At Dusk, as at Dawn ] 1st alliance at the Gothic Castle

[this RE will be revealed when the first alliance enters the Gothic Castle, however this random event is open to any and all tributes within the area if the triggering alliance do not solve one or both of the riddles]
In the Castle's foyer, two statues tower above all else. Sisters standing back to back, a plaque at either's feet.
The first, head held high and bathed in golden light reads: 09162014 21:26
In her hands, she grasps a Bladed Shield: [this weapon uses a knife roll. however, once per games day a tribute may choose to forgo an attack in favor of negating the last attack on them. tribute will not be able to block an insta - considered broken at top 8]
The second, her features obscured by a silvery mask, seems to weep into her hands. Her plaque reads:If I am big enough, spiders make their home in me.
If I am small enough, I turn white.
I am the language spoken by the powerful to the powerless,
so they may sleep at night.
Left undiscovered, I'm a powerful ally
Though you'll find I'm hard to keep
Use me as a tool and more likely than not,
You'll find a knife in your back when you sleep.
What am I?
Clutched within her cupped palms is a Bladed Boomerang; [This weapon's attack roll is a throwing knife, and ignores all 'knife lost' rolls. Once per day, when a 'miss, knife lost' attack is rolled, the tribute instead gains an additional accuracy roll - considered broken at top 8]
[each alliance is allowed four guesses before they are considered locked out of a riddle, this applies to alliances with only one tribute in them.
the weapon is only considered unlocked when the correct answer is sent to the gms.
if an alliance only gets one riddle right, they only unlock one weapon and another alliance may try to solve the second]
