The bloodbath brought me adrenaline in my own Games, but for some reason, it brought me anxiety for Parker and Talon. I really hadn't spent much time trying to connect with them before the Games, but for some reason, I still cared about them, at least a little bit. I suppose it might've been a good thing I didn't go for connection prior to the Games. My approach was to treat them like careers, whether or not they were careers. I had decided to treat them as if they wanted to be here, even if that wasn't the case.
I figured it'd prevent me from getting attached, but I was wrong.
When the countdown started, I found myself leaned forward, eyes focused on the television and straining to find exactly where they were when the gong sounded. When it did, I watched the fights start to unfold.
Parker and Talon both started out by striking Isaac, before Isaac got the first kill. I was just relieved that it wasn't either of them.
The first tribute to fall was one of the tributes from Three. Sierra Bordeuax collapsed to a blow from Isaac Le Roux: I suppose I should've expected something like that. The boy from One was strong, and I shouldn't have been surprised that he was the first to get a kill.
I didn't know why I was so set on getting one of these two to survive, even when I knew it probably wouldn't happen. Having a victor from the same District two years in a row rarely happened. Sure, it'd happened before, but it wasn't the most common thing by a longshot.
As I watched and tributes fought one another, my fists were anxiously clenched. Another tribute fell, and this time, Four was one up. Celeste Brere's skull was crushed by Parker. I stood up from my seat, adrenaline now pumping through my veins.
This was good, right?
It had to be.

They both ended up getting out of the bloodbath with their lives, to my relief.
Why was I letting myself get so caught up in whether these two tributes lived or died?
