Chant Bellami
District Ten Male Tribute
Seventh Hunger Games - Interview
"Please, introduce yourself to the people," the interviewer told me. I nodded and looked out to the crowd that was gathered there.
"Chant Bellami," I said simply. I wasn't too excited to be getting put on display for these people, so I'd be keeping my answers short, sweet and to the point. I turned back to look at the man seated across from me, awaiting his questions that I was certain he had for me.
"Alright, Chant," he nodded. "What's life like back home for you? What do you do for fun? Got any family you'd like to mention?"
Admittedly, I didn't want to answer the latter part of the question. Ideally, I would avoid bringing my family into the spotlight at all costs, but that couldn't be entirely avoided, I supposed. I'd introduced himself as a Bellami, after all, and District Ten wouldn't take long to figure out who my family was. There were a lot of people in my family, after all. My parents didn't seem to want to stop having kids.
So, I paused a moment, but then decided to give a decent answer: nothing too detailed, but not too painfully vague, either. I wasn't going to just completely dodge a portion of the question. That might not look too good for me.
"I spend a lot of time playing music," I told him. "Guitar, mostly. I do some singing, too."
The interviewer nodded again, this time with a slight smile upon his face.
"I spend a lot of time with my family, too. We're all really close with each other."
I hoped that was sufficient enough for him. I had mentioned I was close with my family. Surely he didn't need too many details, right?
"Very nice," he told me with a broader smile this time. "Would it be safe to say that they'll be rooting for you out there in that arena later, then?"
Immediately, I nodded.
"Of course," I confirmed. "My family is always rooting for each other."
There was a chorus of 'awww' from the audience, as they must've found my response sweet sounding. I suppose it was, in a way. I just hadn't thought about that at first.
"That's quite sweet!" he said cheerfully. "So, what's your plan out there to make sure you make your family proud?"
He wanted to know my plan? Was there a chance of the other tributes seeing this? I didn't want them to know exactly what I was planning on doing. I supposed I just had to simplify it, then.
"I'll be showing my strength in the best ways that I can," I simply responded.
"We can't wait to see it!" he exclaimed. "We hope that you can impress us all!"
It seemed that the interviewer was wrapping up the interview a bit more quickly that he normally would have, from what I could tell. Perhaps I wasn't as interesting as he had hoped I would be, or he simply ran out of ideas for questions to ask me based on my responses. Regardless, he started to wrap things up.
"It was a pleasure meeting you, Chant Bellami, and I'd like to personally wish you the best of luck!" his voice boomed.
"Thank you," I said simply.
I was then gently guided off the stage.
