There's a pen for your scepter and a mouth for your sword. It has been a tedious process of sun-beat days and nights of eagerness and self-doubt masked by a confident face and a cigarette. But you're here: the mayor of District Ten. Elio was surprised to see the results. Maybe he shouldn't have been so wary of his empire making a grab for power. Your uncle has had you in his back pocket for decades, waiting to show off his gold card, yet you revealed it to District Ten for him. Perhaps he'll quit biting his nails and relax for a beat and let the young guns take charge.
You have your own desk now which is somewhat of a change. Everyone who was anyone in Elio's group would take a seat and share the table. It is daunting for you, these dual objectives of being both a shot-caller for the entirety of the District and your other operations. There's money and influence to be earned in this chair. It's been about four hours, but you're already thinking five years down the line: where do you want to be and how do you maintain this high to propel you again?
A list of high-up members of District Ten's community lies sprawled out on your table. Charisma, a promise of ideas and change, and perhaps some anarchy, got you here. Your knowledge of how exactly to execute these plans without collapsing an entire social dynamic between district and Capitol, however, is slim. The title of a politician suits you. Just talk a lot of good shit about yourself and bad shit about your opponent. Then, all that's left to do is make promises and hope you'll be able to act on them or make it look like you are. You can't always do that alone.
Looking page after page, you try to find the help. Law enforcement, cultural experts, transport enthusiasts. Big names headline the docket, but there are plenty of smaller known ones that you could use to get an in within the niche areas of District Ten. What better way to get into peoples' pockets than giving them so many consumable goods that they just can't pass it up?
Damaris, your favorite trickster, and saboteur, is one of the names you mark as noteworthy immediately. Having insiders in your cabinet promises that the mayor will have some voices to back himself up. There are a few others who were helpful in your campaigning efforts that may be worthy of receiving a promotion of sorts. Yury Catastrophe's got your protection now, so maybe he'll come out of hiding and do some high-up work for you.
One hand scratches at your scruff while the other scribbles down additional names. With each name you write down, another envelope is set to the side. "Hey, Rally!" you yell, snapping your fingers a couple of times to get his attention even more. You hear one door after another open and shut until he's standing before you at the desk. You hand him the notepad of names, the stack of envelopes, and the press for District Ten's official seal. "I want meetings with all these people. You and the folks need to get all these invitations out by tomorrow evening." Rally nods, telling you that he'll make sure each of the envelopes is filled and sent out. "And get some responses, if you can! I've got a tight schedule already."
Kicking your feet up at the desk, you shut your eyes while Rally heads out. One day in and you're already learning the power of delegation. Power is just better when you take all of the credit and all of the perks.
