91st - Day 2 Anthem

The twilight approaches so gently, soft hues of lavender and indigo, you almost don’t notice the sun dipping behind the Dragon Tooth Mountains. It slips away stealthily but you know it will return with a vengeance, come morning. You start to wonder if it’s the only thing that has a vendetta in this arena. And then you remember the three souls lost to the Bloodbath, just as the stars part to reveal the first anthem:

Surely the Gamemakers are pleased with having two entire districts eliminated before the first night. As the anthem music fades, a gentle breeze whirls around the arena. Outside the tavern it’s a chilly night; inside the fire is cheery. But there’s not space for everyone at the slime’s inn, and there’s only room for one of you on the train home. Nineteen dead, eighteen to go…

Congrats on surviving Day One!

It’s early - far too early for most teenagers - the next morning when the arena begins to stir. There’s hardly any difference between the night and the dawn as most of the arena is covered in fog. The only part that escapes is the upper reaches of the Dragon Tooth Mountains, which are bathed in glorious sunlight. As each of you struggle to your feet, you’ll discover - tucked into a pocket, or rolling off the tip of your boot, or perhaps somehow clenched in your fist - a glass die. You hardly have time to inspect it before the day’s bloody work has begun.
