The morning had an electric charge. He could feel it pulsing beneath his feet, reverberating off the walls, charging the air. He could taste the excitement, and he wouldn't lie: the urge to go out there right now and face them all, the crowd of little beetles toting their cameras and microphones around assembling outside Lochlan Creations, he stayed in his office. He made them wait, just a while, and called it his revenge.
Plus, he had business to attend to.
Normally, any involvement Hades had with the Games was largely mutt related. Right? That's why they wanted him: he could do practically anything with some spliced DNA and a burst of creativity. And his mutts had solidified his place in history, which in turn built up a very, very steep expectation from him. Here's the catch: being a head gamemaker and a member of the high council meant spending roughly 90% of his time doing things other than designing mutts. His impulse was first to contact Petelia, but then he remembered that she'd taken some pathetic job hosting a teen romance reality show, and he wasn't interested in ruining his career alongside her while she ruined her own.
The issue is that basically all of the options on the table sucked. He would know. He'd out paced all of them already. So he started looking elsewhere. The medical field which had made hugely innovative leaps over the past several decades, lacked the stomach. The normal scientific community was too ambitious and already notorious for creating things they couldn't control and as far as Hades was concerned, control was the most important thing.
And then he stumbled upon Saber Bancroft's file. No experience in creation, years of experience in animal psychology and handling. Worked as an intern for Starfyre, which could've as easily been a problem as it could've been a benefit, but Hades had decided to give the guy a chance. After all, if Beatrix hadn't given Hades a chance in the 81st, he probably wouldn't be where he was. Well, at least not yet.
"First meeting of the day," he said, sorting through the papers on his desk before he finally looked up to match the other man's gaze, "Things have been pretty hectic since the announcement earlier, as you can imagine."
He shook Saber's hand and motioned for the seat across his desk.
"I requested this meeting with you because, frankly, I need another me to help run mutts, and unfortunately that doesn't exist."
He absentmindedly tapped a pen onto the surface of his desk. Creation, transport, maintenance, and if he was good enough, Hades might even let him control a few of them. If he was good enough.
"Yet."
