let her lose. Teach her a thing or two. 

But I read the room, and even I can tell this girl ain't bettin' right. 

"You gotta at least match the higher offer, Quinn!" Lowerin' my voice into her ear, trying not to embarrass her while I pull out a bit from my own wallet. I whistle before the timers up, "Ms. Halfinger! Add this to Quinn's for me, if you will," and if someone else out bids, so be it. 

Gotta give it a try, at least, else Quinn'll cry for a day before she forgets.

CONGRATULATIONS TO QUINN AND LORENZO EMBERSTATT FOR WINNING LOT THREE- THE SHETLAND PONY MARE!

It is a miracle that the fourth lot is walking sound today. The poor old soul has been on and off lame for awhile now unless he is kept in constant work and Morgan Halfinger just does not have the job for the horse. The appaloosa is an honest horse, despite being a stallion he shows no friskiness like the first lot. Harbinger Rhodes should have really held his breathe for this one. Morgan just hopes the ageing horse ends up in good hands and wished her father had put a higher reserve price on him to ensure that.

The spotted stallion has his ears pricked and every stride is a smooth one, a relief for Morgan as she has spent hours cold hosing each leg to ensure there was no swelling. He is the easiest horse to lead around the auction ring today and hopefully his spots and movements will catch the eye of an honest bidder.

I was surprised I actually managed to get my parents to agree to give me some money for a horse. It was a lot of begging on my end and a lot of talking about what we can and can't afford from my parents. But then, a ray of hope! They began talking about how if the horse can work on the farm, it would pay for itself! Yes! That just meant I had to find the right horse. I had some experience with horses living out here. And maybe my parents would let me take care of whatever horse I bought full time instead of the chickens - I doubted it but it's nice to dream.

I was waiting towards the back of the crowd for the opportunity to strike. I watched as horse after horse went by, but none of them seemed to fit. I saw Quinn bid and almost went over to say hi, until her brother chimed in. I already embarrassed myself meeting her mom during the fair, I didn't need to meet her brother too. Plus, she had probably avoided introducing me to her family for a reason. I didn't want to ruin whatever she felt she was protecting by keeping me away from them. Plus, didn't her family own horses already? Why did they need a pony too?

Seeing them almost made me leave, but then, I saw the next horse. And by Silksharp, it was perfect! It was a beautiful horse. The spots, the mane, all of it. He was a beautiful horse, but he was also a hard worker from the look of it. Pepperwood farms would be an amazing home for a guy like that. But wow, that reserve price! I counted up the money my parents gave me, wanting to be the first bidder. Maybe if I seemed excited enough they'd just kinda give me him, but I doubted it. Part of me wished I could run home and dig some money out of my secret stash, but I doubted I'd have time. And if I wasn't careful Sammy or Larry or Harmon would see me running to my secret money. Then it wouldn't be secret

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALEX PEPPERWOOD FOR WINNING LOT FOUR - THE APPALOOSA STALLION!

Morgan’s brother is taking his time braiding the shire horse and shining her white socks. She was meant to be in the ring by now and the auctioneer looks frustrated. There have been a few whispers on when a donkey will be entering a ring, well it is going to really mess with people’s minds when according to the catalogue a gigantic shire horse is meant to be in but all they see is a floppy eared donkey. Morgan has a few donkeys on the ranch, they are good work animals for all those that have land but there are so many, which is why this one’s starting price is so cheap.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the donkey that Morgan leads around the ring. Its head is low and its ears twitch, but it barely reacts to the busy environment. Of all the lots so far, Morgan thinks this one will be a competitive round.
