I needed to be on people's good sides. So far, I was doing a good job with that. I was pretty sure Aurora and I were getting along. That girl Sinead had no clue that I gave less than a fuck about her. And Arthur - well that could have gone better. But none of those people were the real threat. The real threat were the careers. They seemed to be hanging together, forming a pack. Not unexpected, but a challenge to deal with nonetheless. In the fight that Six died in, Love Bellisario completely ignored him because they got along. If I was going to win, I needed careers on my side.
I couldn't approach the whole pack at once, maybe if I was from an upper district, but being from Eleven? I felt like I had volunteering going for me, but that was about it. Especially after the pathetic show my cousin put on last year. Apologising for attacking someone in the god damn Hunger Games. That's the whole point. Part of me wished I had volunteered last year. I could have saved Six and Prop both. But, it was too late to turn back time now.
Luckily, Anarchy Mer, also known as "Arc" was by himself during lunch for once. Score. Approaching them one at a time seemed like a safer method. I quickly grabbed my food and made my way over the table. I needed to be confident, needed to act like we were equals. How was he ever going to respect me if I showed no self-respect? That was something Cain taught me when you were younger. If you don't respect yourself, neither will anyone else. I sat down, not bothering to ask permission, but still greeting him. I hoped I wasn't making a mistake in deciding to approach him.
"Hey, Arc right?"
