Stealing is one of the only ways to provide for her family, and so many times it's still never enough. It's hard living in poverty in a world where nobody cares, but at least she's not alone. A lot of her time is spent roaming the streets through the night digging through garbage cans trying to find food someone else has thrown out. Most of her luck comes from the trash next to the different bakeries, and even then, Zaina has to get there before the garbage is taken away, and sometimes, she has to make sure she's the first one there.

It's taken a lot of work, however, Zaina figured out the perfect timing. Of course, it's never easy because others have figured it out as well, and she never wants to split the load with them. At least there's more than one garbage can to go through, and several nights, she's witnessed others going through them as well. It's heartbreaking, but people, including Zaina, get desperate sometimes.

But her siblings still go to sleep hungry. Not that they complain because they know it'll never do any good. Ma and pa work for the bare minimum. Ma sells goods, and that's when Zaina took up sewing and hemming. It's something easy, and even if it doesn't bring in a lot of money, it gives her things to trade at the markets when it's time for shopping. A nice sweater can go for a couple loaves of bread. Sewing isn't easy when the fabric is expensive, and it often takes a couple of weeks to make one shirt.

Yet hope never leaves her, and it courses through her as she forces a smile across her face, but with hope comes a reality she may never face.
