[Handwritten letter. Invisible ink on parchment, 8x5, with coordinates marked on a crudely-drawn map.]
It is known throughout all districts that knowledge in Panem is fortified, kept under a thick layer of propaganda, and only ever shared or taught at their whims. No literary work escapes censor; no book is left unchecked for hearsay. They hoard knowledge and keep all of its wondrous secrets for themselves.
And no longer, we say. History calls us to arms and we answer it with heart and soul. Knowledge is universal, knowledge is unbridled, knowledge is the very virtue that made the societies before ours: there to be shared like bread and wine, there to be passed on for many and many to come. We seek a Panem where knowledge cascades as freely as water and rebuke its captivity.
Those who destroy knowledge, with ink, fire, or sword, shall themselves be destroyed.

— The Keeper Of Tomes.
Loosely on the Candlekeep in D&D, welcome to the librarian and archivist plot, full of lore that can be as esoteric as your heart desires and adventures that revolve around unearthing old texts/lost history! Compelled by the pursuit of knowledge, Candlekeep is a shadow society of rebels and vagrants that gather and archive knowledge through both paper and word of mouth.
This is less a plot that revolves around a few cast of characters and more a regional underground organization with agents and acolytes in every district, working collectively towards the pursuit of abandoned knowledge under the Capitol's nose. Every character from every district is welcome to become a member of Candlekeep, if they can brave the consequences. The intent of the plot shall be to expand old Panem lore, flesh out old families that became lost of the annals of time, but also to have fun with the concept of swashbuckling, gun-slinging librarian teenagers who are on the search for old tomes and learn all they can.
The past reaches out. And sometimes, somewhere it is heard, and understood.
The highest-ranked member of the order, there to appoint those believed well-suited to take on the cause and the roles within Candlekeep. Little to none is known about the Keeper as they spread word only through carefully sent letters and ciphers, but there are stories that speculate them of being a venerated rebel soldier.
Second to The Keeper of Tomes, the First Reader’s task is to obtain new books, scrolls, and other pieces to add to the order’s collection. In addition to this, they seek out others who express interest in and share similar ideologies with Candlekeep. And, if necessary, they also provide security and ammunition. After all, a librarian has to defend themselves and their repository from time to time.
Eight learned sages and scholars who each were deemed to be the premier authority in their selected pillars of study and research. The eight pillars of study are as following:
(1) Art (2) Technology (3) Medicine (4) Story (5) Song (6) Culture (7) Science (8) Landscape.
Both liberated and burdened by great knowledge, the enlightened are those who have abandoned everything they know for Candlekeep’s cause. They cross districts and recruit others, and the law may regard them as plainly as wanderers. The enlightened know the life they have chosen, and the dangers fraught within it.
If the Avox are those who cannot speak freely, then the Avow are the ones who speak for them. All members of Candlekeep are called the Avow, and to be one is to dedicate oneself to the pursuit of knowledge and the banishment of those who wish to keep it for themselves.
To sign-up for the plot, you can either create a new character or simply use a pre-existing one! Fill out the form below to expand.
Note: The Keeper of Tomes will remain as an NPC.
