Nixie's triumph in the Eighty-Ninth Hunger Games just goes to show that what this District needed was another victor. Some may say that since we've had more than one in the last decade, it wasn't really necessary, but I think that victorship brings District Four together like nothing else, and that was something I was determined to show the people I lived among.
"District Four," I began as I took the microphone in hand. "Thank you all for being here. My name is Nerida Summers. I'm sure you all have heard of my daughter, Nixie, a recent victor of ours here in Four."
I give a friendly smile and wave back to a young man in the back of the crowd who waved at me with a look of excitement on his face. I'd become a bit of an accidental celebrity when Nixie won, which was a bit strange, but I wasn't going to turn it down.
"Now, I'd love for our home of District Four to turn out more victors, and I think the best way for us to do that is to strengthen ourselves, physically as people, as well as emotionally, as individuals and together as a community. My first step in that direction would be to open more training centers for the aspiring careers in our District. I would employ even more trainers for those learning, making sure that they're qualified to teach them everything that they need to learn. I want to strive to turn out top tier careers."
I pause for a moment and gauge the crowd's reaction before I continue.
"Now, aside from just career tribute strength, of course, we want strength of ourselves. I want to empower the people of our District: especially young people who may feel overlooked. I want to show young people that they can do anything they set their mind to. So, I want to start seminars for those who want to learn the ins and outs of business and perhaps give them the opportunity to start their own. I especially want to teach young woman in particular that they are not restricted to what society says they should do with their lives. You should strive for whatever it is you want in life: whatever you put your mind to."
I knew my time was running short, so I needed to start wrapping things up.
"I'd also like to introduce more activities for the community, whether they be big communal events like fairs or competitions, or even things such as fundraisers. All in all, I want to bring us all together, and strengthen us all so that we can show Panem that District Four is not to be overlooked."
I look out at the crowd with passion for the words I'm saying ever-present in the expression on my face.
"So, I want to thank you all once again for being here. Keep Four strong!"
